About the author

Simon was born in Cardiff, South Wales, UK, in 1968.
When he's not busy with his day job as a lawyer, he is the author of Action-Adventure-thriller novels, predominantly the Robert Spire Action Thrillers, which all have an ecological, historical, science-fiction mystery cataclysmic theme. Think James Bond mixed with Indiana Jones and a bit of environmental / historical facts thrown in for good measure...
Favorite authors include - Ed McBain, James Patterson, Lee Child, Lincoln Child, Douglas Preston, Patrick Lee, Michael Grumley, A G Riddle and Clive Cussler.
Favorite movies - Good The Bad and The Ugly, Jaws, Deliverance, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, It's A Wonderful Life, Scarface, Play Misty For Me, Electra-Glide In Blue, The Abyss, Deliverance, Contact, Alien, Predator, Interstellar, The Thing and many others.
Previous Books - THE A-Z OF GLOBAL WARMING - updated 2012 edition, and the Robert Spire Eco-terrorism action-thrillers TIPPING POINT, IMPACT POINT, MELT ZONE, CATACLYSM OF THE ANCIENTS, CRYPTO, and the GALILEO PROJECT SciFi UFO Conspiracy thrillers 1-3. The author is now working oon Spire 9 - THE VANISHED.
The author has also written Sci-fi thrillers, VAPORIZED I AND II and SALIENT, together with stand alone espionage adventure thriller, RED MIST.
All books available in Audiobook and Kindle/ebook format.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2013These two novels - which follow each other and come before 'Melt Zone' - are two exciting adventures involving environmental lawyer and general kick-ass adventurer, Robert Spire. Sure, it is all a bit far-fetched, but you will find both novels difficult to put down! All of these novels have a bit of an environmental theme, but don't let that put you off! The novels move along nicely, are a bit corny in places, but present a pretty exciting read. If you like a bit of adventure, and can suspend logic for a while, these are great books. Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2014These are 2 pretty good stories involving some hard science fiction, which is a rare treat these days. Even if Blankoplankton is fictitious, it gives a great sense of something that scientists might use to expand their thinking on the issues.
The problem I had with these stories is that as an intense reader, I get tripped up over typos, errors in grammar, auto-correct, logic flaws, inconsistencies, bad geography and so on. I have noticed with the recent declines in the publishing business that there is less editorial control and less editing/proof-reading these days. In the old days, it was hard to find a flaw, nowadays, most books have up to a half dozen. For these stories, I gave up counting when I got to over 100 flaws.
Since I like the stories and want to encourage the author to write more, I offer the following example issues in the hopes that future works may be proofread prior to publication against these types of distractions:
-When creating a fictitious town, make sure it doesn't actually exist, Or if using a real town. place it correctly. In this case, Oakdale, Wales is not 5 minutes, 2 miles or a stones throw from Manorbier Beach, Wales. They are closer to 100 miles apart.
-The water you come in on when landing in San Francisco is the San Francisco Bay, not the Pacific Ocean. It is unlikely that you would make a right-hand turn over the Golden Gate Bridge when flying in from London, as that would have you crossing over landing paths. There are 3 major and at least 4 regional airports within 50 miles, so traffic flow is critical.
-When taking a connecting flight from London to Myrtle Beach via New York, you will clear customs in New York, not Myrtle Beach.
-Dr. Rivea flies from San Diego to meet up with Spire in the Bahamas. In planning the trip however, it accidentally states that Spire is going to San Diego (loc 11693). But on the next pages, he ends up in the Bahamas as expected.
-A waitress at a bar has "...toned legs protruding from a short black shirt...". Perhaps a skirt???
-In one case a "he said" was inside the quotes. Unfortunately, Kindle tools don't make it easy to search the specific case. So an example might be "John just went to the store, he said." instead of "John just went to the store," he said.
-Many random capitalized words in the middle of sentence.
-You-Tube is correctly referenced in the book, but other references are to U-Tube, almost as if speech-to-text was used to write the book. I Googled U-Tube, just in case, but nothing relevant comes up.
-We have good references to Silicon Valley, but it is also referenced as Silicone Valley, and no, it did not seem to be a barb against Hollywood.
-Most writers strive to not use the same (last) name for different characters, unless they are related. In this case, the name Mathew and especially Mathews are used with abandon, apparently none of them related. We have a Mathew White, Vernon Mathews (who becomes Winston Mathews on the next pages), Oliver Mathews, Casey Mathews, and last but not least, Joseph Mathews.
-Some words ("FOLLOWED") are in all caps, but no emphasis seems to be intended.
-Please expand all acronyms on first use, this is standard practice. It wouldn't be hard to tell us that a BCD is a Buoyancy Control Device. I did not have internet access when I read this, and it did not show a context-appropriate definition in Kindle-loaded dictionaries.
-Don't add redundant words to acronyms. A BCD Device would be a Buoyancy Control Device Device? People do this all the time with "ATM Machine".
-As with the name Mathews, its seems that 9 out of 10 or more descriptions of things have cream or beige -colored walls, carpets, dagger-like objects, marble, chairs, etc. Mix it up! Add some color!
-When a courier delivers a package, they get a signature from the recipient, the courier does not sign for it as that can lead to fraud.
-The CD is delivered on January 11th. Later on it states that it was delivered at four-twenty, with a 24-hour limit to publish the results. OK. Chapter 63, which is also dated January 11th, at 6PM, states that the package was delivered yesterday(!). Strike 1. Chapter 65, 7PM on January 11th (an hour after the initial meeting), states that the package was delivered at five-forty yesterday. Strike 2. In the same context, it says they have another 6 hours to decide what to do, but 6 hours after 4:20 or 5:40 cannot be 24 hours after original receipt whether it is the 11th or 12th at 4:20 or 5:40. Strike 3.
-While a bit incredulous overall in terms of Spire's morphing into James Bond, the shark was jumped when he single handily decided to invade the Russian ex-war ship. How likely is it that 6 astrophysicists have the wherewithal to become robbers, killers, kidnappers, etc.? How easy would it be for an average person to obtain chloroform? When using these imagination-stretching mechanisms, more background detail is required to explain how this is possible. Or as famously quoted "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof".
-The latest Kindle software update caused me to lose dozens and dozens of other issues saved in My Clippings file. One key generality is to make sure that that the tense of a verb matches the context. There were several of these issues, likely due to auto-correct or a change in one part of a sentence without a corresponding change in a related part. An example, not in the book, might be "I've gotta get go now." (Perhaps adding the word "get" without changing "go" to "going").
-Scuba divers use an vibration-based alarm to warn them of their 1/3 or other oxygen use. Needs a different pretext to kill some of them, such as a strong underwater cave current they can't fight. For all divers to not know until half+ of their oxygen is used is unlikely.
Please keep up the great stories & please find a proofreader to help make it more enjoyable!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2015I really enjoyed these books. Environmementally relevant, action, adventure, some romance and well written. What more can you ask for! Anxiously awaiting the next Robert Spire adventure.
I have to say this was the first time I ever sent an email to the author to tell him how much I enjoyed these- he made it easy as he provided his email at the end

- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2014Good, but, too, many commas. Way, too many. Worth the, read without a, doubt. Spires has many adventures and always saves the day.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2015Fast paced, engaging characters, and a good ending. I really enjoyed this thrilling book set that kept me on the edge of my seat.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2014I found myself looking for it all to make sense to me so I could connect the dots. I suppose the scientific content was just beyond what I could discern. The whole Spire carrying the story and saving the world drove the proverbial nail in the coffin for me. Sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good yarns well worth reading
I enjoyed both these stories and have no hesitation in recommending them to other readers. Robert Spire is an interesting character with a lot of human foibles.
I look forward to the next episode

Good author, well written and researched.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tipping Point and Impact Point
This book contains many good ideas, but is badly let down by poor proof reading, e.g. decent for descent, which a spell checker will not notice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spire draws attention.
Robert Spire is an intelligent, active lawyer who involves himself with eco-cases. He also seems fated to get involved in dangerous enterprises, with sometimes tragic consequences. Keeping the planet going seems more dangerous than you would think. These stories speed along quite well, and are fact filled as far as the science is concerned. The reader's attention is held throughout the book, and the endings of the two stories are eminently credible and satisfying, if a little sad. one to read.
