Shelf Awareness: A Friends to Lovers Romantic Comedy (Green Valley Library Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 1,004 ratings

After catching her husband in a compromising position, Finley Granger finds herself in a new hell: reentering the dating world. When she moves in with her grandmother, her great-aunt, and their best friend, Finley finds herself surrounded by a trio of well-meaning yet bumbling matchmakers.

In spite of their efforts, Finley only has eyes for one person, and that’s Zeke Masters—the 6’4”, impossibly built, and ridiculously good-looking new man in town. Along with her nether regions, Finley’s journalistic spidey-senses tingle as to why he’s on sabbatical from Seattle. Is he on the lam or escaping a bad breakup? What's his story?!?! As Finley finds herself reluctantly drawn to the gorgeous IT guy, she can’t help but wonder: should she indulge in a rebound tryst with the mysterious Zeke, or has she finally met her match?

'Shelf Awareness' is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, can be read as a standalone, and is book #2 in the Green Valley Library series, Green Valley World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

A sweet romance packed with laughs, sexy moments, and great life lessons!!
Shelf Awareness by Katie Ashley is a part of Penny Reid's SmartyPants Romance World and book 4 in the Green Valley Library series. Finley and Zeke find each other after both overcoming some hurdles in their respective lives. The small town of Green Valley, Tennessee brings them together. This sweet romance was packed with laughs, sexy moments, and great life lessons that will touch your heart. The story also shared the powerful bond between Finley and her grandmother Beatrice, her great-aunt Dot, and her godmother Estelle. Their moments amongst each other brought so much joy and hilarity. However, I would say this novel leaned more towards women's fiction at times. There was romance but it was a very slow burn romance. Though I would have loved to have chapters in Zeke's POV, Shelf Awareness was my first read by Katie Ashley and it was a wonderful, well written story. I just needed inside Zeke's head. He was so mysterious, nerdy, handsome, and sweet. The complete package. Another issue I encountered was the moments of unnecessary and sudden drama but it was quickly resolved. Overall, this novel was a fun and enjoyable read.

If you are looking for a feel good book look no further than Katie Ashley’s Shelf Awareness.
We meet Finley Granger a woman who thought she had everything a great job, a happy marriage but what she never realizes is everything she knows is not true so the only thing to do is go back to her hometown of Green Valley and try and move on with her life.
Zeke Masters is a man who has come to Green Valley to find answers to some questions he’s looking for , he’s also volunteering at the local library helping out where they need him but what he never expects to find is one Finley Granger.
Finley & Zeke are two people that can’t seem to help the attraction they feel towards the other and watching them come together is so much fun to watch. Seeing Finley step out of her comfort zone and letting Zeke help her through it all is Amazing.
Even though this is Zeke & Finley’s story you can’t help fall in love with Gram Bea, Dot & Estelle three very special ladies not only in Finley’s life but the whole town of Green Valley

this is technically the fourth book in the Green Valley library series, which is part of a much bigger Pennyverse, that I will explain in a moment, but it works perfectly well as a standalone, so even if you are brand new to this author or world, you can easily pick it up and enjoy :) you get all the necessary informations about the main couple in this story, and even though there are definitely interesting appearances from other people who already got their own books, it just makes you curious to pick up their novels ;) when I said this is part of the bigger Pennyverse, what I meant is that Penny Reid originally created the town of Green Valley in Tennessee when she wrote her Winston brothers series, but now with cooperation from other authors, they can write stories set in that world and / or with some characters that we might know… it’s of course much more complex when it comes to the legal matters of everything, but you get the point :) I’m definitely happy this is a thing, because thanks to that I can be entertained with stories like this one :)

Finley changes her whole life after she catches her husband cheating on her… yeah, not the best day of her life… she decides to quit her job as a journalist in Atlanta and move in with her grandmother and her two friends in the small town of Green Valley :) this is where she starts a new job in the town’s public library… it’s also where she meets Zeke, who is also new in town and working as an IT specialist in said library… and while there is a little spark between them, the actual romance part is my favourite type… as in slow burn over some amount of time :) and I really liked that… I liked that they got to know each other more and formed a bit of a friendship before falling more for one another… I adored the writing style, and the best compliment I can give for that, is that I did not plan to read it as fast as I did… I just sort of started it with intention of reading like a few chapters and then I was in the middle of the book… then I blinked and was finishing it :) the story itself was very entertaining and hilarious, although it had a few things that prevented me from giving it full 5 stars… so I landed on 4,5 instead :) they weren’t big things, for example, Finley isn’t really my favourite type of heroine, so some of her choices and decisions just weren’t to my liking… sometimes she was just a bit too over the top for me… another thing that bugged me, and I wasn’t always looking out or those, but I am trying to be a better and more conscious reader, is when in I think two places there was a sentence like “I am so OCD about this” when they don’t have that disorder and what they mean is that they are perfectionists or something similar… it was a small thing but it grated on my nerves, cause it could have been written in soooo many different ways… when it comes to thing I absolutely loved, the biggest one is Zeke :) he was just such a nice and kind person and I adored that about him :) we don’t know a lot about him in the beginning, so I don’t want to spoil any details but he was just absolutely lovely :) the story itself was very entertaining and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to you all ;)

It was good only thing the writing style was not really my thing. It was sweet but it could have been a bit better

I’m not sure if I have read anything by Katie Ashley, but if all her books are like Shelf Awareness, she’s got a new fan. This book was sexy, touching and hilarious. The relationship our heroine, Finley, has with her grandmother and her two friends was so heartwarming. Coming from a small town myself, I can definitely relate. And our hero, Zeke, is definitely swoon worthy. Green Valley, Tennessee may be a fictional town, but I’d move there in a New York minute!

“It won’t be a new life until you start living it.”

Finley Granger needs a fresh start. After quitting her job and moving in with her grandmother, aunt and godmother, she gets that new start in Green Valley, Tennessee, where she gets a job at Green Valley Library and meets the mysterious Zeke.

“‘You think I’m mysterious?’ I nodded. ‘No one seems to know anything about you.’ ‘I know about me. All you had to do was ask.’”

This was my first novel by the hilarious Katie Ashley. There were several laugh-out-loud scenes provided by the heroine herself and by her golden girls. I enjoyed both Finley and Zeke’s characters, and I loved the interactions between them. There was a lot of situational comedy that I could easily picture in my mind.

My only trouble with Shelf Awareness was that conflicts between our two main characters resolved so easily. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a nice change of pace from a lot of couples, it just highlighted to me that this book is a work of fiction. Aside from that minor detail, I really enjoyed this book. It was highly entertaining and a nice addition to the Green Valley Library Series.

This book and all the feels! I really felt the angst and struggle of ending a marriage along with Finley when her husband left her for a man. I also cheered for her new relationship with Zeke, which was quite erotic, and cried at the birth of their son. Her GramBea and her cronies, Dot and Estelle, were tough stuff when facing down a kidnapper, who just happened to be Zeke’s biological father. It was all happy in the end with lots of diverse relationships, which the writer handled with great aplomb.

Cute story, implausible side plot about publishing PhD type thesis RE: Native American women, white woman teaching Cherokee language was disappointing appropriation. cheap racial stereotypes, mild sex scenes.
I’d love a HEA that doesn’t = marriage and baby.

This was a wonderful story about having a second chance at finding love. Finley and Zeke are such a sweet couple. I loved that Zeke was a bit of a nerdy guy who introduced Finley to the fun of the world of cosplay. They really bright out the best in each other. GramBea and all of her friends were hilarious. As always, it was great to catch up with many of the other residents as well.

A shocking end to her marriage sees Finley moving from the big city to sleepy Green Valley, where she moves in with her very own Golden Girls relatives. They manage to steamroller her into a job at the library and it's there where she finds lust in the form of volunteer Zeke.
The moments between Finley and her "girls" are pretty funny and her moments with Zeke are just hot.
A worthy final book in the Smartypants Romance Green Valley Library series.

Much of the plot was lighter than a recent book in the series (which was excellently written) and I welcomed that. This one had me chuckling a few times.

Shelf Awareness was a sweet read. The first half was a bit of a slog to get through, but I enjoyed the second half of the story much more. More interactions between Finley and Zeke, and a little bit more drama/action to keep me interested. Cute story, didn't love it though. Worth a read if you have enjoyed the other stories and characters in the smarty pants universe.

This is the fourth book in a series of connected books. Though the book stands alone, the other books in the series provide a background for the story as some of the characters have appeared in those books.

Finley’s marriage just fell apart and there’s no saving it. Unable to continue working in the same building as her ex, she decides to move to Green Valley to be with her grandmother, though she’s never lived there before, just stayed during holidays etc. However, she’s really close to her grandmother and her sister and another good friend. Not sure what to do with her life, her grandmother suggests that she take a job looking after the new history room at the library.

Zeke is volunteering at the library. He’s not from Green Valley but is apparently taking a sabbatical from his job in the tech industry. he helps maintaining the computers and supporting the patrons of the library as they learn to use the technology that is available there. Zeke is a very unlikely looking tech guru. He’s very tall and handsome and not what Finley was expecting when she sought him out for help in her new job.

The two quickly become friends and the relationship slowly evolves through the course of the book. Finley was badly damaged by her broken marriage and she finds it hard to trust not only men, but her own judgement, after it all fell apart so unexpectedly.

This book is sweet and funny. It’s filled with out of control meddling grandmothers and their sex therapist friends. There are lots of amusing incidents, but there is also tender moments filled with affection and good advice. It’s nice to read a book that has a slow and natural progression of two people meeting, liking each other, deciding to spend time together and then realising that they want more than friendship. It feels real and relatable as well as entertaining.

This is another good book in this spin-off series, from another author I’d not come across before, but will think about reading again. I’m so glad I decided to read the first book in this series because I’ve really enjoyed spending time with the characters and getting to try out new to me authors.
