Seducing Sophia: The Pianist (Scholars of Seduction Book 1) Kindle Edition
Welcome to Book 1 in the Scholars of Seduction Series from USA Today Bestselling author Emily Royal!
The Scholars of Seduction, a band of rakes led by the Duke of Peterton, have pledged to seduce the women living at Summerton Hall, the Duke’s ancestral home—which his ancestors gambled away—in order to win it back. But a rake should never underestimate his quarry. With hearts and homes at stake, who will triumph in the Battle of the Sexes?
Colonel Adrian FitzRoy is tasked with seducing Summerton Hall’s resident music teacher, the widowed Mrs. Black. Expecting an elderly matriarch, he finds, instead, a delectable woman with an adorable young son. Soon, he questions his motives in seducing Sophia for a bet—a woman he’s in danger of falling in love with.
Sophia Black found sanctuary for herself and her young son at Summerton Hall, where she teaches the pianoforte. When she discovers that her newest pupil is an army officer, she initially turns him away, but his natural talent for music, and kindness toward her son, win her over.
Determined to protect her heart, Sophia struggles to conquer her attraction to the man who ignites previously-unknown passions with his skilful hands and scorching kisses. But when she learns of Adrian’s past, she realizes that the secret she’s harboring could destroy their friendship, and shatter her heart forever.
Heat Level: Scorching hot!
This steamy Regency battle-of-the-sexes romance has a guaranteed happy ending, and no cliffhanger

- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2022When I first started reading, I wasn't really sure about the "Scholars of Seduction" concept. It actually worked out pretty well. The reader is introduced to several characters, some more defined than others. Adrian originally meets Sophia under the guise of wanting piano lessons. However, he soon realizes that his interest in Sophia and her young son is genuine.
Their happy ending is threatened when a dark secret from the past is discovered. My eyes were watering because the entire situation was very sad. Luckily, Adrian and Sophia came to their senses and got back together without wasting too much time. My eyes were still watering when I reached the HEA!
This story had many likeable elements. Humor, lots of steam, and interesting secondary characters. The next installment will probably match up a woman who loves dogs and a man who is interested in Zoology. This promises to be an amusing romp!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and this is my honest review. Many thanks to Emily Royal for a free ARC.

Will they be able to let the past rest …
My first thought was how these men were all awful self centered haughty pigs, and I think I would offend the pigs by calling them thus.
They were all mostly in appearance only driven by what was dangling between their legs, and what booze was filling their glasses.
Andrian has in some sort reformed his libertin ways since his best friend, a known profligate and drinker has found his demise, a paid tribute to his excesses.
Sophia had to rebuilt herself after her world had been turned upside down for being a gullible debutante.
They both meet when Andrian accepts a challenge issued by one of his crony, an awful misogynistic dissolute. Both feel an immediate pull toward the other, but Sophia fights it when Andrian is more than happy to follow his impulse.
But when truth is revealed and past shared, can they overcome the shadows standing between them.
I was not fond of the male potential heroes portrayed here, conceited mean misogynists, seing women as furnitures to use and discard.
The women here bear the brunt of men’s deeds, abandoned, mistreated, overlooked.
Sophia is a sweet girl but she does not seem to learn much of her past errors, even if Adrian is not her first seducer. While Adrian knows perfectly his late friend’s flaws, why he left behind the overuse of drink but in some way he prefers to forget about his friend’s failing.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2022This is not my usual genre to read but I love this author's writing, so I thought to give this a try. Sure, glad I did. Loved it from the start.
Fascinating characters along with what I consider a double plot.
We have rakes, conquests, passionate romance, love, secrets, excitement and more.
A short enough story to read in one day but yet packed full of emotions and depth that kept my interest to the end.
Mature Advisory:
I truly enjoyed this intelligent adult story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2022This book was an enjoyable afternoon read.
The premise for the series is clever. The men are definitely going to get their comeuppance. Sophia & Adrian are a well suited couple that had me rooting for their happy ending. Am anxious to read the entire series and discover how each of the Duke of Peterton’s circle of friends meet their match.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2022If a novel can be graded by the level of emotion that it arouses in a reader, then this one definitely fits the bill. I found myself getting quite hot under the collar at the outrageous level of manipulation that the Duke of Peterton dishes out to his group of friends, starting with Colonel Adrian FitzRoy. In his quest to regain the property his ancestors lost as a result of their irresponsible behavior, the Duke is like a puppeteer pulling all the strings. The first to lose a bet, Adrian sets off for a music lesson with Sophia Black, who has everything to lose and nothing to gain when she finds herself falling into his trap. I also found myself being further angered by the double standards employed by Adrian and his initial disregard for the part his friend played in Sophia's downfall. Fortunately, this romance does come to a good conclusion, but I certainly hope that the author has a very special plan to teach Peterton a well-deserved lesson. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent.
An excellent start to this series, a well written novel with an interesting storyline and at a length I prefer to read.
There is a novella called “A Christmas Wager: Scholars of Seduction” that is a prelude to the series that I suggest reading first.
I quite liked Adrian’s character from the start though I didn’t like the reason for his seeking the music lessons (there would be no storyline for the series if we took it away though!) Sophia is also very likeable.
Well worth the read IMHO.
