So... This is Awkward Kindle Edition
Things quickly spiral out of control when he makes the surprising discovery that quite a lot of girls want to be tied up and spanked, and that he also quite enjoys tying them up and spanking them. Harry re-tells the funniest and sexiest highlights of his kinky dating adventures, presenting his stories in an honest and non-idealised fashion (with plenty of English self deprecation thrown in too). Composed entirely of true stories this book also tackles some of the prejudices and myths that surround the subject of BDSM, and provides interesting snapshots of the diverse personalities that Harry encounters on his adventures.
Through a process of trial and error, (emphasis on the error), Harry becomes more adept at seducing ladies who want to fulfil their submissive fantasies. Distilled from over forty different dates these stories contain a few life lessons that are hard to sum up in any dating self-help guide. Despite some success with the ladies, the true romantic connection that Harry craves proves to be a lot harder to tie down, and require skills that aren’t printed in any bondage manual.
His many dates drive Harry to explore the city’s many different neighbourhoods, and eventually he begins to feel at home wandering down New York’s steaming avenues. As we follow his twists and turns it often seems like the girl of his dreams is hovering just around the next corner, but will he ever catch up with her in time?
*
This book is a comic memoir with frequent descriptions of sex. It tries to paint an honest picture of Harry’s own particular brand of insecurity and the strange evolution of his masculinity, and also introduce some of the diverse and non-stereotypical range of people that are attracted to kink. This book should be a good reference for anyone dating in this age of tinder, okcupid, and fetlife, and also show everyone that, however weird they may consider themselves, they're really not as alone as they might feel.

About the authors
Harry is on a mission to make the world a happier, sexier, and more open place. His first step towards this goal was to publish a book about all his own (some might consider shameful) secrets, insecurities, and dating blunders. ‘So… This is Awkward’ tells the story of how he moved to New York, got into online dating, and discovered a brave new world of kink.
Harry has many future projects on the go, including more books, and also other, kinkier, endeavours, so if you’re feeling brave go check out his blog and see what he’s up to now!
The author formerly known as Timothy Tuttlesmith eventually realised that, although amusing, his pseudonym was far too ridiculous to be taken seriously by anyone and so changed it to Harry Newhouse.
This name change seems to be too much for amazon to cope with though, so this page remains here as testament to one of Harry's many errors.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2015So..This is Awkward by Timothy Tuttlesmith is truly an outstanding memoir that leads readers on a journey of discovery. A path that Timothy Tuttlesmith engages his readers with turns out to be funny, hot, delightfully entertaining. Here the man moves to New York where he decides to take on online dating explores things such as his exploration of BDSM. Readers will love reading this story because it's realistic, well written and lures them deep into the depth of the plot as it continues to unfold. I enjoyed reading this because the character's personality and his relationship and discoveries made for a stunning read. A nerdy, decent, and a little bit wild kind of guy who searches for the girl of his dreams. So..This is Awkward explores a theme that will touch many readers' hearts and keep them coming back to read his next masterpiece. Overall, I rate this a five out of five stars and recommend to everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2015This book came up on my FB feed and was being offered for free so I took a gamble. So glad I did. I enjoyed it so much I kind of feel guilty for not paying for it. The self depricating British humor brings this story to life. Part Diary of Adrian Mole, part About A Boy, this is a highly entertaining read that I was reluctant to put down for mundane chores like having to feed my family. The adventures of Timmy are a breath of fresh air as this is not your typical hero. A Slightly luckless, a little naughty - but quirky nerdy and nice - guy takes on the hazards and pitfalls of dating in New York. Helped and hampered by the online dating scene, he has some sexy (and some not so sexy) adventures (and misadventures) along the way. The memoir style is well written and makes this tale highly relatable.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2024What is a romance novel?
Romance novels written for women portray an idealized world where the men are tall, handsome, rich, and single. The women are normal people who aren't exceptionally rich, beautiful, or great in bed. In he real world, tall, handsome, rich, single men know they are the ideal mate and can thus select a woman who is beautiful, intelligent, rich, and fantastic in bed. There is an enormous genre of these idealized romance novels for women.
So what is an idealized world for men? Pornography? Maybe not quite, but not far from it. The men are normal guys who aren't exceptionally tall, handsome, rich, but probably are single. The women are young, beautiful, and eager to engage in all manners of sexual relationships. In time the man realizes that one night stands aren't as much fun as being married to a beautiful woman who enjoys their favorite flavor of sex. This is such an idealized men's romance novel. It portrays a man into the BDSM fetishes and his quest to find the ideal woman. If that is what you are looking for, this book is highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2015Not a lot of depth to the stories and poor man's analysis. Okay but rather disappointing in the end really.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2015This was such an awesome book! It not only provided me with the steamy sex scenes but it also provided me with an excellent storyline to go along with it! I LOVE how this book isn't the typical love at first sight and he is suddenly this changed man. So in my overall opinion I say get this book it was well worth the money and the time. This is the type of book that stays with you long after you have read it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2015An Englishman comes to New York City and tries his hand at online dating.
This was very engaging and funny reading as dating tactics were explained. It's fun to see what happens on his first dates and how he changes.
Nice beach or vacation read.
Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2015I would give this a more detailed review if I knew anything about writing reviews. But basically this book is awesome because it's about lots of sex and written by an Englishman about Americans. Can't get much more entertaining than that!

An excellent read: funny and engrossing.
The narrator rings true, and the stories, effectively a series of extended anecdotes, are too bizarre to be made up. Fascinating insight into a world of online dating and BDSM in New York, from the analytical eyes of a scientist.
Bring on the sequel!
