When passion runs too hot….

Of all the experiments, of all time…love still remains the most dangerous!

Samantha Fielding, an emotionally scarred ex-war hero enrols into a top-secret scientific research programme, for all the wrong reasons. Will she live...to regret her mistakes?

In a dystopian future, after a decade of war, the United Kingdom is on its knees, ruled by strict martial law. Any 'deviant' behaviour including homosexuality or lesbianism is punishable in a manner worse than death--the perpetrators are forcibly 'reset'. After her final and devastating tour on The Front, Samantha returns home. Here, in the small Cornish coastal town in rural England she struggles to adapt to 'normal' life and eventually, not knowing where else to turn, she enlists in a top-secret scientific research programme. This programme is intended to test her skill, endurance and fibre to their limits in order to unleash powerful, potentially lethal latent human abilities. As if life is not tough enough, she finds herself living dangerously by falling for the sexy, intelligent and enigmatic principal scientist, Dr Victoria Henderson, thereby - risking everything.

From the Author

I like stories because they engage the imagination. Someone once said to me "the world of the imagination is the sandpit of the soul". Here you can experience anything you choose... live out any fantasy, fulfil every wish, every desire... anything is possible. I see my stories as suggested paths through these worlds of possibility. I hope you enjoy them.

A great story that is well written and very readable. Enjoyed it immensely . The possibility of additional " Lighthouse Chronicles " is endless with either preludes or follow ups. The main character Sam Fielding is full of intrigue. Cannot wait for the next episode in the life Sam,

I enjoyed following Sam through her journey from her sense of failure to a new sense of purpose. After the trauma of losing her team and partner, Sam is lost and doesn’t feel she’s much good for anyone, let alone herself. Volunteering for a scientific research trial puts her on a new path. When Sam meets Dr. Victoria Henderson, she just wants to find a way to get closer. Sam ends up in the middle of an adventure she wasn’t quite prepared for against the state that wants to maintain its control. At the same time, that struggle helps her find a way back to herself. I enjoyed the writing style and the main characters and plot are well developed. The story flows well, is easy to follow and leaves the door open for more.

I enjoyed this book much more than I initially thought I would. I wasn’t sure on the scientific nature at first, but it proved well worth the read.

Not a huge fan. The writing style was great, the story flowed fine, and I didn't notice any pesky editing error. It was just that the "Superhero" aspect (which was intriguing from the description of the book) felt lacking, but perhaps it'll be better explored in later books. I'm not a fan of explanations after the fact - I wish we'd been able to see what happened to Victoria in real time. And the actions of Lady Frost with Victoria at the end of the book seemed out of left field. Again maybe this all works when combined with later books, but I don't think I would reread this one.

This book was a surprise to me. I love dystopian stories but am not enamoured of the superhero trope and was not sure I would enjoy it. So, wow! Now I am asking, can we have a backstory and a sequel? Please?
Samantha Fielding (Sam) is a returning war hero in a dystopian UK where any behaviour that is considered abnormal or deviant results in the person being arrested and ‘reset’. Sam has hit rock bottom in her life and with nothing to lose volunteers for a secret scientific programme. We then follow her through tests and experiments being conducted by Dr Victoria Henderson. When Sam starts being attracted to Victoria, then the story really takes off. There are some delicious side characters in the story, Dr Elms (one of the research doctors) and Lady Frost (one of the sponsors of the research centre) are the two I enjoyed the most. This is another fast-moving tale that will keep you turning the pages.

Simulation: The Dawn of a Superhero: A Lesbian Fiction Action Adventure
As I read this, I thought about the current political situation around the world and especially here in the U.S. What if?
Skyborne superbly creates a damaged character in former Marine and war hero, Samantha Fielding. After she returns home from her physical and emotional torture at the hands of the enemy, she struggles to find herself and her place in a post-war United Kingdom.
She is lost in a sea of memories that continue to torture her, looking for a place to belong, and in need of some way to earn a living. She finds herself volunteering as a subject for a top-secret research program that is funded by the government, ironically because of a chance encounter with a beautiful woman who just happens to be the person leading the program. If her attraction to Dr. Henderson becomes known, she could be sent away for “reset” which would wipe her memories and correct her unnatural ways.
Although there was a lot of testosterone flowing through many of the characters, the three main women Skyborne created bore witness to the strength and determination for survival that women possess.
I was truly surprised by the ending…no spoilers, I think you will enjoy finding out for yourself.

Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down.

Sam was such an endearing character, with a back story of tragedy and loss, it was hard not to love her. The enigmatic Dr Henderson was delightfully complex, with only small parts of her character on show at any given moment, leaving you to piece together the woman that is. The supporting cast are all well developed, you have a sense of who everyone in this story is.

The setting is realistic (and upon further investigation, a real place!). There is a sense that this is a future not too far from our present, one where the Government has ultimate control and the needs of the people come second. Where human testing has been taken to new heights (not all of them good) and turning people into weapons is on the agenda. It feels as though a world not too far from our own has lost it's way.

The romance that is interwoven into this story is developed at a steady rate. There is a sense that Skyborne knows how to give you a little, allowing for a powerful climax.

I would recommend this book to anyone with an eye for a great near future, sci-fi-esque story.

This is a great read, full of tension, a good plot. The characters are well written and I was really drawn to them.

Great to see a female character taking centre stage.

I definitely recommend it and look forward to the next instalment.

I really loved this story. I read it many months ago and loved it, and recently gave it a re-read. There is an interesting dystopian background behind the story, which is very everything - well written, easy to read and original. The Dawn of a Superhero really needs a Morning, Noon and Evening to follow on. Excellent book.

One of the things I like about this author is she usually manages to sneak in something a little different; something to challenge you and cause you to think a little. This book is no exception. A love story, an adventure, some hot scenes, all interwoven with an age old ignored concept that the human mind is capable of so much more than our every day experience. A recommended read with the full potential of a sequel.

Strangely this is my third attempt of trying to leave a review; each time it says thanks for the review and then its not listed......Amazon, what's going on.

Although I found the start a little slow and I wasn't quite sure where it was going, it soon took off and ripped along at a good pace. I warmed to Sam once she and Victoria met and the real crux of the story came through, and I thought the ending was really good, especially as it hinted at more to come from these characters. A good debut.

I bought this book recently, and even though I hadn’t exactly considered myself a sci-fi fan before, I absolutely loved this book! It is very well written and I really found myself engrossed in the story. The thrilling plot together with the passionate attraction between the two main characters kept me glued to every word from start to finish. I couldn’t put the book down and ended up reading it in no time. I have now also read Risk and Alice by this author and am an absolute fan - can’t wait for more to come!
