This book would make an excellent Sci Fi movie! It would have to be done like Paddington and Winnie the Pooh. All the way through the book, I kept thinking what a great movie this series would make. Yes this book is that good!
The crew and Jelly went through a warm hole, they think that is what happened and found Pink Sympathy. Reading this book was like watching Alfred Hitchcock's, Twilight Zone. It went from real to unreal to is it or isn't it real and back again. The crew learned of traitors on board and had to deal with them or not to deal with them and let a very special collar around their neck take care of them. They learned about being human verses being an Androgyne. Jelly went through many changes that shocked the crew and figured out what Shanta is from Jelly trying to say it over and over again.
There are space creatures that in my mind look something like an octopus, but pink. There is a virus that is following them and you cry pink or bleed pink, cool! I kept thinking purple people eater, lol. You see, good Sci Fi movie!
But I have to say the cliffhanger is the best! It left my mouth open and saying "Whaaaaaaat? No Way!" OMG, I need the next book and fast! This book is full of surprises, jaw dropping surprises, loads of action, stabbing in the back, mystery and edge of your seat what's next.
Yup! Would make a great movie!

I went into reading the first book suspecting that it would be juvenile. Not juvenile in the sophomoric sense, but in the sense that it is intended for a young audience. After finishing two books of the trilogy, I'm still not sure about that. A story about a cat that goes into space just *sounds* like a teen or pre-teen book. I may be reacting to the first part of the first book coming from Jamie's point of view. The book's wholesome nature adds to this -- there's no sex or even romance, and one character even objects to another's quite mild expletive. However, the vocabulary suggests a much more mature audience. There's also a good bit of violence, with futuristic weapons pulverizing people and monsters. There is also one character who actually delights in violence. Come to think of it, that could go either way. The complexity of the plot, however, is definitely more adult oriented.

Speaking of the plot... parallels abound to Arthur C. Clarke's "2010: Odyssey Two" (the sequel to "2001: A Space Odyssey," written after the film became a classic). This story gets into the same weird, cerebral craziness. Several characters predict that "something fantastic" is about to happen, echoing Dave Bowman telling Heywood Floyd that "Something's going to happen. Something wonderful!" I'm going to be profoundly disappointed in Mr. Mackay if Saturn turns into a second sun in the third book.

The shifting around of point of view seems a bit klunky to me. First, we're getting the story through a five-year-old. Maybe not in first person narrative, but definitely from his point of view. This continues for a significant number of chapters. Then, we suddenly switch to various adults with no particular pattern other than who is most convenient for that portion of the narrative. I'm not sure why this feels so awkward, but it does.

One of those adults is named Tripp. I'm having some trouble with that name, because I associate it with Tripp Halsted, the little boy who had his head crushed by a falling tree branch. So, when I picture the character, he's very short with a profound dent in his skull. I admit this wouldn't be a problem for most readers, though.

Overall, I'm enjoying the series, even though it's a trifle predictable. It has some strong characters and imaginative ideas about the future. I have rated it as if it is intended for adults. If it is actually for a younger audience, I would add another star.

In the previous book Jelly had taken them through what they believed to be a wormhole into a new universe or galaxy. She passed out when this happened with everyone else already asleep. She woke up and proceeded to wake up Tripp was in the control room with her as they started down to the lower levels Bonnie is the first one they found up she doesn't know who Tripp is where she's at and she has a gun she's pointing at Tripps head as he was trying to tell her who she is and she decides to commit suicide so she can go home Tripp launches towards her to stop her when there's a zap and the gun flew from her hand bullet flew out from the barrel and missed her head. Jaycee had shot the gun out of her hand. And they took her to get regenerated because they discovered that she was an android Jaycee hit her on the head and took her to the chamber where she could be recharged. They go down to Medix where they found Wool laid unconscious across Jelly's bed. They also discovered Haloo Ess body she had died before going through the wormhole. While they were with Wool Jaycee went to get Tor and Baldron. When everyone was together Tripp told them that Manuel was not working right and Tor needed to fix him. To find out what happens next and whether the two Russians live or die and what happens with Jelly and the rest of the crew of Opera Beta you have to read the book. It's a good book and you should read it after you read Star Cat One...

Well this one was just as fast paced as the first book. Jelly is certainly earning her claws & some of the plot twists I never saw coming! Keep up the great work you're doing Andrew as I absolutely love it.

So did not notice typos in this one. Much better editing. Will have to say this series is SI-FI/Fantasy not SI-FI as originally described in beginning. Definitely recommend this series, and fun and enjoyable read.

This story has me hooked. I was extremely anxious reading book 1 but it seems to have settled a little during this book. The story is outrageously addictive. I only continued reading because I love cats. But I am going to jump into book 3 now. Gosh I hope my health and well being don't suffer.

Big disappointment. Book 1, Infinity Claws, was really good and encouraged me to get this sequel. True, book 2 has its big moments; if it were a movie, you would say the special effects were good, the story line not so much. The real big problem with it is that by the end of the book the number of characters left with whom you can empathise is precisely zero. Oh and (spoiler alert!) the cat who is supposed to be the centre of all your attention is no longer a cat.

The story gets better! This series is so different from anything else I have read. So many twists and turns, leaving more to find out in book 3. I can't wait!
