Kiss My Sweet Skull: The Alice Chronicles Book 1.5 Kindle Edition

3.6 out of 5 stars 7 ratings

Three mysterious, romantic, and funny short sequels to Alice in Monologue Land, featuring faculty and students of Garden Beach College, the fictional home of the novel.
“Cupid, with a Eucalyptus Tree, in the Teachers’ Workroom” – In this short story, Annabelle Lopez’s anonymously delivered valentine is so perfect that she knows her soul mate is tantalizingly close by, except none of the local candidates fits the bill.
“Apples and Goat Cheese, and a Red Bikini (In France!)” – In this short sequel, Frannie, an American au pair girl for a surfing family on the French Riviera, finds unexpected romance there, but also trouble lurking in the dark. The clue to the mystery is in the apples and goat cheese.
“Kiss My Sweet Skull”-- In this novella, Dr. Betty Hundleby is having awful nightmares at Halloween—dreams populated by a mass of skeletons closing in for a strangling hug. Meanwhile, the real skulls in this anthropology professor’s lab need IDs, yesterday. Can Indiana sugar pie make Betty’s horrible dreams and dismal mood disappear? Or will it take something stronger—and warmer—like a surprise kiss?

Kiss My Sweet Skullreview by Dianne Bylo of Tome Tender Blog

"With Amy Gettinger behind the wheel of anotherhysterical chick lit short, I would suggest buckling up tight, grabbing sometissues and get ready for the core workout of your life! I MAY have gone twopages without laughing, maybe. The antics and mental dialogue of one seasonedanthropology professor in the hands on experience of her life! The remains ofdeceased immigrants sneaking into the US are being cataloged and identificationis being pursued, if only to bring closure to families on both sides of the USMexican border who's loved ones have gone missing. Serious business, emotionalbusiness, all enough to bring tears to one's eyes as the delicate work of"bringing the deceased home" begins.

Betty thought she could handle handling skulls, bones and the mundane cataloging of skeletons but the off key and strange humorof one co-worker could give her nightmares for life. Disaster after disasteroccurs and pretty much, one will find Betty at the bottom of the skeletal heap,as mystery and mayhem clash in the most irreverent ways. Only the pie therapyof her friend, Al seems to keep her head above water and gives her theperspective to go on, or has she lost all sense of propriety and fallen for theking of decadent desserts? Has Betty revealed too much to this charming andkind man? Talk about skeletons in your closet...

Kiss My Sweet Skull by Amy Gettinger is one more humor with heart tale from the author thatlives life to the fullest in her stories and shares each moment with her words. In spite of the humor, and the chaos, there is a sweet story of closure forloved ones, doing good for others and, well, for Betty, toughing it out whilebeing completely out of her element to help others! I love Ms. Gettinger'sstyle, no need to dig deep for some secret meaning, she lays it out there, leaves you with some laughs and makes that precious escape time priceless.

I received this copy from Amy Gettinger inexchange for my honest review."

Spooky skulls, handsome men, and pie! What more could a girl want? This original romp follows the sabbatical of Betty, a college prof/ anthropologist, who is delightfully aging and manifesting all the fears and doubts one would associate with women in their 40s. Betty's internal dialogue left me chuckling and red-faced as I related all too well to the battle between loneliness and searching for a place to belong that only single women understand. The other characters in the author's cast are so well drawn, as is the quaint small town coffee shop, that I felt like I was waiting to be invited to the party. Who wouldn't want to have a mouthful of some of that delicious homemade pie? In the end, it was the farcical nature of events that proved to me that Amy's books are just what I need when I want to laugh at the all too human side of being a woman in middle age.

First of all, the formatting was ridiculous. The authors used triple spacing which on my Kindle meant, at best, one paragraph per page. You would wear yourself out turning pages. Before I even starting reading, I reformatted it to a normal, readable, single-spaced format. I should have saved myself the trouble.
I will hazard a guess that English is not the first language of these writers. The sentences are stilted, sometimes choppy, sometimes repetitious and, for the most part, it was just plain difficult to make heads or tails of them. It was very wearing and I soon gave up. No way could I recommend this book or these writers if this is an example of how they write.

I so enjoyed these feel-good chick lit shorts! They're a small collection of fun and fast paced quirky stories I couldn't put down. They're well written and easy to read with a light thread of humor running through each, from the crazy situations people find themselves in to... skeletons! Each story is different but the one thing they have in common is heart: the characters felt relatable and real. Such clever titles too!

Oh, the life of a teacher .... These stories follow the adventures - yes, adventures, of characters who teach at a small college. Life is never boring with mysteries things that go bump in the night and all manner of love interests - from overbearing suitors to secret admirers. These morsels of romcom mystery truly satisfy!
