- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2021Even though "Sleighed: A Children's Christmas Tale" by WJ Scott is an entertaining book geared toward elementary school-aged students, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as an adult. The story is about Master Tinsel, an elf, who is assigned to work the nightshift on the soft toy-stuffing production line. Magical glitter from the ceiling lands on his hands and the toy inspector cautions, "The magic dust isn't so much fun when it gets into places it shouldn't." When Tinsel is asked to help feed and groom the reindeer, he discovers what happens when you don't wash off the magical dust.
WJ Scott has created a clever book that would appeal to elementary-aged students and challenge them to learn new vocabulary. An example of humorous dialogue is when Tinsel is shown the reindeer stables: "Nasty ailment. Rudy will be grounded for a week. Sneezing and sleigh-flying aren't a wise mix. Santa warned him not to snort those snowballs." The tale contains vivid, sensory descriptions that stimulate your imagination. "Tinsel rubbed his fingertips together, and the glitter exploded into miniature fireworks."
The illustrated Christmas tale is one that both elementary, school-aged children and adults will enjoy reading. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2021This is a cute book for children which captures the magic and fun of Christmas. Tinsel is a new elf who is being assigned to his first task in Santa's workshop when he is unexpected re-assigned to help groom and feed the reindeer. Their usual caregiver is busy looking after Rudolph who has snow-fever.
In his rush to start work, Tinsel forgets to wash up properly and leaves the workshop with magic dust clinging to his fingers. His forgetfulness has unintended consequences and Tinsel ends up on the journey of a lifetime.
This short story is full of fun characters, lovely and colourful illustrations, and some simple humour guaranteed to make small children laugh.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2021Tinsel, the new Elf in Santa’s workshop, suddenly found himself turned into a Reindeer. He is confused but loved flying with Santa. Cerious Clae, the Chief-Toy-inspector, assigned him to the stables, and it was there that he met his fate. However, Santa knew what happened and knew that Mama Santa also knows and has a plan.
This is a lovely Christmas story.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2023This was such a delightful read! I had no idea where we were going, but I was excited to get there. I love the magical adventure we go on with Tinsel and the fun we have along the way. And who doesn't enjoy a sweet, comical Christmas story with Santa and his elves?
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2021The author knows how to work with a story. Her descriptions are cleverly worded. An example is this ... "Open every day except Christmas and Boxing day." Boxing Day? I love that! How about Cerious Clae. That's the name of the chief toy inspector.
It seems that Tinsel, one of the elves, got himself turned into a reindeer before he knew it. The author has a way of describing how it happened without exactly saying a whole lot. I'm not going to reveal the rest of the story except to say that in one blink the read was finished.
Wendy J. Scott gets my vote for that. It was short but sweet.
5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2021What a magical adventure an elf had on his first day on the job. He reports for duty on his new assignment but is pulled out at the last minute to feed and groom the reindeer as the stable staff was tied up in caring for a sick Rudolf. One rule the elf broke when leaving the factory is that he failed to wash his hands of the accumulated magic dust from inside. As a result, he has a transformation when his magic dust mixes with Mrs. Claus' magic potion for the reindeer.
His adventure lasts the day and he returns to his job the following evening. Of course, nobody will believe his story. This is a fun read and is recommended for all ages. Great job WJ Scott.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2021This sweet tale will delight young elementary school-age children. It's full of clever jokes appropriate for the age, amusing happenings, and is just the right length for a quick bedtime story. The language is simple enough for young readers to manage on their own but cleaver enough for adults to enjoy.
The illustrations are bright and colorful. I loved the magic. The twists and turns of the plot are surprising but logical enough for a child to understand and follow. I can't imagine any youngster not loving this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2021Wow! I truly enjoyed reading this Christmas story for children. This author has put a twist on the way she's introduced us to the little characters behind the pages. And who are they? They're Santa's little helpers. That in itself, made for a great and interesting read. It kept my attention that's for sure. I have no doubt this book will keep the attention of all who reads it. I loved the creative mind that went into the development of this story. Kudos, to the author, W J Scott.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5* fun.
A fun little book that was simple with some cool ideas that I would love to have seen grown a little more. It just felt a little short, a shame because it was fun and well written.
