Sippin' on a Prayer Kindle Edition

LANGSTON
I always knew that I would fall from grace, but I had no idea the impact would be so loud or what I would lose in the process. After losing my best friend and touchstone, everything spiraled out of my control and my band dissolved. That wasn’t enough to stop my self-destruction.

Not until I am thrown a lifeline. At first, I want to refuse when the guys from Suburban Outcasts track me down and offer me a chance to live. But I don’t think I’ll get another shot and since everyone else has abandoned me—rightfully so—what do I have to lose?

When I meet Cove, I realize just how grand the gift is that I’ve been given. She is my salvation, giving me back my voice and being the muse that I never knew I needed. Who knew I needed a curvy goddess to show me the light? I used to be sippin’ on prayers and regret, but now I’ve found my redemption.

COVE
Music has always been my peace and source of comfort and creativity. It just clicked for me, and I found my voice. My dream has never been to be on stage, but I know there’s a place for me to make music. I just need a chance.

When I learn just how much WPF Records values the music and is all about giving first and second chances to people whose passion is music, I knew where I could shine. I just didn’t know if I would ever get the shot I needed, but then I do.

Everyone knows Langston Phillips and his sordid past. Going from hoping for a chance to being thrown into the deep end with him becomes my only chance and his last chance. The mountain cabin they put us up in can hardly contain the music or the heat between us. Maybe we’ll find more than his redemption and my dream coming true; maybe we’ll find forever.

**18+ If you like alpha heroes and an insta-love story that is sweet and spicy but isn’t necessarily simple, then this is for you. No cheating with a guaranteed HEA. It is a standalone but is related to my Denver Family series (Banks Ink., Suburban Outcasts and Higgins Security) through WPF Records. Langston Phillips makes an appearance in Room One Hundred and Four: Shock and Awe.**

Ember Davis loves alpha heroes with a range of emotions, but a strong sense of how to take care of their women. She loves her heroines from all walks of life, just like her heroes, and she wants them to be real and relatable. Her heroines tend to be sassy, opinionated and smart.

Ember is a stay at home mom of two who recently refound her love of books and all things romance and is so glad that she did. She’s always been creative, but writing and creating stories that she would love to read satisfies the dreams she had as a little girl. She loves butterflies, the color purple and enjoying time with her family.

Pssst…it’s totally a pen name, but everything above is 100% true.

Langston had hit rock bottom when the guys from SO seek him out to sign with WPF after exploding his career. Cove has posted her songs on social media to get her music out there when WPF reaches out. When WPF bring these two together magic happens with their music and their hearts in this feel good read.

Loss and grief are hard and can cause even the strongest person to get lost. But Langston meets Cove who pulls him back to life.

I enjoyed the story and how the author brought to life grief addiction and finding your way back. All of us have our moments some more so than others, but being able to reach out and help each other is truly amazing. The characters felt real and I was happy with the outcome. Recommended read.

Great book but Very heart wrenching. Langston lost his music partner Conley to a drug overdose. He spiraled out of control and the guys from WPF and SO found him and offered him a chance to clean up and get back in the music industry. Cove is a up and coming songwriter who is hoping that working with White Picket Fence will get her music out to the public. The two are going to work together and time will tell what happens!

This was such an enjoyable read. While both characters dealt with some demons (his worse than hers), you didn’t feel caught up in their angst but rather like a friend ready to step in when needed. These are complex, sweet, loving characters who embrace their chance at success, and more importantly, love.

Sippin' on a Prayer by Ember Davis is part of the multi-author Wine & Rock -n- Roll series. This story is filled with heart, heartbreak, being at rock bottom, starting over, getting your first chance, finding love, connection and understanding. The story is about Cove, a small town Montana girl who has a passion for making and writing music, but not in performing in front of an audience. As she has no connections in the industry she decided to video herself performing her songs and post them online, hoping they would lead to a break. And what a break it was when she was invited to Denver to meet with WPF. This may just be her big chance if they will accept her passion for music but not performing. Langston Phillips has been through a lot the last few years. He and his best friend, Cole, started a band that made it to the very big time. But when Cole died, with Langston finding him in the house they shared, he was set adrift. So Langston turned more towards the booze to help black out the pain and then travelled around the country. When the guys from WPF and SO found him he was at just about bottom. They gave him a chance to dry out and get a career back if he chose it, which he did. He finds himself, after cleaning up and doing some recovery work, at a house in the mountains outside Denver where he meets Cove. It seems they are paired to write songs together for Langston's comeback album. No matter what Langston says or how he acts Cove is determined to not let him take away her one chance at what she wants to do, and she is really good at it. As they find their footing together and start to write together, they soon find other feelings start to develop for each other. Quickly Langston realizes that Cove is the only one he ever wants to write with again and he will be there to support her in any dream she may have, as she is with him.
I really loved this book. The characters are emotionally raw and have been so well developed and drawn by Ember. I also enjoyed the tie in with the WPF and SO world, with come characters appearing, but in a way that this book can be read as a standalone. A very entertaining and heartstrings pulling read.

Langston and his buddy Conley made it big for a while and Conley passed away as other rock n roll stars have- an overdose. Langston has been hitting the bottle ever since and now is a has been. He misses his friend and blames himself. But then, Kait & The Suburban Outcasts (Cole, Booker and the gang) show up and give him and offer that if he sobers up, can give him a life again, with one catch- WPF Records (which is SO) wants him to work with songwriter, Cove. Cove has been putting her demos out to labels and while waiting has been putting it out there on social media. WPF Records found her, but she has no interest in actually performing on stage.

At first, things are just crazy bc she is a fan on Langston, but then when he stops being defensive, and they actually talk- they find they can work together. After that, it’s history. I really enjoyed the story of redemption on Langston’s part and how Cove helps him in all ways. I like how they fall in love and boy when it gets steamy. Yeeesssh. Totally needed the AC on. lol.

Cove and Langston, wow, an emotional, sometimes traumatic read. He’s lost a dear friend to drugs and alcohol and the book starts with Langston looking like he’s going down the same path.
Cove is a songwriter with no desire to be on stage.
No spoilers, enough to say I cried, I swooned, I cried again. Two wonderful epilogues wrap up their story.
