4.2 out of 5 stars 64 ratings

Lieutenant Sunny Blake has spent most of her life fighting the aliens who invaded Earth. She and her friends are losing the war and the future is bleak until they stumble upon an abandoned alien device. After several months of investigation the scientists discover it’s a teleportation and time-time device, and the way the aliens arrived on Earth. A mission is planned, and Sunny is ordered to travel back in time and bring one of Earth’s most elite warriors, Jefferson W. Stone, into the future.

In 2125, Stone is trapped in a canyon in enemy territory, out of ammunition, mortally wounded and seconds from death. The enemy is closing in on him when an apparition appears, grabs him and whisks him away. He wakes a hundred and five years in the future, and is given a choice. Stay and fight, or return to his time and die.

Mardi Maxwell was born with the gift of gab in a quiet family. Desperate for companionship she developed a rich fantasy life filled with characters from interesting places like outer space, the future, and Texas. This eventually led to an addiction to books. Happily, when she grew up her and her imaginary friends refused to go away so she did what any sensible adult would do - write about them.

Mardi writes contemporary and SciFi romance. She studied English and Creative Writing, and has a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Science. You can keep up with her here, or on Goodreads or Bookbub. Connect with her on Twitter, or if you want to know more check out her website.

Mardi Maxwell has written a great sci-fi romance - and this is the first book of four - starring 4 elite alpha soldiers of the past coming forward in time to rescue the Earth and the four women of their future. Stone is the first brought ff in time by Sunlyn aka Sunny and soon a wonderful, funny and full of passion romance begins.
Sci-fi is a tough genre but Mardi Maxwell describes the future with timetravel installments; enviromental changes due to the alien invasion; the hazards of the new world/Earth; the aliens origin and nature.

Stone is a 5 star book with the perfect setup. Its a romance full of passion and a super sci-fi novel. If you like sci-fi and romance this is the perfect buy. I really look ff to the next book coming later this year - featuring Calder and Jo.

Normally I don't read time travel books, but since all her other books have been good, so I decided to read it. I'm glad I did. The characters are believable and so is the story line. I highly recommend to all you sci-fi enthusiasts. I look forward to the next one in the series.

I'm a huge Mardi Maxwell fan so when this came out, I snapped it up. Awhile back, I began reading sci-fy and this was a great start to a new series for Mardi. I'll be waiting for the next book!

This is the first book I've read by this author. There were some typos and grammar mistakes, but not enough to make it unreadable. The characters were pretty likeable, but the story felt incredibly rushed. I felt that there was more than enough sex in this book, a bit of romance, and the time travel element is satisfying for a sci-fi romance fan. The problems I had with this book included (1) the (aforementioned) rushed feeling - if not weaved into the story, it could have at least used a backstory prologue and a bit more description about everything including the heroine's appearance; I still have no idea what she looks like other than curvy and brunette; (2) the very abrupt ending - the sudden resolution of a dangerous situation without any real detailed explanation was frustrating! (3) Other than the aliens and the terraforming, we know so little about the world Earth has become and what life is like in the bunker. How do they have coffee? Do they grow their food underground? How do they have clean water since the ground is so toxic? The description of the aliens was vague as well. Have some of the women paired off since there are no men? How are these women still alive and seemingly happy (not one angry girl in the bunch)? (4) I get that morale is important, but would an interior designer be the first person on your list if you lived on a dying world with limited resources? (5) How was Sunny able to keep her wrist unit for two months under enemy capture? (6) Stone was so quick in his turnaround toward the end - one minute he wanted to stay a player, the next he realized he was in love and wanted Sunny forever. Happened so quick, it could give you whiplash!

I sincerely hope the author will address some of these types of issues/questions in the next book. Since sci fi romance is my all-time favorite genre, I will give the next one a try.

I didn't know what to expect when I started reading Stone by Mardi Maxwell, I love a good sci- fi movie but reading this genre is very new to me. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised with how much I really enjoyed this book.

With the invasion of Aliens the world has been wiped out of men and it is up to the woman to find a way to go back in time and retrieve the strongest of men to help fight the aliens and to keep the human race from dying out. Lieutenant Sunny Blake is first to retrieve one of the strongest soldiers there is and that is Lieutenant Jefferson W. Stone, who Sunny has studied from top to bottom. Sunny is the strongest woman that can handle her own on the battlefield but when it comes to Stone, he will infuriate her, break her and wake every sensual feeling she has ever had. Will Sunny be able to handle a man who was known to get around with the ladies in his time? He has a past that could be written in a book.

Jefferson W. Stone the last he knew of himself was that he was on the battlefield in the year 2125. Now he finds himself surrounded by woman, Stone couldn't be happier until he finds out what has happened to Earth. He realizes he is needed and will do everything he can to help the woman survive and find a way to bring back other strong soldiers like him. Stone has a mind set of not falling in love cause that only weakens a soldier, he never expected a woman like Sunny as much as he tries to push her away, he finds it hard to think of her with any other soldier that will be joining them. Will Stone be able to fight side by side with Sunny and not let his feelings get in the way?

Writing this review gets me all giddy cause I really enjoyed these characters. Mardi Maxwell added a perfect mixture of humor, sexiness, sci-fi, suspense and romance that made Stone perfect for me to read. For a sci-fi story it seemed to touch every emotion in me.

Enjoyed this book, I sometimes find the first book in a series is harder to get into because its setting the scene for the following books and getting to know the characters, i am looking forward to Calder and Jo's story next

A pleasant read, well rounded, although could have used a little more detail when it came to the description of the characters: height, weight, colouring. However, all in all an easy to read first book in a new series.

I can't quite put my finger on why but I haven't been able to get into the story, so there it sits unfinished. I know that there's a lot of potential and intend to give it another go, as the plot sounds great. Just my scene in fact.
