Stranded (In Midsummer Book 1) Kindle Edition

Stranded (In Midsummer, #1)

One small town. One hot sheriff. One night of passion. One massive cold shoulder. One murder. One suspect. One chance.

I’m furious when my car breaks down in the small, quiet town of Midsummer, Arkansas. Then I meet the incredibly hot town sheriff and hope that things might be looking up. Unfortunately, that encounter sours fast, leaving me ready to put this town in my rearview mirror. That won’t be easy though, since my car has left me stranded here. Now I’m trapped in a town that has nothing to offer me.
Or does it?
When an opportunity presents itself that could see me staying longer than expected, I begin to notice Midsummer’s charm. I start to wonder if maybe staying won’t be such a bad thing. Even the sheriff is beginning to thaw toward me.
That is until someone commits murder and I become the number one suspect.
Can I convince everyone I’m not the murderer? Or will the real killer walk free?

Authors Note:
Stranded is the first book in a steamy m/m romantic mystery series. There are sex scenes between two men, occasional violence and coarse language. It is recommended for readers 18+. While this book ends with the mystery solved, the romance will develop over several books. It is recommended that each book in the series be read in order.

This MM romantic mistery completely blew my mind. Starting it I thought this will be a lovely MM story but it was so much more exciting!

Conner's stroy in the first book of the in Midsommer series starts out with his car breaking down in the little town of Midsommer in the first week of his adventure travelling America. Not a good start, yeah?
After a both fantastic and disappointing one night stand, having his car almost stolen and having no place to stay... it's still not looking good.
But then he meets Love, a lovely townswoman who shows him the secret beauty and uniqueness of the small town and gets him a job offer to stay.
The only obstacle is that he's a suspect in a murder investigation and his one night stand is the Sheriff.

Crazy right? Well, apart from being surprisingly funny and exciting this book also includes a great mistery in the form of a murder. Add some amazing characters, small town gossip and a handsome Sheriff with serious commitment issues and you got a sweet, exciting and funny romantic mistery. I loved this book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

What first attracted me to read this story was the mystery/suspense that was laid out in the blurb. Well, now I’m hooked and invested in this world and these guys and just all of it. I am very intrigued by the storytelling skills behind this author. I especially loved how the story unfold but yet will continue … are you intrigued yet? HA, you should be!

The town is charming! Rocky and Connor are very compatible ;) I mean the chemistry was perfection. I loved the ease of language used also. There are a lot of humorous plot points along with some very steamy ones and suspenseful ones. I especially liked the plot. If I was to name my favorite aspect of this story it would hands down be the plot. I don’t want to mislead anyone into thinking this story ends in any kind of cliffhanger situation, because it doesn’t. It’s just not over yet lol The next story/book will continue with Rocky and Connor being the lead characters but the suspense will be brand new … so stay tuned because now I’m invested in all of this and will read this series for as long as the author writes it!

This was my first read from this author and I'm glad to have picked up this fascinating story. Small town vibes, a crazy killer on the loose and trying to find yourself while handling a hot and cold alpha man set the stage for book one in this series. Being that this series is swirling around Conner and Rocky I'm glad to know I have book 2 ready to read! This is just their intense start so it'll be great to see where they are headed. Also a shutout to Love she seems like a intriguing secondary character.

So, this wasn't too bad. It was maybe a bit stereotypical with mild suspense and a bit of amateur sleuthing. I liked the small town of Midsummer with its connection to movies, nosy neighbors and old town charm. Since the story is told from single POV that of Connor, we get to know him pretty well. I can't say he is particularly likeable but he represents the young people of today - social media influencer whose life is on display. He is easy going, sweet but at times fickle. He kind of contradicts himself in that he keeps coming back to Rocky for meaningless encounters while bemoaning that he wants a real connection. You can't have it both way, bud!

Rocky is a hard character to like. There are glimpses of humanity in there but he is so mean, rude and obnoxious to Connor. I know that the next book is told from his POV, so I am curious how the author is going to redeem him. He wasn't much as both sheriff or potential boyfriend material but, I have to give it to him, he shined as a father. He does have tragic backstory that accounts for some of his a$$holish ways.

The side characters namely Love Fuller are cute if sometimes over the top silly but bring a bit of fun into the story. The murder case didn't much work for me in terms of investigative work or general behavior of the entirety of sheriff's department. Overall this series has potential to become a bit better. So we will see how it goes in the next book.

This title's the series starter in a MM Contemporary Mystery Romance story by a new-to-me name. It's not a standalone and there's no HEA in this title. You could call the ending a cliffhanger.

This falls into which I kind of both do like and then also not so much. I do like the characters for the most part as well as the plot, too. It's just that I don't really fancy the writing style all that much. It was difficult to get it read all the way through. Many many times I found myself scrolling through. The style of writing didn't hold my interest as much as the plot did. The plot was interesting. Love was a bit too much, and a bit too much in it, the way she kept marching the other mc around. I'm in between choices of 1 clicking more or not. I'd love to know how they'll end up together - hey, romance ... But very unsure if I've energy to go through a second one like this.

Jessica Frances is new to me and I have to say that I am dying for the next book in this series.
Conner cracked me up on multiple occasions and I love how he seems so easygoing. Midsummer is so intriguing to me from the hottie of a Sheriff that caught Conner's eye to his new found friend Love. I NEED to know what is going to happen. I have theories but there have already been things happen that I didn't see coming and I can't wait to find out what does or does not happen between Conner and Rocky.

This is a new author for me. I never know what to expect, but from the moment I started reading, I could not put this story down. I love the mystery storyline along with the developing feelings between Connor and Rocky. I cannot wait for the next book!

I liked this book a lot and the only thing missing to become one of my favourite it was the dual POV.

Small town romance was never so good to me. This quiet town was way to peaceful and it was in need for someone as unselfconscious like Conner! After he accidentally land in Midsummer some unexpectedly events happen, delaying his planned road trip. He hooked up with the local sheriff, he made an amazing best friend, he is a suspect and a detective in a murderer investigation... Let's just say the time he spent in the small town can't be described as monotonous.

It was a cute and funny love story with mystery and suspense and I cannot wait for more of Conner and Rocky.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book! Well-done! UPDATE JULY 19 2020

This was a terrific and fun great read for the summer. I am so happy I bought it. I know I will re-read the heck out of this one over & over again until the author comes out with a new book. I have already scheduled a time during the winter holidays (6 months away!) to read this while I am with family (ugh).
UPDATE JULY 19 2020: I took the opportunity to read 2 of this writer's earlier books. This was after I re-read this novel and its follow-up. I could not believe Jessica Frances has the ability to write in different styles for different books, yet all the same, terrific stories. Stranded & it's follow-up Separated, are titles of another genre to dabble in and she does it with such meat & bones skill that I am utterly and delightfully shocked by. There are writers, and then there are authors. JF IS AN AUTHOR. 😊

I waited until book two was released before reading book one and I am pleased I did as we leave Rocky and Conner at a bit of an impasse. Rocky has a 10 year old daughter and cannot commit himself and Conner wants more. I loved both characters and Love is a superb sidekick getting Conner into trouble all the time. Henry Prince is now prowling and ready to woo Conner and offer him more. I have already preordered books three and four as I know I am in it for the long haul. Low angst murder mystery and a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good beginning of the series

It started out kind of shaky in my opinion. I couldn't get a read on the MC and his love interest seemed like a ass and not very complex.
But then the mystery started and the chemistry made more sense and I really got into this book.
It's not meant as a stand alone but seems like a long teaser for the next book if that makes sense lol
Anyways, I'd recommend reading this, just be patient for a few minutes if you have troubles getting into it at the beginning.

I picked up this book as part of a 99c promotion, and I thought it would be a bit of fun. I haven't read any of Jessica's books before so I had no expectations. I have to say, I was surprised by the quality of the story, I loved the main character, and the storyline was outstanding.
I have already bought the next book in the series, and I can't wait to find out what happens next! This was a surprise find, and I'm so glad I found it. Definitely an unexpected treat!
