A Secret for a Secret (All In Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 12,604 ratings

From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting comes a new romance about trading secrets, breaking the rules, and playing for keeps.

My name is Ryan Kingston, and I’m a rule follower. I’ve never been in a fistfight. I always obey the speed limit. I don’t get drunk, and I definitely don’t pick up random women at bars.

Except the night I found out that my whole existence has been a lie.

I got drunk. And picked up a stranger.

Her name was Queenie, and she was everything I’m not: reckless, impulsive, and chaotic. We did shots and traded secrets. And ended up naked at my place.

She left me a thank-you note in the morning and her panties as a parting gift. But no way to contact her.

Six weeks later I’m sitting in the first official team meeting of the season, and there she is. I neglected to mention that I’m the goalie for Seattle’s NHL team.

And Queenie? Turns out she’s the general manager’s daughter.

Appealing combination of hilarious mishaps, genuine feelings and likeable and relatable characters
It’s quite embarrassing when I keep repeating that I am not really into sports romance and then proceed to read all of Helena Hunting’s hockey romances. I have tried sports romances by other authors, thinking this might be a genre I might enjoy, even though I am rather a member of the nerd faction. But so far nothing grabbed me, so I came to the conclusion that it is really Helena Hunting’s narrative voice, the appealing combination of hilarious mishaps, genuine feelings and likeable and relatable characters that draws me in. Ryan ‘King’ Kingston is not your typical jock; he is a veritable Boy Scout, and not in a derogatory sense, but he just is a genuinely nice and grounded person. Queenie on the other hand is chaos personified, she is beset by self-doubt, feelings of unworthiness and hasn’t found her calling yet. They are perfect for each other, but circumstances and their respective family baggage seem for quite some time to stand in the way of a happy ending. Along the way there are also lots of funny, sweet and embarrasing moments that give the story an overall light-hearted feel. Loved it!

I absolutely 💯 loved this story. I would have never imagined Kingston’s family drama however it’s not an unfamiliar story - just one not typically in books. The start threw me for a loop because Kingston’s character does not do one night stands. Queenie’s utter chaos is cringe 😬 worthy but I absolutely 💯 love them together. Through in sweet River & Lavender and I am all warm and fuzzy.

The next - sounds like it could be Jake & Hannah - but I can wait until Jake’s story is told 😉

“There’s no place I’d rather be than the eye of your storm.”

A Secret for a Secret (All In Series, Book 3)
    Author: Helena Hunting
    Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Ryan Kingston is a by-the-rules type of guy, he has only ever been drunk a few times in his life. So it is out of character for him to be alone drinking at the bar when Queenie, a self-proclaimed walking storm, decides to join him. They are both looking to drink about and hopefully forget their problems. One thing leads to the other and the night turns into shared secrets, some heat between the sheets, a numberless note, and a pair of ripped underwear. It is a night they both can’t shake from their memories, no matter how hard they try.

Sometime later, King, an NHL player, is attending a team meeting when the GM’s new assistant walks in. When she turns around, it is none other than the Queenie he hasn’t been able to get out of his head. Not only is Queenie the new assistant to the GM, but she is also his daughter, rendering her completely off-limits.

King and Queenie agree to keep things platonic to avoid further conflict with Queenie’s dad and the team. But what happens when King knows he should stay away from Queenie but simply cannot stand to be without her anymore? The relationship between King and Queenie develops into something more than friends and is met with many struggles. Can they weather the storm together?

This book is unbelievably captivating! It is so hard not to fall for Ryan Kingston. He is such an attentive and compassionate boyfriend to Queenie even when she doesn’t make it easy on him. Queenie’s character development in the story has you rooting for her from the very first page. You can really feel her internal struggle with not feeling like she is enough.

Their polar opposite personalities develop into banter that will have you laughing out loud, it is impossible not to love these two. We do also get appearances from the previous characters in the All in series and the Pucked series in this book, keeping the group dynamic that is loved in this Helena Hunting hockey world.

Sharing a secret assumes trust in the person to whom the secret is passed. And when the two people doing the sharing are total strangers, unlikely to ever meet again, the mantle of secrecy provides added protection. When NHL hockey player Ryan Kingston, aka King, and Queenie Masterson, who’s trying to “find
herself” meet in a bar, both are on the way to blind drunk oblivion. King is a buttoned up, inveterate rule follower whereas Queenie is impetuous and spontaneous, seemingly going whichever way the wind blows. At 24, she’s still trying to find her true path in life. They couldn’t be more opposite. The secrets they shared are a common bond so when King woke up with a killer hangover he was more than disappointed to find only a Post-it note and her panties but no way to contact her.

Several weeks later in a pre-season team meeting King again sees the elusive Queenie only to discover she’s the GM’s daughter. Oops! The fallout from their one-night stand could be problematic. But not for King. He wants to pursue their relationship. Even though their shared passion is off the charts in hotness, Queenie is concerned about her lack of independence and always having to fall back on her dad to bail her out but she’s adamant in her desire to continue what she and King have started. He makes her feel things as never before and she’s never had a more skilled and attentive bed partner. But can they have a future together with all the baggage she’s lugging around?

Helena Hunting’s writing is an enrichment to the romance genre. Her plots are riveting and unique, never formulaic, with complex characters that feel like old friends by the time you finish the story. “A Secret for a Secret” is the third book in the “All In” series and, in my opinion, the best so far and I loved both Books one and two. In this story we get up close and personal with the idea that some people are not fit for parenting and the damage they can inflict on a child’s self-image. Such was the case with Queenie’s mother. Juxtaposed with that is King’s rowdy, unruly and unconventional family. Turns out his mother is actually his sister. Nah! Ah! Ah! Ah! If you want that explained you’ll have to get your own copy of “A Secret for a Secret”. Five stars.

I wish these titles helped readers figure out the order better (the “noun” for the “noun” format doesn’t explain much). So: besides the fact that these characters were named “King” and “Queen,” (I mean….yuck…), I thought this hockey couple story was engaging, especially since Kingston seemed so horribly one-dimensional in the last book (and not at all hockey-player-ish), but the king and queen come with their own sets of royal-sized baggage. A bit too much at times. I admit, I fast forwarded through some of it, but I really felt pleased at the end. The idea that you can have infuriating, well-meaning families is authentic. It was kind of nice to see where the author went with the drama at the end.

A bit steamy, but melodrama far outweighed the passion in this one.

Back for another wonderful, insightful, and very well written story by Helena Hunting. This time It's goalie Kingston aka King who takes centre stage. He's the quintessential good boy in khakis and white polo shirts who orders milk in bars and never drives over the speed limit. He's had the same girlfriend for eight years and never cheated on her. Then he breaks up with his girlfriend and a big family secret blows up his whole "perfect" life. When he goes to a bar to drink down his sorrows, he ends up picking up a one night stand that blows his mind. When he awakes the next morning she's gone much to his dismay but she reappears at training camp as Queenie, the off limits daughter of the general manager. The problem is these have chemistry through the roof and can't stay away from each other even though they're total opposites. He's calm and organized and she's creative and disorganized. She's also hiding a big secret from her past that comes back to bite her on her rear in a very very public way and threatens her relationship not only with King but also her dad. Much angst and confusion abounds! Toss in his mom who's determined to wrest him from the clutches of Queenie and back with his original gf, her over-protective father, a new star hockey player on the team and his crazy fiance who are bent on vengeance and determined to cause chaos in her life, and a delightful cast of secondary characters and you have another heartfelt story by Hunting. The books in this series don't need to be read in order but it does help to keep the characters and their back stories humming along. Highly recommend them all.

King is the calm one, Queenie is the chaotic one. But they are perfect for each other. King is so balanced and poised, it's actually beautiful how he handles all problems...I actually felt very happy to read this book. Not just because how King is calm, but also how Queenie finally knows what to do and faces her insecurities.

A Secret for a Secret is book #3 in the All In Series by Helena Hunting.

I love sport romances, especially when hockey is involved. So I think the Pucked Series and the All In Series are amazing.
I like that both series are intertwined with each other. We meet a lot of new characters in the All In Series, but there's also this familiarity when Violet and Alex pop up again during a book. I like that a lot.

A Secret for a Secret is the love story of Kingston and Queenie.
They're both so different, but that's exactly what makes them perfect for each other.
I had so much fun while reading their book. It is a funny, hot and beatiful story.
I liked the different twists and turns during the book. Thanks to them, it never gets boring.

I was also fascinated by the next generation. I really hope we get Lavenders Story.
