Seduction & Destruction: A tale of crime and passion in the gangster world of SE London Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 66 ratings

If you're married to a murderer, you'd better plan his demise stealthily.

When her brother causes the death of one of the Brady family, well-known south-east London villains, Kate finds her own way to pay the debt.

Despite knowing how violent he is, Kate’s friend, Janey, helps her plot revenge, the seduction and then destruction of Kate’s husband. It is a dangerous game to play, as the Brady family is a powerful London crime family with both money and influence, and very few morals. But it is Kate’s fascination with the seedier side of London life, and her friendship with another of London’s villains, a rival to the Brady family, that introduces complications neither of them saw coming. Just who is playing whom?

I have a television in my head. I can change channels. I can mute it when other stuff comes along that demands my attention ...but I can’t turn it off.

As soon as I have any ‘me’ time, I turn the volume up and channel hop. So what’s on these channels? Well, it’s all drama, but a whole range of stuff from dark to light-hearted, from historical drama to modern to futuristic. What I do is watch a few scenes and see if it grabs my attention. If it does, I stay with it and see where it goes. If it’s got enough body, I’ll turn it into a book! Pot luck on the genre!

Kate is forced to marry Denny, a dangerous gangsta' in 1980's London, but she has a plan to escape and get revenge! Can she succeed without getting killed? And ultimately, will she want to?

This is really more of a romance book than the mystery/intrigue type, but that doesn’t mean there’s no danger present. Denny is a killer who trusts no one, least of all Kate. A former business associate tries to kill Denny, and later the youngest brother Colin is brutally assaulted – and Denny isn’t about to let these things go unavenged. But Kate is drawn to danger, and finds herself falling for Denny despite her plan to destroy him. This book is a fun, exciting read, although there is a fair amount of profanity. That's just the way people talked in London back in the '80s, and it wasn't so bad that it put me off the book. I look forward to more books by this author.

When I first started reading this story, feminist that I am, I was annoyed by the premise of a woman being forced into a marriage against her will. I identified with the MCs goal of plotting her revenge. But I, like Kate, eventually came to see that there was a lot more to Denny than the gangster mask he showed to the world. I enjoyed Kate’s character and her no-nonsense, no regrets, and surprisingly self-aware approach to the situation. And, without spoiling it for you, I can say I found the ending quite satisfying even tho it’s not your typical HEA. Definitely recommend.

The story brings you crime, revenge, attraction, some love too. Kate has been around Denny Brady since school days. Her brother gets into trouble with owing money to Denny's dad, Jimmy decides he can let the debt go if Kate marries his Denny. As the story develops and Denny is trying to decide can he trust Kate, their relationship keeps changing. Kate's friend Janey is there pulling her one way and the family closeness of the Brady family pulls her the other. The Brady family is moving away from their illegal ways to a prosperous legal life. There is much to learn from Jimmy and that is true for all of us along life's way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast pace and Intriguing plot

Great, unexpected plot-line; a fast pace from the beginning. It is hard to describe too much of the novel without giving it away, but 'An arranged marriage almost at gunpoint' sums up the first chapters. The retro era appealed too, taking me back to the 1980's, and the gangland culture was believable with such colourful characters. A most enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars An evocative read with a backdrop of relatability

I loved how this book throws you straight into the action, a real page turner from page one. Perfect for anyone who likes crime or romance, it's a great blend of the two. Story progressed well, and the characters have a human element that really draws you in.

"She was torn between being heartbreakingly sorry for him and being frightened of him, the anger in him, the hate. Happiness, that great anchor for sanity and reason, was completely absent."

A great easy read, that's taken up a notch by characters you care about from the start. Thumbs up!

I thought this book was sort of a cross between a crime thriller and a Mills and Boon, I liked the ‘bad guys’ characters even though they were clearly violent, great read and really enjoyed it.
