I'll be there. Through thick and thin. Ride or die. You can count on me.
The promises people make. The vows we take. Assumptions of the heart. Emotion tells us how we feel, but life...life has a way of plunging us in boiling water, burning away our illusions, testing our faith, trying our convictions. Love floating is a butterfly, but love tested is an anchor.
For Grip and Bristol, love started at the top of the world on a Ferris wheel under the stars, but when that love is tested, will they fly or fall?

- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2018Kennedy Ryan was a new-to-me author, and with this series she has carved a special spot in my bookshelves. I finished this series in 4 days- and although I wasn't planning on reading them back-to-back, I could not have stopped even if I wanted to- which I didn't. Not even close.
For lack of a better word, I am floored by this series. Overwhelmed. Emotional. Unable to move on. Although I read a lot- and have some favorite books where I LOVE the characters- this was on a different level. Grip and Bristol. Just.. we should all be lucky to have a love like Grip and Bristol.
This is why I waited to write a review. Even two days later I am still incoherent. Sigh.
So here are just SOME of the things I loved about this series. The writing was flawless. It was just so well written and just so SMARTLY written. This author made us a part of the story. And side note. HIS LYRICS. HOLY CRAP. I just bow down to this author who not only wrote a beautiful book, a beautiful series, but she's also a poet. And that's not the same kind of skill. Bruise is the kind of song that should be real. And his vows. And Still. And his words at THAT moment. And there are just numerous other times where Grip's words play integral parts to the story. And they were so so well written.
And her characters were really well developed. They were not stereotypical. They were not shallow. They were just so very real. Their reactions made sense because they were exactly what people would do in real life. Their thoughts made sense. In a lot of romances the "villain of the story" is another person. This is not a knock on them because who doesn't like to see our hero or heroine rise above "the other person" and be victorious. But it makes the story about someone else in part. But that's not the point of this story- this story is all Grip and Bristol. Always. And I love that so much.
But what I loved the MOST about this book, so much so it deserves its own mention, is the weaving of social commentary throughout the story. Simply put, this book makes you think. In the best of ways. We are all flawed. We all have biases. We are all naive to others struggles. (And Iz statement on being naive to something not being the problem- its what you do after- this is one of my favorite quotes). It takes a special kind of someone to be able to write a story, that not only shows everyones flaws, but does so in a way that does not put us on the defensive (oh I would NEVER do that. I would NEVER think that) or make us judge from a moral high horse. It simply makes you think and RELATE. What does bias mean? What does finding commonality mean? Can you really step into someone else's shoes? How do these things play out in real life experiences.
Which takes me to our main characters. I don't think I've ever loved a couple so much. These two. Just from the start they stole my heart. And it was a surprise because I honestly didn't expect to love them (or this story) so much (what can I say- I'm ALWAYS skeptical of books that get a lot of buzz). And yet I do. SO much. SO much. Their love for each other- ALWAYS- is just magical. It's why I read romance. They are the definition of soulmates. Their souls are MADE for each other- regardless of their background, race or what anyone else thinks about them.
And because each book deserves it's own recognition here are just a few more incoherent thoughts on the individual books.
FLOW
Flow was a free prequel. It showed how the two of them met- and gave a little background on where they came from. Bristol's story is more prevalent in this story. And I really felt for her. I will say if you've read some of Kennedy Ryan's other books you probably know her back story- but as this was my first book by her I had no idea what I was getting into. This book may be short- but it packed a punch. I was already invested by, like, page 3. I wanted to see these characters interact and get to know each other. And by the end of the book there was no way I wasn't going to immediately start Grip.
GRIP
So this story picks up where Flow left off. And I have to say I loved it. I was hooked on their interactions, both professionally and personally. I was rooting for them to sort their issues. I felt for both of them. That is something I should mention too- the POV switching. So good. Seeing inside these characters heads. There is truly not a villain in this story. Because even those characters you love to hate- when you start thinking about their experiences and WHY they are acting the way they are- even if you don't love them- you can understand. And I should mention that is one of the most amazing things about Kennedy Ryan's writing. She is such a SMART writer she is able to weave all these issues flawlessly into the story- and she's able to show everything to a point where you would think every single thing that happened was something she personally experienced- that WE personally experienced... because we kind of did. And while we know that isn't really true- you could believe it was because honestly it doesn't matter if she was writing from his (gender) view or her (gender) view- whether it was from his family's perspective or hers-it was all relatable.
This was just an epic love story. It is not a case where they resolve everything ASAP and then have a whole bunch of misunderstandings. No. Kennedy took her time and she stayed true to her characters and to her story. And we are lucky for it. Because it was such a beautiful story. So much so that if everything ended with Grip... I would have been happy. But I had no idea what I was getting myself into with Still.
STILL
This book GUTTED me. There is no getting around it and no other way to put it. And I will stop here and say it is without a doubt my favorite book of the three. Even with how much it hurt. I was not expecting it. But the thing is, once again every situation her characters find themselves in- they are all things that happen in real life. Even now. And that they're happening to our Grip and Bristol (because at this point there's no way you aren't possessive over these two characters) it's just brutal. As I'm writing this two of my book buddies who were behind me in reading are both messaging me. Because they just got to THAT part. And I'm experiencing it all over again. And I have to say it just hurts. But it's also beautiful. That Kennedy can write so many emotions- that she can evoke so many emotions from us. And in the end, after we don't think we will ever breathe again, we can take a deep breath and just "dwell in the possibilities."
People ask often whats your favorite series is- and I have very diverse reading habits- but when I start listing mine (because who can really just pick one) there is no doubt this one will be high on my list. I think it is the type of book you are lucky to experience. That everyone should read it. Every word was beautiful. Every step was worth it. Even those difficult ones. This is the kind of book you don't get over. It stays with you. It makes you think. It hurts. But it also makes you smile. It's the kind of book where you wish your book buddies lived nearby so you could demand hugs (seriously guys please get on that- k thanks bye). And not have your husband sitting next to you on the couch looking at you like you're crazy (not even a little sorry). And that kind of book is rare and should be appreciated and enjoyed. So I am just so so happy. And so not ready to move on or let them go. So for now I'm just going to live vicariously through my book buddies. But I'll definitely be rereading them... and without a doubt going back to read her other books. I cannot wait to go back and read Kai and Rhyson's books.
"And when the years have passed,
and we have watched a thousand sunsets, and we are bent,
our bodies crooked with age
ask me again.
In the twilight,
in the shadow of the life we have shared,
ask me if I love you,
and my heart will answer before my lips can part.
My love, my life,
my heart never left your hands.
Always,
evermore,
even after.
Still."
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2017"Some people are a revolution and, with their words, overturn the things you thought you knew. You don’t always see them coming, but once you’re with them, you know the impact they have will be like a crater, deep and lasting. That’s how much of an impression they will leave."
It's quite seldom to read a book, and in said book the author irrevocably illustrates themselves in their own work without realizing it. For hours, I've wondered how I could possibly write a review for a book of such magnitude. And I know I'm not the only one. I know that EVERY person who read this book and sat down to write their review today, had just as much trouble writing it as I'm having. So, let's start with it with THE quote. This quote sums up every word, every crevice, and facet of this book. Why? Because it constitutes just that for the author. Kennedy Ryan's mind is that of something intricate, complex, and precise. It's there in FLOW, it's present in GRIP, and it leaks all over STILL.
The elements of STILL are so uniquely profound, whether they want it to or not, said elements get imbedded into the heart of every reader. Simply put, STILL is more than an epic love story continued. STILL touches on such beneficial values that are being ignored and misplaced in the world today. STILL is that wakeup call people didn't realize they were in desperate need of. STILL is that wakeup call I didn't realize I was in desperate need of.
"The hardest things in life have no escape, no workaround. There is no around, only through. We trudge through those storms. They toss us to and fro. They drench us and change us and strip us of the protection we thought privilege allowed, only to find in the end that we all bleed. We all suffer. We all die."
"Life is the grand equalizer. It has a way of stripping those privileges, rendering them inconsequential. Black, white, rich, poor—when it rains, we all get wet. When it rains, it pours, and sometimes, there is no shelter."
“'I have to ask myself when I come home, do I want someone who completely understands the struggle? Or someone who completely understands me? Someone I can’t wait to come home to, someone who makes me laugh on the hardest days of my life? Every single decision isn’t filtered through my race. Love isn’t.'”
The kind of couple that is Grip and Bris, is the kind that speaks volumes. That amplifies hardship more you could ever imagine. But more than hardship, they represent unity, harmony, and a love that can bounce back from anything and everything. A man that is so uniquely passionate about his craft, his ambitions, and his woman. A woman who is so wildly independent and expressive while not being afraid to lay her heart out so wholeheartedly for people she loves including her man.
They have the kind of love that denotes into the fiercest love that can only last just that of forever.
"The last few months have been . . . I don’t even have language for how happy I am. It’s contentment sheathed in passion, twisted around the deepest, most honest connection I’ve ever known. I wish everyone could taste this, could have this. That’s when you know you’re far gone—when you start wishing everyone else had what you have. I know what it’s like to live without it, to live without him. It’s lackluster, a pale parallel existence I have no intention of revisiting."
"It’s so d*** easy with Bristol—our banter, the chemistry, the perfect rhythm of our conversation. It was one of the first things I noticed when we met all those years ago. We didn’t read each other’s minds or finish each other’s sentences. It wasn’t cosmic, but it was a connection that seized me by the brain and grabbed me by the b****. She was as smart as she was sexy, as curious as she was forthcoming. There were years in between when we made things complicated, when things were strained, but now with our hearts settled on each other for good, it’s simple. This. Her. Us. I’m as sure of her as I am that every night the moon will show up, the stars will shine down, and hours later, the sun will rise again."
When it comes to Ryan's work, you don't highlight something simple such as words or sentences. You highlight phrases, paragraphs, and pages. STILL is the epitome that. It's more than romance and it's more than a great read. It's astounding. It's magnificent. IT'S MORE THAN WORDS STUCK IN BETWEEN THE FRONT AND BACK COVERS OF A BOOK.
And it's the most important book you will read of 2017.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music & Lyrics
Kennedy Ryan writes with a lyricism and courage that leaves me breathless and, frankly, more than a little jealous. I considered myself a reasonable writer / songwriter until ‘Still’, but I’m left feeling like a faint hearted wannabe in comparison.
Book 1 & 2 are essential reading in this epic story, but ‘Still’ is whole next level. There is a heart wrenching, and at times brutal honesty in Kennedy’s writing that speaks of hard won experience, but which breathes life and fire into her characters: Grip and Bristol live.
As for her lyrics and poetry, they possess an exquisite cadence and rhythmic beauty that haunt me: These are words that cry out with an authentic voice. I hope that ‘Bruise’ is recorded and released by an artist of note one day because it is truly worthy of acclaim. And the poem ‘Still’? Damn, but it’s tattooed on my heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I didn’t think it was possible to keep making Grip and Bristol’ story better (just wanted to point how much I love it when she calls him Marlon).
So you may be wondering, does this book still deal with the social issues that come with being a POC in the US? Yes.
Does it still talk about what is like for biracial couples? Yes.
Is it more of the same? Most definitely not!
First of all, in this book we come to a deeper understanding of Grip and Bris as a couple and we see them overcome great challenges.
We also see more of the activist side that Grip has (which makes sense considering the big platform he has to convey the powerful message that needs to be said).
If you are a white person who has never experienced any of this, it might come as a shock(as it kind of did for me) but the problems that are explained through the story are thing that POC live with EVERY SINGLE DAY of their life and we owe it to them to try to understand and to help in changing the situation.
So, do I recommend it? Most certainly YES!

5.0 out of 5 stars 10+++ stars to Gripstol and Kennedy Ryan will never be enough!
"Love floating is a butterfly. Love tested is an anchor."
You have to read Flow and Grip before you read Still. And this line? It sets the tone for Still. Still is the book you didn't know you needed. Grip was perfect and didn't end in a hangover. Still wasn't meant to be right from the beginning. But I’m more than grateful that Kennedy Ryan listened to her readers who demanded more of Gripstol.
“Tell me what you want.”
Grip and Bristols love isn't one that came easy, yet their chemistry and understanding for each other was there right from their first meeting. Their way until the beginning of Still has been rocky at times, yet their love never wavered. Through all they have been til now, their connection never got lost, their love for each other never questioned. It's one of the few things I love about them so much. On top is their honesty with each other, the way they handle problems, misunderstandings and whatever is thrown in their path. They always need each other and say so.
So, if everything is set and done and all is as good as it can be, why another book you ask? Well, life is a bitch! Not only do old insecurities play a role for both Grip and Bristol, Kennedy Ryan throws a curveball I never saw coming. She has this amazing talent and made Grip and Bristol so real, with all their feelings, the rawness, the vulnerability, the easiness, the sexiness, the understanding, that you only want them to enjoy fun, laughter and togetherness in their life's. They are only fictional characters, you say???? Pfffttt. Ask my heart what it has to say about this! Ask my feelings that are still so heavy and forefront, yet happy!
Still is the book you definitely NEED! I laughed. I swooned. I squirmed, because Kennedy Ryan came up with some very sexy things. I was at the edge of me seat. I was anxious. I cried. I cried a lot, for different reasons. But one thing that never wavered was my trust in Grip and Bris love and Kennedy Ryan to guide me through it all with brilliant writing and a story that needed to happen the way it did. I’ve mentioned it in my reviews for Flow and Grip already what an amazing and talented and authentic author she is and it all is Still true for this book.
The cherries on top are the song lyrics and poems that fit so perfectly for Grip and Bristol and their story and the problems at all.
Gripstol will forever have a place in my heart and Kennedy Ryan has become one of my favorite authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such an AMAZING story!!!
WOW I started my review of Grip saying that I didn't even know where to begin and with Still I am at a loss for words. I am not sure how to begin to explain how beautiful, how amazing, how touching, how sad, how heartfelt, how emotional and how this was truly a masterpiece that I will remember for a long time.
This story is the continuation from Bristol and Grip's story in Grip . I loved them in Grip but I love them even more in Still. Their characters have grown, have flourished individually and together as a couple. They were real, honest, genuine and sincere with each other and with others. Their love is tested and tried when the unimaginable happens and yet they are magnet for each other always loving and supporting one another. They have become one of my favourite book couples as a love like theirs was like no other.
I am in awe of Kennedy Ryan's writing to write such a believable story with stereotypes and the issue of racism that we all know still exists today. She has a way of drawing you in with her impeccable words taking you for a ride on top of that Ferris wheel and saying to yourself I will always look up a Kennedy Ryan novel as this was sheer perfection. This is one of my top reads of the year I could honestly say will stay with me forever.
Thank you Kennedy Ryan for sharing your beautiful story of Bristol and Grip with us and making us realize that love with and without barriers will always prevail!!
