Soren (Vampire's Mate Book 2) Kindle Edition
Gabe Kingman has never been great with his emotions. His disastrous personal life is evidence enough of that. Returning to be a doctor in his small Colorado hometown was supposed to bring him closer to his family, not push them even further away. He’s been slowly working to repair the mistakes he’s made, but his efforts aren’t made any easier by the new existence of vampires in his world. Especially one pesky, annoyingly beautiful vampire in particular.
Soren Iversen never meant to stay in Hyde Park this long. He hasn’t kept himself alive for centuries by letting himself be a sitting duck. But instead of moving on months ago, he’s been kicking his heels in the most boring town in the world, hoping for one stubborn, annoyingly compelling human to pay him even a bit of attention.
When circumstances force the two of them together, Soren’s obsession and Gabe’s unwilling attraction are brought to a head. But Soren has been running for a reason, and the skeletons in his closet threaten to tear the couple apart before they can even begin.
Soren is a heated, fated-mates MM paranormal romance with a HEA and no cliffhanger. It contains a stubborn, emotionally-repressed ICU doctor, and a bratty, slightly unhinged vampire not afraid to stalk a man to get what he wants. It also contains steamy scenes between two men, and the moderate violence (and mentions of blood) that one might expect from a vampire romance. This book can be read as a standalone, but the series is best enjoyed in order.

About the author

Grae Bryan has been reading romance since she was far too young to know any better. Her love for love stories spans all genres, and there’s nothing she finds more exciting than all the fictional worlds she has yet to explore.
She lives in Arizona with her family, who graciously share space with all the imaginary men in her head. When not writing or daydreaming or parenting wild children, she can generally be found reading more than is healthy, walking her monster-dog, or cuddling her demon-cat. She loves anything and everything gothic, cozy, lovely, or strange.

After falling in love with Soren in the first book I knew I was going to enjoy this book and it did not disappoint. This book takes place a year after the events in the first book. Gabe is still coming to terms with the existence of vampires and still struggling to be a decent brother and son. When Danny and Roman leave for their honeymoon, Gabe finds himself babysitting their dog with Soren and now he can’t ignore his feelings for him.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this couple because I honestly didn’t really like Gabe in the first book. Gabe is dealing with anxiety and the conflicting feelings from his childhood, which has caused him to push his brother and mother away. He desperately wants to reconnect with his family but struggles to bridge the gap. Gabe had wonderful character development in this book. We see him go from a anxious man struggling with his actions, or lack thereof, to a man who is finding happiness and peace in the arms of a vampire. For a character that I didn’t like at first, I ended up really loving Gabe.
“But Soren. Soren had made Gabe better. More open, less fearful. Gabe could accept magic in his life, if Soren came with it.”
Soren was a snarky, bratty vampire who has kept everyone at a distance due to his past. Soren was a character that I instantly fell in love with and I just ended up loving him more after getting to know about his past. I loved seeing Soren let Gabe in and open up about his past with him. Also, I adored all the cuddling and Soren pretending he didn’t like it. It was just so cute.
These two had an intense and sweet relationship that kept me hooked. I loved these two but I also loved that we got to see a good amount of Danny and Roman as well. I really love this small vampire den they are building and how it is so full of love and happiness. Also I can’t wait to learn more about Jay because he was a wonderful addition to this group.
Trigger Warnings: parent with dementia; anxiety and panic attacks; past abusive partner
- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2022Soren is the second book in the Vampire's Mate series. The story this time focused on Soren and Gabe who were both supporting characters in the previous book, Roman.
From the moment these two met, you know that they'd end up together. The tension and chemistry that they had was just really out there. Like in Roman, we have the fated mates trope here. It was interesting to read the dynamics between these two and how their relationship developed. Both were so different in personalities one would think they'd be more clashes, but surprisingly they got along pretty well.
Soren was such a delight. He's snarky, bratty, sweet and utterly comfortable with who he is and oh so vulnerable. His refusal to initially admit his feelings for Gabe and the need to always leave and not stay in one place made so much sense after we learn more about Soren's past.
I didn't initially liked Gabe, but this story redeemed him in my eyes. Seeing his own burdens to carry, the overwhelming emotions he's having a hard time to process and the way he tried repair his relationships added so much layer and character development.
Overall, Soren was a fun, wonderfully paced paranormal romance with delightful characters and a well-earned HEA. I do recommend giving this book series a read starting with Roman.
This would be 4.25 stars out of 5 stars.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2025First time I tried this novel it was a DNF. However, I’m delighted to have tried it again & reached the ending. Soren’s contrariness & brattiness was both difficult for me, & quite delightful. & I absolutely adored Soren’s resourcefulness, how he resolved his not-so-little issue of a problematic vampire. The balance found in Soren & Gabe’s relationship was really comfortable & good. I actually liked this book better than the first one!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2024I really felt the chemistry between these two, with just enough angst to make it feel more real. I wish is had taken a bit more for Gabe to give in to his pull to Soren but overall their relationship was perfect. They fit so well together and I loved how the conflict of the story concluded. It wasn't a "damsel in distress" type ending and I was so happy about that. Their spicy bits were great and not over done in a ridiculous manner. It was a sweet MM romance and I love how other characters are slowly coming into this universe.
My biggest problem with this series so far is its all third person which, for me, creates a distance between the reader and the character, their story. I feel like it would have had s greater impact if it had been written in first person, especially with the dual POVs alternating within the book.
A few mild potential triggers, nothing severely graphic in my opinion, and lots of sweet spice. 18+ and I guess I'll keep going with this series for now. We'll see if the author continues to hold my interest.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2025Another great read by Grae! I absolutely love Soren! He's hilariously cocky! All the characters were delightful, but Soren was just perfection! As with the first book, there was some further editing that could be done, but overall, it was an enjoyable read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this one
Soren, Soren, Soren....oh how I adored him! His obvious pursuit of Gabe was very endearing. And the way he supported Gabe when he needed it most - my heart, how gorgeous. He has such a big heart especially towards those he cares about.
And Gabe, he tried so hard to ignore his attraction to Soren. He was tentative at first - still a little unsure after the events in book 1. He just needed to see Soren as Soren and not as a monster. Gabes actions in this book had me wanting to scream with excitement at times!!!!
Both books in this series so far have been great. Roman is a true gentleman of a vampire - which I adored - but Soren with his playful attitude and compassion - has my heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute little couple
I've never thought I would give in to Gabriel, the King, but... I guess I can now see Soren's reasons for falling in love?

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Gabe and Soren!
I already read “Soren” and I loved the characters and their story. So, this was my first audiobook for the series but the narrator really embodied the characters, especially Gabe. I was more sceptic with Soren’s interpretation at the beginning, I thought it lacked Soren’s confidence, but after a few chapters, I began to appreciate the subtilty and the smoothness of his tone. Michael Ferraiuolo did an overall amazing job for this book. It definitely makes me want to listen to “Roman”.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gabe and Soren
Just as good as the first. I love Sorens character and Gabes they were so perfect for each other once Gabe let himself feel. Who knew Soren had a past worse then Roman.

5.0 out of 5 stars 🖤🧛 Soren and Gabe 🧛🖤
I loved Soren and Gabe too.
They were so amazing together. The way they just fit with each other was everything.
I must admit that I was in the fence with Gabe cause he needed a full year to come to terms with the fact that vampires are a thing so I was worried. I was glad that he’s adaptable after knowing Soren and how much he let himself just be himself.
Soren had a sad and abusive past and I was very surprised by it. Who would thought that Soren from Roman’s book would’ve been through what he did but he is so precious and he’s the most cute brat I’ve seen in awhile.
Sexy times were again so good! I Loved how they change during it. 🥵🫠🫠🫦
Love them both dearly and now I can’t wait for Lucien. I kinda forgave what Lucien did so now after seeing him in the bonus where he smells cinnamon, im super excited!
Also Yay for Jay’s book please and thank you! He is so precious, cute and adorable. Im also super excited for his book.
