Shift: A Werewolf Shifter Romance (Southern Werewolves Book 1) Kindle Edition
Would you give up everything for love?
Hard working criminal lawyer Elizabeth Montgomery is finally taking a vacation, a solo trip to the mountains of North Carolina to a cozy little cabin in the woods. Unfortunately, she doesn’t even get to spend one night there. When she takes an early evening hike, she ends up on the wrong side of a vicious animal attack.
Or so she thought.
When she’s found and rescued by sexy stranger, Abraham, she soon finds out it was a werewolf that attacked her. And that she’s the newest member of Abraham’s pack.
Now Elizabeth must navigate the changes that come along with becoming a werewolf while also learning to fit into this tight knit pack. For an only child who rarely speaks with her own parents, getting close to Abraham and his family might just be scarier than becoming a werewolf.
This book contains language and sexual themes that are intended for audiences 18 and older.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024Where has this book been?! Saw it mentioned in one of my FB book groups and decided to give it a try. It is so good!! Excellent characters, the plot is terrific, you can understand how what transpires makes sense. Many unanswered questions, maybe in books two and three will be answered…

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2018I've never been so happy to find a book on Kindle Scout. This paranormal wolf shifter romance is one of a kind and didn't disappoint from the first page all the way to the end. Fast paced with an excellent slow build between Abraham and Elizabeth you'll swoon over their budding relationship. Well-written and detailed with a strong storyline I was hooked from page one.
I love a strong and snarky heroine and the fact that Elizabeth is career minded and doesn't let the hunky alpha Abraham control her was both refreshing and realistic. Kudos to the author for writing a female lead with her own mind, is intelligent, and has her own issues to overcome instead of being wrapped up entirely in a guy.
I'm a sucker for a HOT male alpha who is protective, loving, kind, and romantic and Abraham is one of my favorite male leads in a long time. He's sweet and endearing and with a family of sisters he's got his hands full with them and his pack. There's much more than first meets the eye with Abraham and the suspense quite swept me away along with the romance, and the sisters were so fun and well crafted I'd love to see books on each of them too.
My only critique is that I wish there was more resolution with the main story but I've seen that this is the first in a series so I don't mind waiting and will definitely sink my teeth and claws into the next installment with zeal. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those of you who love PNR and shifters. You won't be disappointed!!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 20205 stars for Shift by Heather Mackinnon. This is book one in the Southern Werewolves series. Elizabeth is heading to the mountains for a weekend vacation. She needs the peace and quiet. All that changes when she is bitten by a werewolf. She is saved by Abraham and brought into their pack. The person who had bitten her is a serial killer. This book is a must read. It is heated, steamy, has a lot of romance, and a ton of suspense. Elizabeth’s character is strong, witty and everything I love in a heroine of a story. Heather Mackinnon is a new to me author and I am now a big fan. The way she writes makes me feel like I am part of the story, like I can actually see what she is describing. It made the experience all that much better. I love Abraham and how romantic and caring he is while still being the Alpha. I can not wait to see what comes next. It is 1 a.m. and I am starting book two now.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2024This book was incredibly slow. I wanted to stop reading but I still wanted to know what was going to happen with Elizabeth’s first shift & who the killer was, which incidentally we don’t learn. I wasn’t too fond of Elizabeth. She just wasn’t endearing.
Abraham was ok but there wasn’t much in terms of his relationship with the pack except his occasional comments about looking out for his pack. There were hardly any interactions with pack members except Peyton. It just didn’t seem like there was much of a bond between all the members.
El hardly talks about her folks & TBH I don’t recall what happened to Abraham’s parents if it was mentioned at all. There are just too many unanswered questions.
Ben is an absolute turd & he just fizzles to the way side with no purpose to the story. Why was he even a part of the book?
The story was pretty flat but what annoyed me beyond belief is the limited vocabulary of the author. The repetition of words & phrases was so distracting & made the writing seem juvenile. The words incredulous(ly), giggled, grumbled, growled were constantly used! And “rolling my eyes.”
And very little spice. Very little. All in all I was disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2022This book is the first in a fantastic series that hooks you within the first few pages! Heather is such a fantastic author when it comes to suspense, romance, and sarcastic humor. I’m a supernatural fan, but these books give off such a real world feel with the subtle supernatural twist to them. I quickly read all this first book based on a recommendation and was excited to hear there were more which I then quickly finished shortly after. There is also a spin-off of some of the other main characters that I also highly recommend! One of the best things about Heather’s writing is that she makes you feel like you really know these characters and all their flaws and quirks and you can’t help but love them for it! If you haven’t read any of her work yet, what are you waiting for?
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2022This is a slow-burn paranormal werewolf romance, with a slight twist of mystery. A lot of people have issues with the FMC, but I thought she was fine. We didn’t get a lot of background on either of the two leads, which I hope is rectified in the next book, but it’s plain to see that she has trust issues. Knowing more about why she had them would have helped make her stubbornness a little more understandable.
It would have also helped to get something from the mmc point of view, but we didn’t really get anything. Right now, he’s a bit of a blank, but, again, I’m hoping we get more from him in the next book.
The mystery aspect could have been expanded on a bit, as there were some “leads” that may or may not have panned out, but on the whole it was a respectable start to a series and an enjoyable read.
There is some kissing and build up but no fun times in this book, so very low steam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ok read.
To be completely honest, I hovered between giving this book three stars or four. Whilst I agree with a lot of what other reviewers have said against this book, I find I’m not as convinced that it was all that bad.
Yes Elizabeth was VERY annoying in her stubbornness and being so filled with anxiety led questions, I found she at times had a point. Abraham was a bit wishy washy at times and I’m not convinced of his alpha status.
Three of the four sisters I actually kind of liked as there personalities came through. The constant use of Abey when referring to or speaking to Abraham got old fast, that said I get the urge for nicknames. Maybe just not that one.
As the book progressed it did pick up a bit in terms of interest, though it irked something fierce to have very little back story to Elizabeth. Hopefully that gets resolved in further books.
Despite Elizabeth’s age being revealed I have to agree with other reviewers that she acted more like a much younger person.
Overall this was an ok read.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it
My scale of 1 - 15 is a 14 . Young lawyer gets bitten and is fated to become a werewolf An alpha knows she is his mate. I don't like romance books but this one is really good . A 5 strain Amazon.
