Sparkling Like Snow: Heartwarming holiday fiction with a sprinkle of winter magic. (Coming Back to Cornwall Book 8) Kindle Edition
"It's such an engrossing read that captures the imagination, which is so typical of all of Katharine's novels. Very well written and thought out."
Christmas is coming, and the goose is not the only thing feeling a little heavier than it used to be.
Alongside the countdown to the festivities, and one of the busiest times of the year, Alice is now well into her second pregnancy, and ticking off the days until she can finally stop work for a little while, and prepare to welcome her baby into the world.
While two-year-old Ben is dreaming of a white Christmas, Alice is floored by the news from her midwife that she is not as well as she might be. Her nerves are set further on edge by a trip to a hidden cove with Lizzie, where she learns the story of a young woman whose baby was lost at sea, and whose ghost is now said to haunt the sands. With some unsettling dreams, and strange goings-on at home and at work, Alice begins to fear for her health and her sanity. Is she being targeted by some unseen force, or might she actually be losing her mind?
Using Sam’s rational nature to help keep calm, Alice resolves to make this a Christmas to remember. This much is guaranteed, but possibly not in quite the ways she’d imagined.
Book Eight of the Coming Back to Cornwall series, Sparkling Like Snow is a Christmas cracker of a book that will have you longing for a crackling fire and a glass of mulled wine, whatever the time of year.

Original, refreshing writing set against the backdrop of the Cornish coast
Katharine E. Smith has a growing fanbase of readers who love her people, places and plotlines.
Escape for a while, into the utterly uplifting, unforgettable Coming Back to Cornwall series.
"I just can't speak highly enough of these books. What seems like a straightforward love story becomes something so much deeper. With people and places I feel like I know and love, I don't want this series to ever end."
Alice is going back to Cornwall, against her better judgement, but when her best friend Julie suggested it, something stirred inside her. The idea slowly wormed its way into her head...
... along with a whole lot of what ifs:
What if she goes back down there and it’s not as good as she remembers?
What if she goes back down there and it is just as good as she remembers?
What if she see Sam?
What if he sees her?
What if he doesn’t remember her?
What if he does?
What if they go, and everything falls apart?
But what if it doesn’t?
There's only one way to find out.
The eight-book series follows Alice and Julie as they try to make a life by the coast, where old jobs, old friends and old flames await them. But will the charm fade away when the summer sun sets and darker days creep in?
An eight-book series to capture your attention and imagination
- Characters who feel like friends
- Places you will long to visit
- Storylines to keep you guessing
- Fun, funny and down-to-earth
- More than a little romantic...
- ... but far more than your average romance series

"these books really helped me through some difficult times"

About the authors
I was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, in 1977 so I'm a fine vintage. I have lived in Leeds, Doncaster, Birmingham, Bristol, Harrogate, Hull, Bristol (again) and currently reside in Shropshire. I feel very ungrateful to say I would really like to live in Cornwall, but it is a long-held dream of mine and nothing personal against Shropshire, which is lovely. It is, however, distinctly lacking in sea.
So at the moment I write about Cornwall instead, and I always find a lot of inspiration, whenever I visit.
My books include the now nine-book Coming Back to Cornwall series (which was originally meant to be a trilogy), three standalone novels (Writing the Town Read, Looking Past and Amongst Friends - this last one set in Bristol, a city I love dearly and where I lived for ten years). I have also embarked on a whole new series, called Connections, which is very different to Coming Back to Cornwall, and have to date published book one (Elise) and book two (Maggie). I like the challenge of writing different genres and trying new things with my writing.
In my past I've worked in the IT and charity sectors, in sales and project management, but it never felt quite right to me. When I had my daughter, I was made redundant from my job with an animal charity, and this spurred me on to do what I really love, working with words. My freelance editing and proofreading grew into Heddon Publishing, where I enjoy working with a great array of authors all over the world. I've been delighted to see some success with my own books over recent years, but still love the work I do with other writers. It's a lovely world to work in.
I have two children, a husband, and a border collie. I love living here but look forward to the day I can update my bio to say 'I live in Cornwall'. For the time being, I'll just have to keep on writing about it...

Hello!
After graduating with my Illustration degree from Falmouth College of Arts in Cornwall in 2004, I began my career as a graphic designer for a local printing company, designing posters, leaflets, business cards and suchlike. I went on to work for Redan Publishing, designing top children's magazine's such as 'Friends', 'Peppa Pig', and 'Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom'.
I married my amazingly talented husband (please check out his website: www.guyclarkephotography.com) and having two wonderful children, my design career took a secondary role for a while as I worked as a teaching assistant, which was perfect for fitting in with family life. However, I was still working in the evenings to keep my hand in with design work, becoming the designer of The Hounslow Herald, The Chiswick Herald, Chiswick Magazine and Viestra Magazine and I still work on these publications today.
During this time, I also met Katharine E. Smith - an independent author, founder of Heddon Publishing, and mother of two of my children's friends! Having seen my design and illustration work, she asked if I would be interested in working on book cover designs, beginning with redesigning the cover of her first book, Writing the Town Read. Of course I said yes and haven't looked back. Since that first book design I've designed all of Katharine's book covers, and many more, for a wide range of authors from across the globe, in a huge range of genres.
I love working with different people and different ideas. As a self-employed individual, who has worked with many indie authors over the years, I understand the challenges and the importance of getting the right cover, at the right price.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2021Katharine E. Smith is a writer's writer. As an author myself, I appreciate good writing, and her books have that in spades. The plot moves quickly, there is suspense, and charming, well developed characters. Sparkling Like Snow is part of a series set in Cornwall, England. It isn't your typical snowflakes and glitter, fall in love Christmas Story. It tells the story of a woman with a lot of responsibility which includes a child and one on its way; of friendship and a little mystery. I know you will enjoy it. Be sure to read her new series Connections - book one is called Elise. It's an uplifting and intriguing book, set in a small town in Cornwall.
