Keeping secrets is never a good way to start a relationship

Theo hardly has time to date. Between work and caring for his four-year-old son there aren’t many hours left over. He’s lonely though, so he joins a hook-up app and starts chatting to a guy called Luke. Luke seems friendly and they arrange to meet. Theo doesn’t mention that he has a child. It’s early days and he’s worried about putting Luke off before they get to know each other.

Luke is currently working as Santa at the local shopping mall. He figures Theo never has to know. Christmas will be over soon and Luke will move on to a new, less embarrassing job. He’s surprised when Theo and a little boy visit Santa one afternoon. Theo doesn’t recognise Luke, and Luke realises he’s not the only one with a secret.

Despite misgivings on both sides, they start dating, and the chemistry is amazing. But as Christmas approaches their secrets pile up like colourful packages under the tree. If they’re not careful, they’ll lose the best gift of all—each other.

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England. He comes from a family of writers, but always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed him by. He spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content.

One day, Jay decided to try and write a short story—just to see if he could—and found it rather addictive. He hasn't stopped writing since.

Jay writes contemporary romance about men who fall in love with other men. Jay has five books published by Dreamspinner Press, and he also self-publishes under the imprint Jaybird Press.

    Darum geht’s:

    Theo chattet über eine Dating-App mit Luke und weil beide sympathisch rüberkommen und nicht nur an schnellem Sex interessiert sind, verabreden sie sich für einen Kaffee. Allerdings behält Theo erst einmal für sich, dass er alleinerziehender Teilzeit-Papa eines vierjährigen Sohnes ist, denn diese Tatsache hat schon andere vielversprechende Kandidaten in die Flucht geschlagen. Da auch Luke nicht ganz ehrlich war und den nicht gerade prestigeträchtigen Job als Weihnachtsmann im Einkaufszentrum verschwiegen hat, wird es verzwickt, als Theo mit Sohn Archie zum Weihnachtsmann ins Einkaufszentrum kommt.

    So fand ich’s:

    Theo und Luke sind zwei nette Männer, die sich gleich gut verstehen und im Idealfall einen festen Partner finden möchten.

    Theo zögert allerdings ein bisschen, denn Luke hat sich abfällig über Kinder geäußert und in Theos Leben spielt sein Sohn Archie eine große Rolle. Die beiden gibt’s nur im Doppelpack. Weil er aber spürt, dass es zwischen ihm und Luke mehr mehr werden könnte, platzt er nicht gleich mit dieser Information heraus.

    Luke schlägt sich mit Kurzzeitjogbs durch und ist nicht gerade stolz darauf. Deshalb erwähnt er seine aktuelle Anstellung als Kaufhaus-Weihnachtsmann nicht. Als Theo mit Sohn Archie bei ihm auftaucht, hat er einen dicken weißen Bart im Gesicht und Theo erkennt ihn nicht. Luke versucht später, geschickt das Gespräch auf Kinder und Familie zu lenken, doch Theo weicht aus und verschweigt seinen Sohn. Das lässt auch Luke ein bisschen auf Abstand gehen.

    Zu dumm, dass Luke und Theo ansonsten total auf einer Wellenlänge sind und sie sich recht schnell auch körperlich näherkommen. Denn keiner will so schnell aufgeben, was sich da anbahnt.

    Wie gewohnt steht auch dieses Mal Jay Northcote für unkomplizierte und positive Unterhaltung, und das bedeutet, dass die kleinen Anfangsschwierigkeiten zwischen Luke und Theo nicht künstlich aufgebauscht werden. Sie sind beide bodenständige Männer, die bedacht und überlegt sind und ziemlich bald auch den Mund auf bekommen. Wie Theo mit Sohn Archie umgeht und das Erziehungsarrangement mit Archis Mutter sind perfekte Beispiele, wie man es handhaben sollte. Archie selbst ist ein zuckersüßes und liebenswertes Kind, das nochmal einen zusätzlichen Niedlichkeitsfaktor mit in die Geschichte bringt. Eigentlich läuft hier alles so glatt, dass es fast schon ein bisschen langweilig ist. Zum Glück bringen Theo und Luke ein bisschen heißen Sex in die Erzählung, und die Chemie zwischen ihnen stimmt auch.

    „Secret Santa“ ist wieder eine wunderbar leichte, positive und sexy Weihnachtsgeschichte von Jay Northcote, die man mit Vergnügen lesen kann.
