  Spider is a full-length stand-alone loosely based on a short story I wrote in 2013. This short story (just a few chapters) appeared briefly in two anthologies but is currently unavailable for purchase.  
There's no need to read that short story since it's part of the beginning of this book, Spider.
 
Flawed, broken, and utterly gorgeous, Spider's been talking with a British accent in my head since 2013.

I have recently been introduced to this very talented author. After finishing Filthy English and realizing Spider was as getting his own book I may have screamed, just a little. You meet Spider very briefly in Filthy English, you learn very early on he’s in a very successful band and has many, many, demons. Spider gosh there are so many things to say about this intoxicating man. Band. Sexy. Demons. British. Troubled. Lost. Tattoos. Did I say sexy?! Those are just a few things to think about when picking this book up. The writing as always, is instantly addicting. The way this author blends these two characters who have lived such different lives, but ultimately fate is what intwines them from the get go and she won’t let go. This very forbidden love story goes back years. Fate has these to by the neck and they don’t even know it. ILSA is a one stop, cant do anything but gasp, and sigh, and hate the things she puts you through. But by the end, she creates meaningful love stories. I️ have fallen in love with all things ILSA Madden Mills and I don’t want to ever stop. I loved every minute of Spider.

    Oh Spider. After meeting you in Very Wicked Things, I knew I was going to love you. There was something about you and I knew you had a story to tell. Thank goodness Ilsa Madden-Mills recognized that your story was going to be one hot and wicked and fate filled trip for us fans.
    This story is told in dual POV and in chronological order starting from some time ago and then skipping a few years ahead for the majority of the book and even more toward the last 3/4 of it. Rose and Spider are two very different people but whose souls have connected at a very difficult time in their lives. Rose's life started out not so pretty but she met a boy who left a permanent mark on who she would become in life. She would fight and become better than what surrounded her. She would be strong and take the most out of life.
    But what happens when you get on a plane and meet a man so all encompassing that you would be willing to let it all go? A beautiful bad boy that is so charismatic and has every woman falling at his feet?
    "It's the heart that always knows, and mine does."
    But there is a twist and there are demons that will be uncovered. For both characters. Some demons eat at people and cause them to turn toward things that are not good for them and some demons make you fight and be a better person. That is who we have in Spider and Rose. But there is a pull with them that can't be touched. And Spider knows that is something that could be life altering for both of them. So what do you do when you know you are bad for someone that is so genuinely good? You protect them from your bad decisions even though they should be able to make their own decisions themselves.

    Their journey and their fight to find their happiness was compared to Jane Eyre. I love when authors do that and make their story more current for us. A hot, rich rock star and a girl from the wrong side of the tracks brought in to the "rich" fold but always looking from the outside in with her world. I love Spider and his journey and fight for what he figured out was worth living for. HE had to figure it out on his own and once he did? Beautiful!
    "I want to be his everything. I want him to be consumed with me. I want to be the person who keeps him on the straight and narrow. I want him to not be able to get out of f.. bed unless I'm next to him. I want him to crumble if I walk away. I want him to love me forever. I say those things to him as tears run down my face."
    Ilsa, thank you for taking the chance on Spider's short story and making a full novel out of it. He was worth it and so was Rose. Their story was beautiful and a journey that they needed to take. It took awhile to get there, but it was so full of different feelings throughout. At some point they made you laugh, some made you want to hit certain characters and other times you could feel the chemistry come right through the pages. I swear my kindle could see it and would burn right into flames. And it was all worth it!

    “I left you to let you breathe.”

    I love Ilsa Madden-Mills writing an I always know I’m going to get an addictive and heart-warming read and Spider was no different. This book was all about fate, a second chance romance with a little stepbrother thrown in that will have you experiencing the warm and fuzzies but not before you get put through the wringer first. First appearances can be deceptive, you can hide behind invisible walls that you erect, but underneath, the heart will always shine through and this book was full of it.

    “Is this what love songs are written about? I want to scream at the top of my lungs. I want to beat my hands on the ground. I want to throw up. I realize that people always leave, even the ones you love the most. They weasel into your life and then slink away as if nothing happened. They leave in you in the wake of their destruction and gamble your heart to pursue their own ambitions. I know what I have to do. I’ll never let him near my heart again.”

    Rose hadn’t had the best start in life. Aged eleven she ran away from her trailer and her poor excuse of a mother in fear of her life. In just a nightie she battled the elements, until a teenaged boy came to her rescue and gave her money for food, even though he seemed to be far from trust-worthy. Fast forward to the present and Rose is about to visit her adopted mum and her new husband. Boarding a plane, it seems fate is playing with her again as the tattooed, teenaged boy that once saved her, is sitting right next to her and their worlds collide once again…and he is all man.

    Spider is a musician, who gave up the life his father wanted him to have to live the life he dreamed of. He was incredibly rebellious and wasn’t the son his father wanted. His father was embarrassed by his antics, but underneath that bad boy persona was a man with a heart of gold. Sitting next to the intriguing young woman on the plane he has no idea their paths had once crossed. He comes to her aide in her time of need as he makes her forget her fear of flying. These two talk, they laugh, they joke, easy conversation and they share a kiss and then they go their separate ways, but are they destined to meet again?

    This book was all about love, a love that was frowned upon by others but meant the world to the two-people enveloped in its fierceness. It was all about sacrifice, showing people that you can change given the right incentive and also that the heart wants who the heart wants, no matter the obstacles. This was one of those books that has you frantically turning the pages in hope that the characters get the happy ever after they deserve, it doesn’t come easy. The curveballs keep coming, but I was always hoping that love won in the end. Great story from Ilsa Madden-Mills.

    A well deserved 5 stars. Love reading Ilsas' books. Loved the storyline and angst of Spider and Rose's relationship, it was so hot. It wasn't dark and I'm glad of that. I just wanted to hug Spider 😜 (new BFF for me) he was just........ Yum! Rose was strong and I loved her character too. Brilliant writing and brilliant read.

    To say I've been chomping at the bit for Spider's story since Filthy English is an understatement. When I seen I was soon going to get my hands on him, I was beyond ecstatic!!

    I could not be any more happy with this book than I am. It was pure bliss to read this story. It just worked so well. The story flowed seamlessly, the characters were so well developed, there were no gaps in the storyline, when it got hot it was like hades!! It was just PERFECT!!

    Spider has one major rule when it comes to women, never involve the heart.

    "Live fast and collect no hearts is my mantra."

    Then he meets a girl on a plane & he cannot deny the connection. It's instant, it's consuming but he'll never see her again so a kiss won't hurt. But that kiss!! A kiss they won't forget, a kiss they'll want to forget when they discover they are stepbrother & sister.

    "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it."

    Beside being a stepbrother book it's also a second chance. Now I'm not going to delve into the details of their first meeting but I will say the beginning of this book really sets the stage & the circumstances around the first time they meet will pull at your heartstrings.

    The author does not leave us hanging with this one We get the full story & a glimpse into their lives after the HEA.

    I don't know if it's what I was looking for when I started the book but then again I couldn't help but being hooked. It's so different from what I read from Ilsa before yet she manages to keep the magic. This is an epic love story, if you're looking for steam and sexy, you won't find much however.

    Spoiler:

    I don't know how I feel about Rose, the way she goes all in, the way she throws herself at him, the way she forgives, the way she treats her boyfriend, the way she's ready to sacrifice everything. I would have preferred for her to give Spider a harder time when he got back. Yet, somehow I couldn't manage to really loathe her or dislike her.

    As of Spider, he's the bad boy we love to hate and save and redeem. I would have loved to see more of his cheery self, humour, banter and more of his relationship with Sebastian with Rose in the picture.

    All in all, yes I enjoyed myself and questioned myself and lost myself. Isn't that the whole point?

    Wow! This book blew me away. Talk about emotional rollercoaster! Fate has a funny way of working at times. An accidental meeting when they were 11 and 16, Rose and Spider had an instant connection which they couldn't explain. Fast forward 6 years and another chance encounter on a plane sees that connection rekindled. What they didn't realise is that they're now step-siblings. Spider is also on a path of self destruction - drugs, alcohol and women are his vices. Rose is still innocent and naive, and after a long discussion with his Father, he realises he needs to push Rose away and not drag her down with him. But fate isn't done! Several years later they cross paths again, Spider is now clean but will Rose be able to look past the hurt and heartbreak he caused her all those years ago? The characters are so well written, I couldn't help but be drawn in. Rose grew from that naive high-school girl into a strong and independent woman, which was great to see. Loved the epilogue as well. Highly recommend this book.

    Schon in "Filthy English" machte Spider als Nebenfigur Lust auf mehr - und hier kommt sie nun, seine Geschichte! Seine Entwicklung in diesem Buch ist bemerkenswert ohne "flach" zu sein + er beeindruckt mit seiner Güte und Selbstlosigkeit, auch wenn es erstmal gar nicht danach aussieht...
    Tiefe Gefühle, eine besondere Verbindung, die weit in die Vergangenheit zurückgeht - die Lovestory von Spider und Rose ist wirklich wunderschön und hochemotional. Ein kleiner Stern Abzug, weil die Storyline um Trenton für mich nicht wirklich befriedigend gelöst wurde + eigentlich nicht wirklich zu Rose passt...
