This is a very nice collection of vignettes celebrating *Earth's* Space Program an where we might be today or in a few years if things had happened just a little differently. It is a very enjoyable read. Well researched, and informative as well as imaginative and entertaining.

Very good reading, make one wonder why NASA was scare to venture out and grow caution and explore space, the moon along with an orbital space station. The just shot them self in the foot.

The book was relatively interesting; but from the author's other books, I thought it was going to be fiction. Devoting a chapter solely to the Venus mission was a little disappointing; a Mars mission was much more likely and was indicative of a long held fascination with Mars and likely would have held the possibility of a better science return.

It does present a reasonable less expensive counterpart to David Shaylor's Apollo: THe lost and Forgotten Missions.

This book serves as a good introduction to what might have been and does provide a good bibliography for further study by those who are interested in it.

Found the book interesting with the history of mission and what could have been. Anyone with a interest on this matter should read it.

I am huge fan of the manned space program and found this book to be informative and very well researched. Richard Tongue does a great job presenting "what if" scenarios based on facts presented from early plans of the manned space program. This is not Sci Fi, this is a book based on facts that would have been had the manned space program not veered from original plans set forth. I highly recommend it.

An interesting summary of several US and Soviet Cold-War space projects that were studied but never materialized: Soviet manned Moon missions, a US manned Venus flyby, etc. I enjoyed the book, though it was a bit too short to my liking. Also there was too much speculation on what astronauts would have been selected for the three cancelled Apollo Moon missions; after all I am more into the tech angles than Deke Slayton's office politics.

Great book. Excellent concise summary of the events and decisions which created the spaceflight history that we know. Equally interesting speculation about how it all might have unfolded differently.

I thought the book did a good job of exploring some of the possibilities for manned space exploration in the immediate post Apollo era.
