Shade Assassin (Books 1—2): A Demon and Vampire Paranormal Romance Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 31 ratings

Even demons have limits. I’m on the verge of reaching mine.

Father branded a traitor. Check.
Employers going behind my back. Check.
Threats on my life. Check.

The shitlist just doesn’t seem to want to end.

To make things even better, I’m caught between two powerful men in a dangerous game of attraction I really shouldn’t be playing.

First a powerful demon lord from an enemy court my liege would kill me if she found out about sets his sights on me.

Then the sin-worthy vamp with a killer smile I thought I’d already left behind waltzes back into my life.

Dealing with problems that can’t be solved with a slash of my blade has never been my forte. I should find a way to end this, not sink deeper.

Because I have a gut feeling that if I keep walking down this path, the only thing I’ll end up carving out is my own damned heart.

Fans of Diana Rowland, Laurell K. Hamilton, and Jennifer Estep will love the stabby assassin heroine, scorching hot romance, and an abundance of murderous suspense that will keep you glued to the pages!

Boxed set includes Shadow World and Shadow Lies, the first two books in the complete Shade Assassin series!

    Shadow World
What a magnificent story. It has so much action, drama, suspense, and mystery throughout it. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. I just had to continue to find out what happened. I absolutely loved Crina. She is this kick butt, take no names kind of lady. Yes, at times she has some struggles but she definitely is one that doesn’t give up. I love her attitude and feisty personality. The support characters are stunning as they play their roles perfectly. The story is extremely well written and developed. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

    Shadow Lies book 2
Oh man this second book is fabulous. It has so much action with twists and turns throughout it. Crina is still feisty and stubborn. She is still a kick butt assassin that so many issues that she is going through in this book. The mystery keeps getting bigger and bigger regarding her and her powers. I absolutely loved this box set as it allowed me to go from book 1 right into book 2 uninterrupted. The story is stunningly written and developed. The characters are amazing. The chemistry is strong and it is an absolute must read.

This is a set of the first 2 (out of 4) books of the Shade Assassin Series. It consists of Shadow World and Shadow Lies. The last remaining books (not included in this bundle) are Shadow Heart and Shadow Reign. The books are set in the “future” portion of the Kolovrat Universe (in which the Black Werewolves and Nightwarith Series are set) at the same time as the Lotte Freundenberger books (a series of 5 other books). I had to get used to all that, as these were my first books by this author.

These books struck me more as Urban Fantasy and the world building was fabulous and consistent. The author writes well, and the characters were engaging as was the plot. While these are all a series, there weren’t major cliff hangers at the end of the books.

Shadow World: This is the first book where we are introduced to Crina, a 23-year-old half-demon assassin who lives in both the Mortal World and in the Shadow World. She runs a gun shop in the former and is an assassin in the latter. Her forced allegiance is to Yelena, one of the Demon lords of the Shadow World. In this story she is asked by the witches to retrieve an amulet of power that was stolen, and at the same she is commanded to find and kill her father by Yelena. Enter Breccan, another ancient Demon Lord who wants her to do some sleuthing for him. Other characters, good and bad are introduced and Crina finds herself attracted to Breccan. I really enjoyed this book. It was a great introduction to a complex world and the author introduced many characters but managed to not make it overwhelming. The story moved along at a brisk pace as did the romance. My two minor complaint was the speed at which she trusted Breccan and bonded with him and the fact that for a solitary assassin she wasn’t very competent and needed a significant amount of rescue. The end had a twist that while not surprising wasn’t something I expected.

Shadow Lies: This book takes up some time after the end of the last one. It starts out with a bang – Breccan has ghosted Crina. She is angry about it but continues unraveling the mysteries she discovered in the first book (I won’t elaborate to avoid spoilers). She is asked to retrieve an orb and, in the process, meets Zion who wants her to avenge his child’s killers. Breccan continues to act like an *** (synonym for donkey). Enter more characters including a bigger role for Ilya. The plot moves forward well. Again, a well written book with great world building and use of characters. The story continued to be engaging. However just like in the previous book, Crina seems unable to negotiate and seems to be at the whim of fate somewhat for such a badass assassin. Not sure why she is still hung up on Breccan - I am totally Team Ilya at this point. The ending had a massive twist I didn’t see coming but one that gives insight into who or what Crina will be.

Overall, a great set of books, well written. I highly recommend and will be reading more of these.

This is a collection of the first two books in this urban fantasy series. Our heroine is the top assassin in the Shadow World, but some people just don't know when to leave well enough alone. This is an urban fantasy series with a kickass female lead and fascinating world. There is action and intrigue aplenty, coupled with well developed characters and a world that I want to know more about. Every answer provides several new questions which sucks you in and keeps you reading well after you should have left for work. These first two books are very well written, easy to read and very much page-turners. I look forward to reading the next books in the series.

    Highly recommended.

    Shadow World -
Crina is part demon and part something else. She runs a shop in the mortal world and is the assassin to Yelena, the queen of her demon realm. Crina has been tasked by her liege to find her father who has betrayed his court. She is also hired to find an amulet by the witches and then Breccan, lord of another demon realm, hires her to look into someone trying to sabotage his company. There is a lot going on but at the same time this book is more about getting to know Crina and her world. There is some action, the plot develops and the cases she is working on seem to overlap a bit. Towards the end things get steamy between her and Breccan and she manages to leave Yelena and pledge her allegiance to Breccans court.

    Shadow Lies -
This book starts with Crina at a loss because Breccan has refused to see her and cut off their budding relationship with no explanation. She dives into work to avoid the loss she is feeling and is hired to steal an orb. While trying to steal the orb she is caught and in exchange for her release she agrees to an assignment from the Nechist that caught her. Recognizing that something has corrupted her power which is what allowed her to be caught, she confronts Breccan asking for his help. While working the case she also reconnects with a former vampire lover, Ilya, and although she remains conflicted things reignite between the two of them. This book was much faster paced and had a ton of steam.
