Spooked. (1) Hardcover – September 1, 2018
"A supernatural tale with a strong, engaging protagonist." - KIRKUS REVIEWS
"So she was a ghost. She was still my best friend."
Callie McCayter thought enrolling at a small liberal arts college in picturesque Astoria, Oregon with her childhood best friend Izzy Miller would give her a fresh start. It's everything Callie has always wanted: new school, new life, but never a new best friend. Then one night, Izzy dies on her way back to campus in a hit-and-run. Callie, almost mad with grief, can barely leave her room. She feels haunted by Izzy's ghost...and determined to hunt down whoever is responsible for Izzy's death and make them pay. But as Callie begins to dig deeper into Izzy's life and the lives of those around them, she finds it harder and harder to separate the friends from the enemies, the lies from the truth. Will Callie find out what really happened to Izzy? Or will the line between what is real and what isn't become so blurred that Callie loses herself in the process?
SPOOKED. is the first book in a New Adult noir series that reads like an episode of VERONICA MARS with a supernatural edge.

PRAISE FOR SPOOKED.
"In Rosengard's new-adult debut novel, a college student searches for the person responsible for her best friend's death--with a little help from a familiar ghost.[...] [T]he author's grasp of Callie's first-person voice is sensational: The teenager endlessly debates with herself and harps on her own shortcomings, such as her tendency to distance herself from potential friends and romantic interests. She does acknowledge and work on overcoming her weaknesses, though--and readers will definitely see her virtues even when she doesn't." - KIRKUS REVIEWS

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2023I loved this book. I want to be friends with Callie, that’s how real she is. I started Spooked thinking it was one kind of book and it was totally something différent. This is my favorite kind of book. Very well-written. I highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2018I loved reading Spooked! I would have devoured it in one day but I was thwarted by being at work (luckily I can read in my downtime at my job) and having to do work related things (darn adult responsibilities).
I found Callie relatable and I grew to like her more and more as the book progressed. I loved that she understood that it was okay to be sad and upset and angry when something awful happened and that it takes people time to process all those feelings and that different people do so differently. I also liked that she was a strong woman who could defend herself if needed. And Callie's snark! Her comments made me laugh out loud several times.
I was reading the book over the same weekend as a friend and we enjoyed texting each other back and forth with our favorite parts and our suspicions over what had happened to Izzy and who was responsible. And who our favorite potential romantic interest was (I declared my vote early on and we had several fun exchanges about this topic alone).
Rosengard's descriptions and imagery of the Pacific Northwest were beautiful and vivid- they made me homesick for my college campus. I was able to picture the setting in my mind from her words and the world of Astoria College came to life as I read. I was transported back to my time as an undergrad and all the experiences of living on a small campus.
I look forward to learning more about Callie and seeing what other adventures she will experience. Thanks for providing me with a spooky virtual trip back to the gorgeous Pacific Northwest! It was a perfect read for early fall in Texas, which is still hot and muggy but when I was reading Spooked I was transported to the cool, misty, green and grey world of Astoria College.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2018I had to get used to the slightly choppy writing style, but I think it did reflect Callie's personality. Loved all the characters who were each well developed. I kind of got lost about half way through, but I needed to know what was going to happen so I kept reading and I am so glad I did. This turned out to be a fabulous story with an amazing ending. Kudos to the author for wrapping up this story completely and making us want to read more at the same time. Looking forward to the next installment.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2018Loved this book! I read a lot, and this was one of my quickest reads this year--stayed up late to finish, because there were enough twists and mystery to make me want to learn more. The cultural references were on point, Callie's snarkiness was funny, and the setting in Astoria was vivid and made me want to go back to visit!
I'm so excited that this is the first book in a series, because I want to learn more about Callie and the people (or spirits!) in her world.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2018This book was engaging and dramatic from the start to finish, and had me on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait for the next one to come out so I can continue the adventures of Callie and her awesome supernatural world.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2019Great first book, looking forward to the next one
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2019I can’t wait for the second one to come out! This was a great read and I loved the plot!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2021I purchased this book at a little shop in Oregon. This made it so much more special. The author did a great job at making the main character, Callie, a person who is totally relatable. If you enjoy suspense this definitely has it. I found myself grabbing for it even when I had more pressing tasks. A truly great ending.
