The Difference Between Somehow and Someway (The Difference Trilogy Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 2,100 ratings

The world gave me everything.

After surviving a plane crash, I was lucky to be alive. It was a harsh truth, but one that changed my perspective on how fragile life could be.

So when a fellow survivor caught my eye, I owed it to myself to take a chance and follow my heart.

Bowen Michaels was guarded and broody, but I saw through his well-formed armor. Much like me, he was broken and lost, but together we found our way through the darkness.

For a brief moment, wrapped in his arms, it felt like maybe he was right about fate and we’d been destined to find each other all along.

But when buried secrets of the past erupt, igniting us both, it was hard to believe we’d been fated for anything other than failure.

The world gave me everything.
And then it took it all away.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four hilarious children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys movies that can surprise her with a twist, charcuterie boards, and her mildly neurotic golden retriever. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a glass of wine by her side.

Still so many questions, though we do get some answered… I will say, the love that Bowen has for Remi is just stunning. Their chemistry and his dedication to her jumps off the pages. There’s pretty much nothing I can say about this story that isn’t a spoiler so I’ll just say this, never underestimate the brilliant plotting and scheming talent of this author. Just when I thought I had this somewhat figured out (as evidenced by my million tabs and highlights!), she pulls the rug right out from under you! I highly recommend this series if you’re a fan of twisty, spicy romance with a side of suspense. These cannot be read as stand-alones. It is part of a continuing story following one couple, Bowen and Remi. If you need me, I’ll be over here pre-ordering the case of wine I’ll probably need to get me through the third book!!

I cannot tell you how anxious I was to get my hands on The Difference Between Somehow and Someway. Not surprising as the jaw-dropper of a cliffy in The Difference Between Somebody and Someone, the first instalment in The Difference Trilogy, left me with so many questions. Although Martinez shed light on most of them, I never expected her to drop the bombshell that she did at the end of this one. I mean, how much can a reader take when every emotion is so raw!

Most likely, I had slipped into my comfort zone while enjoying these two love birds’ relationship progress because if there were a couple made for each other, it is them. However, I knew that when the truth reared its head, I wouldn’t be the only one to be devastated. At times I felt as if Martinez had led me down a path where I couldn’t see the forest for the trees. This is what Martinez does to perfection—pulling your emotional strings, getting you so involved in the story that even trying to guess how the story is going to pan out seems to be the last thing on your mind.

All I yearned for was sunshine and rainbows. Forget that for a lark!  But don’t despair too much. The author gives her readers outstanding banter, sob-your-heart-out moments and heartwarming scenes, which will make you swoon over a guy who deserves it all. Bowen—ooh my, I have no words to describe how much his actions affected me. And what about the heroine in the story? Yes, Remi is undoubtedly lovable, but the big but existed to such an extent that I could have jumped into my e-reader to make her see the light day regardless of what had happened.

Destiny plays an important role, but is it enough? Lies pile up to such a degree that not only made me root for both of them but want them to find peace of mind. I am so looking forward to seeing what Martinez has to offer in The Difference Between Someday and Forever. Bravo!

How in the ever loving world could this story take such a sharp turn?
Answer: in only Aly Martinez style
  • Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2022
Just like the first one in the series, this book is very much unique. It takes you for a ride, and I couldn't stop reading.

Bowen and Remi pulled me in. Again. I was lost in their story, in who they are, in a narrative that I knew wasn't going to end in this book. And I still couldn't help but feel all of it in my bones, all the emotions oozing off the page.
These two feel so raw and so real to me it's hard not to talk about them as if they're real-life people. And the way they love is the way you'd want to be loved.

There's so much angst, so much regret, desperation and straight up fear, of loving and losing, in this book. And regardless of how you spin it, it all leads to one thing: love. Love is at the root of all of it, the kind of love where nothing and no one else matters. The kind of love that makes you risk it all.

Somehow and Someway ends in yet another cliffhanger, and I can't wait for the final book. All I ask for is the happily ever after these two characters deserve.
    Brilliant book.

Gosh this second edition of the trilogy series is equally absorbing, fascinating, and jaw dropping as the first. Twists and turns abound, and my goodness the first book finished with a cliffhanger, we’re this one picks up. We spend time continuing to go back and move forward, until we appear up to date. However all is not what it seems again. Talk about intrigue, and suspense. The characters both human and canine are totally adorable and believable. The romantic scenes are wonderful, but truth a realisation appear and disappear in a blink. Left wanting book 3. So very much. How Aly thinks of such absorbing plots is way off the page. A wonderful mind , painting such a delicious story that you want to digest immediately on starting but have to practice patience till book 3.

This is somewhat a repeat of book one as the story loops back and forth from past to present as it fills in a few more blanks from book one. It picks up around 70% ending with a twist.
