Sin, Repent, Repeat: A Thrilling British Detective Novel (Ironash - Detective Inspector Shona Williams Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 459 ratings

With a twisting plot of crime and redemption, SIN, REPENT, REPEAT is an exhilarating novel from bestselling author, A J Harlem.

Revenge is best served cold.

When Shona Williams returns to her hometown, Ironash, as an experienced DI, she has scores to settle. Justice will be delivered. What they did to her was evil.

Trouble is, she’s been thrown into the middle of a serial killer’s spree. Barely catching a breath between murders, he’s rampant, merciless, twisted, and preys on the weak.

Will her new partner, Earle Montague, be a hindrance or a help? Will she have time to work on her very personal case? And will the murderer slip up so they can swoop in?

Only God knows.

*Ironash is a thrilling detective series following DI Shona Williams as she fights crime and seeks her own justice - best read in order.

DI Shona Williams returns to her small town of Ironash with a score to settle. She’s looking for the three men who raped her when she was a carefree young woman. She’s smarter and more powerful now, and she will do what that young woman couldn’t do – find her tormentors and make them pay. While she’s trying to settle in on the first week of her job, and adjust to her new partner, Earl Montague, Ironash is hit with a rash of suspicious deaths of frail, older residents. They must stop the killings before the Serious Crime Squad rolls them over and takes the case.

I really liked everything about this dark, gritty mystery – the writing, the pacing, the plot, the dialogue, the characters, the settings … Williams and Montague are sort of a Mutt and Jeff pairing. She’s small, bubbly, and blonde – on the surface anyway; people who underestimate her are in for an ugly shock – and currently lives with her parents because she likes the comfort and familiarity of home. Montague is a large black man “who could take on Mike Tyson and win” and who likes to bake small, delicate, beautiful cupcakes on the side. In my head, he looks like Idris Elba. I like how they interact, and work together while learning each other’s quirks. Her personal backstory intrigues me too. She wants vengeance for what happened to her and her two BFFs, but she’s going to get it the right way.

I liked this so much I bought book 2 immediately after finishing book 1. I look forward to seeing what happens with Shona and how she resolves her “personal” case.

Did not hold my interest very much. Did not care for the relgious aim of content. You do not have to sin to receive love from God. Some reading this might believe you do.

This is a fast-paced story that doesn't waste time. It gets down to the nitty gritty. I like that. There were hints thrown in here and there of more going on with several characters that got my interest peaked and lead me to buy the next in the series. I especially enjoyed the twisted thinking revealed within the guilty character. I've often wondered, " what could they have been thinking to make their actions validated. Thank you and i look forward to reading more. What a captivating book!

Sin Repent Repeat Ironash opened my thinking on how easy it is to use religion to justify one’s action. This book had everything, including murders, repentance, revenge, and mom / son relationship issues. The book was at times dark and confronting, but also had its lighter moments. And it also had a back story that developed throughout but was not resolved that made me want to read the next book in the series as soon as I can get my hands on it!

If you love a good crime book then look no further then Sin, Repent , Repeat.
Who thought such a good boy could do such bad things, when Roy Campbell thinks that being a sinner would always find god’s forgiveness he thought wrong, and especially if Shonna Williams has anything to say about it.
Shonna Williams thought coming back to Ironash would help her get over her past demons and with the help of her therapist it would bring her closer to finding that healing she was looking for. This story has so many unexpected twists & turns, you will find yourself turning the pages quickly to see what will happen next so if this is the kind of book that will have you looking for that then look no further then Sin, Repent, Repeat.

A perverted belief where darkness becomes light.

Shona seeks revenge, but she is distracted by a serial killer case. Will justice be served? Can she extricate her demons

Shona is troubled. The past haunts her. She is in therapy recalling, traumatically, the evil. But she is a tough and resilient detective. The other characters are realistically portrayed, coming alive in the reader's mind. This is not a typical who-done-it. The strength of the novel is in the investigation and the mindset of the perpetrator.

The author sometimes writes with a dramatic flair. Her prose style introduces the characters while developing the story. She tells an engrossing story skillfully applying description and emotion. Reviewed by the author of The Children's Story, About Good and Evil.

The new DI returns to her home town with revenge on her mind.
However three murders in three days waylay her plans. The killer is revealed at the very beginning so one wondered when the 'revenge' would begin.
IT DOESN'T! You need to buy the next book for that.
This was neither a 'who done it' or a 'thriller.'
    Waste of time really!! Sorry.

This goes to show that you don't need to cram a book with four hundred pages of waffle. Get a well-written story with decent characters and tell it like it is. I thoroughly enjoyed this easy-to-read mystery and finished it in one session. Enjoyed every page.

I'm always on the lookout for new series and really enjoyed this book. It has real promise for the story to continue with a longer plot arc alongside the book's main murder story. Will be following this author now.
