Ship of Fools (Chistleworth) Kindle Edition
Luca Germano makes no choices at all. Instead, he lives quietly in the background and prefers the safety of his own hand to risking his heart. And someone as pretty and fearless as Andreas Mitchell is the last person on earth he should let into his life. Especially at Christmas.
This is a work of fiction. This story contains descriptions of sexual role play and consensual violence, and elements of mild BDSM, which are not intended to be taken seriously or imitate real life. Please read with caution if these themes might trigger or upset you.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2021Leave it to Sophia to be able to make some kink both sweet and hot, just like Luca and Andreas. One of the trademarks of her books are huge, warm, noisy families, and Ship of Fools has one of these. I am never sure which character is my favorite; I always leave the stories wanting to know more about the rest of them. Luckily, the town of Chistleworth features in two other stories, so I can get glimpses of Luca and Andreas again. My biggest complaint about Sophia's books is that I always come away ravenous. Every single story features the most incredible food descriptions, and leaves me scrambling to look up recipes. And drink lots of coffee!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2023This one was hard for me to read. The beginning especially. The self loathing.
Together, they pushed limits and that is what it is. It's not comfortable for me, but whatever. The love story made me happy. The fact that Luca's family was wonderful, and embraced Andreas made me happy also.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2020Sophia always make me laugh and cry in her books. The same with Ship of fools. I loved the characters Andreas and Luca, perfect to say "opposite attract" where Andreas seems like the bold and cheery guy and Luca the mellow and shy. But everything doesn't have to be as it seems. I also love the warm family feeling in the book and that even if you don't have a safe familiy from the start you can always build your own with peoplee you choose and like. And of course the sex is hot, dirty but also fun to read. Recommend this highly!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2020If you’d told me I could thoroughly enjoy an insta-love romance featuring a relationship cemented over a few days, I’da called you bonkers. Color me humbled by this Christmas gift. “Ship of Fools” by Sophia Soames is both charming and believable. She has created two men who could only have developed true intimacy in a rush.
Here’s Andreas describing his different traits. “Monday through Friday, I am a respectable car salesman, flogging cars to customers with more money than sense,” but weekends he looks for “a few good men who I let use me, and sometimes even abuse me, until I got myself sorted out and moved on.” He doesn’t exactly have a stellar impression of himself, with a “bestie” he describes as follows. “He owed me nothing. I owed him… nothing either.” But, given Andreas’ parents’ emotional abuse, it’s no surprise.
Luca Germano is the opposite. His accepting, loving family is intense and intrusive. Thus, when his one short love affair ended, he couldn’t cope and has avoided entanglement since. If he can’t be adored for who he is, why bother? Luca never voices concerns over his family’s many oddities because he must embrace them as they do him, without strings. This includes his very pregnant, single 18 year old sister, who upon learning of Luca’s crush on Andreas, texts Andreas and bullies the men into meeting.
Okay. They’ll grudgingly agree it’s not a date and they won’t be intimate. They assure themselves of this all the way to the bedroom. And Luca, who has never had a voice, discovers a dominant one, while Andreas, who has never felt cherished, discovers a man who loves to care for him… with the exact degree of roughness. Their light BDSM is an extension of their personalities rather than a lifestyle choice, and it is extremely intimate, even if accidentally dangerous at times.
With their backgrounds, neither man could have tolerated a lengthy courtship. It had to be all-in, or nothing. Thus, they make it work because each listens and learns. And they each find mates who are intensely focused on affection. “He says he loves me back. It’s a sobering thing to hear.” They envelop us with their newfound certainty.
And still, these humorous guys make fun of themselves and each other, entertaining us as we, too are fools on their love boat. “We are heading for disaster on a ship neither of us know how to steer. We have no plan, no compass and no map of the world. But do we really need one?” Andreas asks himself. I was thrilled by their love, their freedom together, and their ability to fuel demanding lives with what happens in their bedroom. “I suppose that is finding love. Finding yourself,” Luca wisely concludes.
I even learned a new phrase, “Force majeure” meaning an irresistible compulsion or greater force. That’s exactly the pull I felt to read on, completely enveloped in the push-pull of these men’s attraction. Cold winter? Phew, baby, Ship of Fools will heat you up!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2020Im really on the fence with this one! I love Sophia's writing style and enjoyed the quirky characters, the family dynamics, the almost pushed together hookup come come whatever you wanna call it after the previous flirting and rejection
BUT
The kinky bits in the story did not appeal to me at all (and I read all sorts). It just seem over the top and fake and it for sure needed a safeword that wasn't Stop!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2020Ship of Fools by Sophia Soames is wonderfully charming, steamy, and wonderful. This is an insta-love story with BDSM kink that takes places over the span of a few days leading up to Christmas and then jumps a year ahead to the next year's Christmas. Andreas is a car salesman who sells cars to rich entitled clients but after work, he looks for men to use and abuse him. He sees Luca at the bar he hangs out and hits on him only to get shot down.
Then he meets Luca again when he walks in for a job on a new car. Luca works for his father as a mechanic and fixes up cars. He has a loving, accepting, and quirky family who are intrusive, nosy, and hilarious. He's been hurt before in the past and doesn't want a relationship. Luca's sister texts Andreas one night and both men meet him. It turns out that both men are attracted to the other and Luca has a dominant side.
Andreas has felt like he was the only sailor on his Ship of Fools until he meets Luca and discovers someone that understands him and wants to act out his fantasies. Andreas' family is emotionally abusive and horrible but he finds a new family with Luca and his family :) Both men have their invisible scars and find fulfillment and happiness in each other. Lovely hot and steamy read that I enjoyed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I love Sophia's writing style, her books always make me laugh, sometimes cry too. So many feelings! Andreas and Luca feel so real, and their connection is just perfect, though they are so different from each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Fun Sexy Read
I have just discovered this author and I’m ploughing through her catalogue of books. The characters in this story are flawed and awkward and so engaging and believable. Such a quick read and I wanted more, though it didn’t feel unfinished. Sexy too.

I Love christmas books, and this one is on top on my list
Luac and Anderas are fantastic, on the outside they don't match.
