Kate McGahan has been a Hospice Counselor and Clinical Social Worker for over 35 years. She began writing the "Jack McAfghan Pet Loss Series" in 2015 after the loss of her mixed-breed Afghan Hound, Jack. The unexpected death of her father the following day sent her reeling. Despite her professional experience in Death and Dying, she went through dark nights of the soul as she attempted to cope with Pet Loss and Complicated Grief. Jack was sending her Signs from Heaven all along, but he just couldn't break through the wall of her grief. He ultimately reached her in the only way he knew how: through her intuitive writing. The result would change the course of her life and ultimately those of her readers.

Whether you are struggling with pet loss or the death of a loved one, Kate's books will apply to your personal journey and bring you out the other side of Grief. Her writing is the culmination of rich personal experience combined with clinical expertise. A lifetime of studying Spirituality, Science, Philosophy, World Religions and Family Dynamics makes each of her books comforting, entertaining and thought-provoking.     If you’re anything like me, you’ve thought to yourself “I should write a book”. Maybe it’s crazy stories that happened in your 20s, or maybe it’s a wonderful tribute to a loved one. If you’re ever thought about writing a book but you have no idea where to start, THIS BOOK is where you should start!

    The author covers many important topics including but not limited to: the process of publishing, self-publishing, publishing using Amazon/Kindle (did you know Amazon will print on demand? I didn’t.), editing, formatting, what needs to be included in the front and back of your book and what’s optional, how to write your bio, how to design your cover, the ISBN (if you don’t know what that is, I didn’t either), copyright info and how to market and sell your book. I really enjoyed the tips on how to market your book and navigate Amazon so that your target audience will find you. I had several “Ah-ha!” moments, and learned things that I never would’ve known otherwise.

    I’m a “no fluff” kind of person so I appreciate the author’s honesty, and “to the point” writing. She shares hard numbers, she will tell you how much you will have to spend (spoiler alert, it’s not that much!) and how much you can expect to make. She shares her personal experiences and situations that she would’ve changed knowing what she knows now. I appreciate her honesty and the fact that she shares these stories so that we can all learn from them.

    I would definitely suggest this book to anyone thinking about writing their own. Kate is a best selling author and has went through the process the hard way. She is now sharing her experiences and knowledge with aspiring authors to make the process easier for us, and you have to appreciate that!

    I was fortunate to meet Kate when she moved to Tubac, Arizona. She was an author then and I was impressed with her writing discipline. A person, who besides walking her dogs, found the time to always be creative and yet accessible to myself and others.
