Don’t let the sexy cover fool you into thinking this novel is something superficial. No, this book is Tal Bauer at his finest. It is a perfect blend of unique character development, heartachingly emotional romance, and fast paced, adrenaline pumping political thriller. (Yes there are some very sexy open door scenes too— ones that flow absolutely beautifully with the rest of the story.) It is written with a back-and-forth dual timeline where you’re alternating the past, where the main characters are stumbling and inevitably falling head over heels for one another, and the present, where time is ticking to save the president’s life. I wish I had Bauer’s way with words so that I could write a review that does this novel justice, but he is a master at making you feel and your heart to both ache and pound with his characters. This writer makes me believe in love. HEA. (I wish we could see more of Sheridan’s character, to give him his own definitive HEA after all he went though, but the novel does leave it open ended enough that the reader may interpret whatever they’d like.)

Love this couple
Tal Bauer is always great at writing romantic suspense and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved Secret Service Agent Reese Theriot and President Brennan Walker. The alternating POVs was perfect for getting to know each of them, seeing their relationship evolve as well as the details of White House life from their perspectives. My own personal challenge is that I often struggle to connect when authors alternate between past and present, especially in dual POV like this. The pacing lagged a bit at times, hindered by excessive internal exposition. Despite that – this was a great read with a solid mix of worldbulding, suspense, action, and romance. I enjoyed the insight into both men’s minds as well as the inner working ls of the Secret Service. When the President goes missing headed for a clandestine meeting, the distrust is strong. Reese’s investigation is thrilling and emotionally wracking. This is a stand alone, but there’s a part of me that would love for one of the characters to get his own book. I would love to see more of this world.
