Stellar (The Portal Connection Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 429 ratings

Being revealed as a Portal was like finding out you had the plague.

Nobody wanted to be anywhere near you, especially if you were as strong as Jacinta was proving to be. As if she didn’t have enough things on her plate already.

Raised by a cult, malnourished and ripped from the first place she'd ever felt safe, Jacinta's world had been turned on its head.

To make matters worse, there was the Pure Human movement who saw all Portals as mutants who should be destroyed. At least her protective detail was on her side. They weren’t friends, but they seemed to have her best interests at heart.

As for the rest? Well, who knew if she'd live long enough to even think about it.

Jacinta was in a race against time to manage her ability before it tore her apart - mind, body and soul. Could her team protect her from not only the unseen dangers around her, but from her own ability?

This is a slow burn series where the female lead will have more than one love interest and will not be required to choose.

Stellar is a book, packed with action and tension and contains scenes that may cause distress to some readers, including but not limited to gun violence, assault and mentions of severe family dysfunction. This book is not suitable for readers under the age of 18 years

What reviewers are saying:
"I loved this book so hard. The characters were well developed and engaging. There's enough action and mystery to choke a cow. I have so many questions that I need answered. I'll just crawl under the cover of my bed and wait for the next book." - Helle Gade, http://hellegade.com

Hi, I'm Jade Thorn,

I'm a stay at home mother of 3 gorgeous wee monsters. I live in Australia with them, their Daddy, our pup, Smudge, and our pet fish.

I've been writing forever it seems. I had a passion for it as young as 9, but it never occured to me that others would like my little stories. I have oodles and oodles of half written pieces and slowly but surely I'm sharing them with you.

I'm finally doing what I've always dreamed of, and it's even better than I imagined. I do hope you enjoy reading my stories as much as I enjoy writing them.

Jade

xoxo

Jacinta’s world is turned upside down the moment testing shows she’s a portal. While portals have powers, not a lot is known about the way those powers work yet. Unfortunately that means the diagnosis is more a curse then a blessing, because portals can become unstable and a risk for others. Will the men assigned to her be able to protect her, and everyone else?

When I read the blurb of this book I didn’t really know what to expect, but this book is absolutely brilliant in my opinion. I love a good slow burn that focusses on plot and a good story line, and this one absolutely delivered. I love the connections between the military guys, the way they find a place for Jacinta between them, but also the intrigue and power struggles within the military. I’m a sucker for lingering questions and secrets, and this book has plenty of those but also just enough flow to stay on the edge of angst and frustration.

I highly recommend reading this start of a series! It’s an amazing slow burn with multiple POV

3.5 Stars- This is my second series by Jade Thorn and I really love her writing. She has an ability to immerse you into such unique worlds. In this book, Jacinta is a Portal. A human being with the ability to go nuclear. The government/military has taken control of Jacinta's life and has harbored her away on military basis to study her and her kind. There's not a lot of knowledge about Portals but some people apart of the Pure Human movement want to eradicate Portals. Due to the threats Jacinta is assigned a permanent protective detail. They protect her from Pure Humans and they protect everyone else from her when she heats up. Jacinta bonds with her protectors and for the first time has friends with people on the base. This is a slow burn RH. You get the feel of which men will be apart of the harem but some of it is still left in the air. There's still a lot to learn about what makes Jacinta a unique Portal.
The only reason this was not 5 stars for me was how the author described and kept making poor references to Hammer's skin. He is a member of the protective detail and who I'm assuming will end up in her harem. He was described as skin so dark it was almost black whereas a biracial character had glowing skin, or something positive like thay. There was also some other references to how dark he was and not in a positive way. As a Black woman, it irked me. I hope the wording changes in future books.

I read a lot really an embarrassing amount actually so finding something that is so completely different and written so well is beyond exciting and made for a great read that was over too quickly.

I wish it was a little longer but other than that no complaints it really was pretty perfect.

I loved that the author didn't throw instant lust/love or $ex into muddy the water with this one, but actually concentrated on developing the characters and plot with just enough attraction and interaction to have you salivating for more.

I can't wait and will be stalking book two hoping it releases early!

For those going in thinking you know what a portal is then get chapters in and find out what everyone understands portals to be in this world for most of the book then bam that ending will leave you stalking book two right along with me!😁

Kudos to the author for delivering such a great book to start the series off with, great job!

Not enough world building. Dont understand why a portal is called a portal or what a portal is. Dont understand why she was given a job off based when she was likely to 'go nuclear'. Dont understand why she was sent there alone after almost being killed multiple times. Makes no sense. The guys seem appealing. mc is ok. Swears a lot. Still want to read the next one to figure out where this is going.

I liked the character development. I gave 4 stars because I would have enjoyed more action and less sexual tension. I enjoyed the tempo of the story, the twists and surprises to the plot helped move the narrative along till peaking in chapter 20 (my opinion). I would have preferred if the entire book had been patterned more along the lines of chapters 20-24. The evolving plot twists in these chapters gave just enough of a hook that I will be reading the next book in the series.

I liked the Jacinta character most of all, but I thought there would be more character development for all of the main characters. It was still a good story. Fast paced, too.

This book takes you on quite a ride! It starts out looking at a rather mundane life of a young woman, kind of like the beginning uphill start to a roller-coaster. And then, bam! Off you go, sliding down and around, with a few corkscrews and loops. Jacinta isn't sure what the h*** is happening to her, needing to place trust in a team assigned to assist her life transition. But they've never had such a powerful protected, or so powerfully drawn to one. You're not meant to know everything before, or as, it occurs. You're on the ride, and what an addictive, enjoyable ride it is!

Interesting set-up and the whole concept is rather unique. Curious to see what the purpose of the power is. Also nice to not know for sure who will be in the harem ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars What an incredible start to a series!
Reviewed in Australia on March 5, 2024
This is only the second of Jade Thorn’s works that I have read and, once again, I was hooked from the start. I knew going in that this was a longer series and would end on cliffhangers, so I wasn’t disappointed or surprised by that ending.

The story of Jacinta and her uniqueness as something both amazing and frightening, is refreshing. I am not sure I’ve read a story quite like this one, and I’ve read a lot.

Jade’s writing sucks you in and you honestly don’t want to get out. I am already craving book two to learn more about Jacinta’s abilities, her team of soldiers who are assigned to protect her and ensure she isn’t exposed to the outside elements when she has an ‘event’.

I want to explain it all but can’t because honestly, I’m still figuring it all out and it’d give the story away, but my goddess, do I want more. So. Much. More.

And there’s just something about Bowie.....

Stellar follows Jacinta as she adjusts to life being a Portal, a human with the ability to give of extreme heat and radiation when they have what is called an ‘event’. Honestly, I wasn’t sure about this book when I started reading it, I had stumbled across it as a recommendation in a group and thought I’d give it a go and I’m glad that I did. I really enjoyed the story and found it quite intriguing, which kept me turning pages to find out what happened next. This book is a good introduction to the world it’s set in and allows you to get to know the characters who are surrounding the FMC. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend giving it a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved the original storyline, definitely a page-turner
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 13, 2021
This is the first book in the series, is a slow burn RH and does end with a cliffhanger.
I loved this story, its something completely different. For me it was definitely a case of 'just one more chapter' which ended up with me finishing the book at 2am!
Jacinta is a portal, which means she pretty much turns into a potential nuclear bomb when she has 'events'. She also emits radiation and extreme heat so she's been added to the government Portal programme, for both her own safety and the public. She even gets her own military protection team.
I loved Jacinta, she was really entertaining to read, full of sarcasm and humour, she didn't let her situation get her down too much, no matter how scared she was. The protection team feel a connection with 'Jack' and are very protective of her, Hammer was super sweet with carrying her places.
I am loving the direction this book seems to be going in and I can't wait to read book 2.
