Silent Predator: A Paranormal Shifter Romance (Masters of the Deep Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 285 ratings

A predator prowls the Sea of Cortez, protecting a mystery that has been kept silent for almost a century—damning information that some are still willing to kill for.

Mason Lockheart is a highly decorated Navy SEAL with a mission that he can never reveal to anyone… even the curvy redhead who’s determined to bring everything up from the depths of the sea. Mason’s family has been part of a clandestine patrol since the USS Kracken went down. He has taken on a solemn duty to protect its final resting place and its covert mission.

Twenty years ago, Shiloh Whitaker’s mother was murdered to keep her from revealing what she knew. As a child, Shiloh watched as her mother’s killers got away, running from her home into the black of the night. Now later, she’s a celebrated marine biologist and treasure hunter, but her real calling is to find the Kracken and prove her mother’s suicide was anything but.

When Mason spots Shiloh’s submersible lurking in the dangerous waters around the Kracken, he tries to frighten her away. But Shiloh doesn’t scare so easily—even if the thing that sends her sub to the surface has rows and rows of razor -sharp teeth. Something about Shiloh calls to Mason in a way he’s never known before. Determined to pursue a passion he doesn’t truly understand while still upholding his oath, he follows Shiloh into a storm that could destroy them both.

When the truth is revealed, will Shiloh betray Mason and the Kracken, or will all of the secrets of his heart be safe with her?

I’ve been reading Felicity Brandon’s books for quite some time now, and she is most definitely one of my one-click authors. She’s that good at her craft. In this current story she teamed up with another author, not so well known by me, named Delta James, who has been quite a prolific writer in her own right. Their collaboration created some wonderful magic in the artful use of words.

Silent Predator is book one in a series of stand alone stories with interconnected characters. This is the story of Mason, a Navy Seal, and Shiloh, a marine scientist. Mason is guarding a very important secret buried in the depths of the Sea of Cortez, and Shiloh, for personal reasons of her own, is determined to unveil that secret. The story unfolds from there. And what a great story it is.

I’m not going to give away any of the plot simply because I want the reader to get the same experience I had. It’s quite an engaging read, one that held my interest from beginning to end. I loved these two characters, and I cared about what would happen to them on this perilous journey. Believe me when I say that these two authors have given us an exciting sea adventure, with wonderfully expressive characters, and an engaging plot line that will continue in more books to come.

I’ve never been disappointed in Ms. Brandon’s stories and now I have another author to explore, namely Delta James. Combining their creativity was a fantastic idea. Highly recommended.

She is determined to find out what really happened to her mother, who supposedly killed herself. He is a shark shifter who had a secret to keep. Lots of heat but he made her submit with the use of force. She wasn't entirely willing although she ultimately enjoyed it. I would have preferred for him to have more respect for her. He just decided what he wanted to do and didn't give her a choice.

This is the first book in a new series called Masters of the Deep. It's a fast-paced and standalone book that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
This is a story about a H who is a Navy SEAL, a white shark shifter and is guarding a sunken ship call the USS Kraken from WW II. The h is a marine biologist, a professor and treasure hunter. She is trying to provide that her mother was murdered twenty years ago and also a theory about the USS Kraken that her mother had.
Read to find out what happens. I voluntarily reviewed this book and this review is my own opinion.

Silent Predator is a shifter romance, but the main story line is about hunting for a sunken treasure. As well as solving a decade old murder.
The romance is hot and intense and the treasure hunt ends up with little answer actually bring told. But this is only book one.

Wow, I have been waiting for this story to release, & I wasn't disappointed! Mason & Shiloh are the perfect match, he is one hundred percent alpha & she is a feisty redhead. Mason's main job has been protecting the Kraken from nosy divers, in his shark form as one of five Master's of the Deep. Shiloh has left her job as a professor/treasure hunter & sailed to the Sea Of Cortez in search of proof that her mother & father were murdered for the information they had on the Kraken. The two of them come together when he saves her from the jaws of a smaller great white shark, only to truly possess her body & soul. Mason is bossy & demanding, while Shiloh is an educated woman with a mind of her own. If you love an alpha male with a penchant for discipline & spankings & a fiery female who can clearly take are of herself, you have found the right story. I'm just sorry book two isn't already ready to read!

Both of these authors are among my favorites, and they managed to blend their writing styles and create a gripping, suspenseful, and of course blazing tale that kept me glued to my Kindle while I devoured the story in one sitting. I never thought I would read about, much less enjoy, shark shifters but I should have known better with these ladies in charge. In fact, with this particular storyline, shark shifters were the perfect foil! Looking forward to the continuation of the series!

This was an interesting shifter story. This was my first shark shifter story. The beginning of the book immediately grabbed my attention, then it seemed to slow down a bit. After a while, the story started to pick up again.

I felt like the mystery of the Kraken and what happened with Shiloh's parents kept my attention. Some of the details regarding her underwater search and interaction with the sea life was not quite as entertaining.

I could immediately see Delta James influence on the book. Mason and Shiloh's relationship was intense. When he finally exposed the truth, I was glad to see her reaction. I hate it when someone takes something mind blowing in stride. I did wonder about Mason and Shiloh's discussion about the Kraken and her parents. That did NOT go the way I thought it would. I was expecting much more.

I was disappointed by the ending. I didn't feel like it ended on a cliffhanger, but I did feel like it left me hanging. After the reveal, after Schumacher, etc., things kind of just ended. What happened with Mason and Shiloh? What happened to Schumacher? He said some things to Shiloh that made me wonder how and why she connected Mason to the comments. I obviously missed something there.

I would have to go with 3.5 stars, just because of the ending. If all the questions aren't answered, I normally get the feeling of wanting to read the next book so I can get the full story. The way this book ended, I don't feel like enough of the existing questions were answered to make me want to seek out the next book. The only reason I would is because I like Zak, and wonder if the next book will detail what actions he took.

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Delta's good at writing BDSM with shifter PNR: this... is very different. I'd be very much like the heroine here, telling the MMC to take a hike and don't you come back! He'll probably ignore me as he does the heroine and do it anyway, but I really felt I'd wallop him a few times with his attitude! The authors have that aspect going for them! I'm keen to see how this arc pans out, there are so many questions I want answers to now! Hooked in, not so silently!

3.0 out of 5 stars Would prefer advance warning of the BDSM element
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 21, 2021
The opening chapter of this book had such promise of an excellent story, which is what I like. However, the leap into BDSM, which seemed more FSOG than Cherise Sinclair spoilt that early promise. A large part of this book was just the BDSM and not even anything new. The three stars are for the rest of the story. It was a good idea, but it could have been so much more.
