About the author

Former chartered librarian, April Taylor, who worked in the fields of law enforcement and the Pharmaceutical industry, retired early to become a kept woman and chase her dream of being a writer.
In 2008, Legend Press published the first version of "Dearly Ransomed Soul", set in Worcester and featuring operatic soprano, Georgia Pattison. A revised version of "Dearly Ransomed Soul" was published in 2015 with the sequel, "Laid In Earth" the following year.
April’s historical crime fantasy books set in and around Hampton Court Palace near London, under the collective title, "The Tudor Enigma", were published by Harlequin. Apothecary and Elemancer, Luke Ballard, protects the son of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. The young and inexperienced Henry IX is beset with conspiracies both at home and abroad.
Since then April has published more Georgia Pattison novellas and a couple of standalones, one being a full-length Sherlock Holmes story, "Murder at Oakwood Grange", and the other a paranormal thriller, "The Angel Killer". She also wrote "Cutting Out the Academic Crap" as a short guide for students to help them write effective dissertations.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2020Best in series so far - relieved to be mostly spared Ned’s tiresome siblings. Also quite liked the Sherlock Holmes stand alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to witness a Murder when your back is turned
Conundrums are well-handled by the author, as previous titles in the Georgia Pattison series testify, and this is no exception. The murder takes place at a school’s nativity play held for admiring parents where at short notice Georgia has been called to play the piano. So she sees it happen. Or does she?
Georgia’s acerbic tongue and astute mind shines as ever, but Det Insp Hamilton needs facts not supposition, and there is a dearth. Who would think to look to the plot of an opera? But this is Georgia’s territory and it proves to be the key. I loved the sub-plot re the clearing of Hamilton’s name, with highly amusing subsidiary characters acting as if working under the guise of MI5, and, as ever, poor Ned – he of historical royal connections and a disintegrating stately home – is as long-suffering and supportive as ever. The descriptions of Worcester with its Christmas lights makes me want to visit, and it is an added bonus to be able to click on the links at the end of the book and hear all the music mentioned in the story. Highly recommended, and I look forward to the next.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't beat a bit of crime at Christmas!
OK crime fiction loving folk - if you have 99p to spare (or kindle unlimited!) treat yourself to a little Christmas crime. It helps a little if you've read the previous works in the Georgia Pattison canon, but not essential and doesn't detract from the storyline at all - you can be pretty sure fairly early on 'whodunnit' but then you're left guessing as to actually who the "who" actually is..... Confused? Buy the blimmin' book and find out! (and huge thanks to the author for putting in links at the end of the book for the music referred to throughout - While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night, sung to the tune of On Ilkley Moor Bah't Hat sounds impossible but it can be done and there's a YouTube link to prove it!) Music aside, this is a cracking good read and although described as a novella you'll find you've got a decent length read (average reading time according to kindle is just over 3 hours) without it dragging on too long and taking you away from the festivities. Go on, treat yourself - you deserve it!
