Suddenly Beck: Contemporary First Time MM Romance/Gay Rom-Com (Belong to Me Book 1) Kindle Edition
Nathan Elliott has run away from home at the age of twenty-six. His teenage rebellion may have come ten years late, but better late than never. Leaving behind a world of wealth and privilege, and a strict patriarchal family that would never except a gay son, he’s ready to embrace life and make up for lost time, but nothing’s ever that simple. A coin toss, a delayed train, and a wrong bus later, and Nat finds himself in a small bay in Cornwall being hauled out of the ocean by a gorgeous stranger and wondering how the hell his life got so off track.
Beck Ainsley lives life by a very simple ethos, don’t get attached, don’t get involved and don’t fall in love. He’s been there, done that. Now, he keeps his life simple; all he needs is his dog, his art, his rambling sea cottage overlooking the bay and a few choice waves to surf. He’s not looking for love or commitment, but when he ends up plucking a posh boy from London from the ocean, Cupid doesn’t just shoot him with an arrow, he clubs him senseless with the bow too.
One simple agreement. A summer fling, a chance to act on the insane attraction between them with no strings attached, and at the end of the summer they walk away.
There’s just one problem, fate is a fickle and capricious creature, and she has no intention of letting them walk away unscathed. They’re about to discover that sometimes, the heart wants, what the heart wants…
From author Vawn Cassidy, comes this hot and sweet, first time, MM romance that will leave you laughing out loud and fanning yourself from the heat…

Suddenly Beck is the first I’ve read by this author. It won’t be the last.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in the Belong to Me series. Beck and Nat are well developed and given backstories sufficient to show where they have been and how it affected them without taking up too much page time. I enjoyed watching them move into a strong and passionate union. There isn’t insta-love, but the pull towards each other is immediate and compelling.
Their road to a HEA is a little bumpy and littered with bouts of insecurity, but these guys together are beautiful, sexy, and loving.
The well-placed humor kept this from being a heavy read. It gives it a little irreverence, and I like that.
The other characters are well placed and support the storyline. There are several that I want to see get their very own HEA
I am curious about other works by this author under another pen name, so I will need to go e-book shopping soon.
I look forward to the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2022Very enjoyable story of a guy running away from his life and finding himself in Cornwall. The romance is sweet and proceeds easily, no angst or over the top drama, just likable characters in an easy, relaxed story. The small town setting is important to the story but the secondary/tertiary characters never overwhelmed or became too much.
Book desperately needs an editor. I saw in the second book the author wrote an author’s note explaining that the many errors readers were pointing out were a stylistic choice between American and English spelling/words, but I think if you’re getting enough feedback about the grammar and spelling that you need to address it in an author’s note- what you’re going for, if deliberate, isn’t working. Either way, it was distracting and the ultimate reason I settled on 4 stars rather than higher.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2021Nathan dumps everything--job, family, apartment--and boards a train for Penzance. Due to a storm and a replacement bus service, he ends up in the Bay, a small tourist town near Newquay. He ends up entangled with the Ainsley clan. Beck, a sculptor and surfer, rescues him from the ocean while Mel, Beck's mum, gives him a job at the family's restaurant. Now going by Nat, he embraces everything he's never been able to do in his constricted, narrow life.
Beck returned from an apprenticeship in Italy swearing off of any relationship. He's settled down to his sculpture and surfing and occasional lifeguard duties. Nat sweeps him off his feet. It's a lot of fun seeing Nat bloom and incorporate himself happily into small town life and the boisterous Ainsley (and friends) clan. And Beck, so attracted to Nat, that he's practically beside himself trying to maintain some sort of distance. Lovely, sweet romance.
Secondary characters are well done, I definitely want to know what happens with Deacon and Jesse (next book), Ryan and...someone, and Nat's sister Pia and Beck's oldest brother Reed.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2022This book is a must read for anyone who has had a crappy week and needs a pick me up, or maybe you've had a great week and want to continue the happy feelings. Basically anyone who enjoys contemporary M/M romance will most likely enjoy this book. It has all of the feels from I giggle, there may have been a guffaw here or there, and definitely a couple tears.
Nat is a sweet caring man who has let his father dictate his life until he feels the need to start over. And start over he does thanks to a rabbit coin, a downed tree, and the wrong bus. Beck has been hurt in the past and is still dealing with multiple losses that have led him to a life of art and surfing, but with a wall around his heart. I fell in love with these two and the whole of the Bay, I now feel the need to leave the mountains and move to Cornwall.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2022I love the community of characters this author created and her two protagonists are so lovable and admirable. BUT she needs to work on her grammar; every fifth sentence or so is incomplete, lacking either a subject or a verb. And she needs to brush up on her vocabulary: vice vs. vise, envelop vs. envelope, for example. It's jarring when you're trying to stay in the story to have to correct the text in your head.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2021This is a new author to me and I can't wait to read more by her. This is a beautifully written MM story. This is Beck and Nat's story.
Nat has been running away from a life he despises. Growing up with parents that never spared him an ounce of affection, and doing a job that was crushing his soul, he realizes he has to escape his current life to maintain sanity. Nat has a passion for cooking that was always discouraged. Meeting a local that needs help in the kitchen finds this eager young man finally doing a job he loves.
Beck is a local artist. He avoids relationships and just wants to fool around in the romance department. Beck’s world gets tilted sideways when he comes to the aid of a visitor.
I loved Beck and his family and friends. I love small town romances. Its also set in Cornwall, I love reading books set in that area and it has Surfing another thing I love. I also love Beck's cottage with a studio overlooking the sea sounds like a awesome place to live.
I can't wait for Jesse and Deacon's book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2024This was a beautiful story with some humor that I love and some spice that I also love! I hope we eventually get Reed's story.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2021I’ve read both books written by this (new?) author. The characters, settings, and storylines are good and I see a lot of potential for future works.
The one drawback for me is in editing. It might be autocorrect or even typing too fast, but both books have grammar/spelling errors that take away from the story. A good editor could have made the difference here between 3 stars and 5 stars. Mistakes cause readers to stumble in the middle of a sentence rather than remaining caught up in the story.
I would like to see future stories by this author, but I sincerely hope at least 2 good editors are used before publishing. It will make such a difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful MM romance in glorious Cornwall
What a delightful MM romance. The Bay is gloriously Cornwall and its inhabitants are all so lovable. A lovely small town romance with engaging characters, loveable protagonists and a location we would all love to go and live in.
Nathan arrives in the Bay by accident, running from his overbeaing father and trying to regain control of his life and be the man he wants to be.
Meeting Beck, he feels an undenaible attraction, and it is obvious Beck feels it too. Beck is so calm and understanding and yet he is also recovering from heartbreak and not ready for another relationship. A fling maybe, no strings, but is that what Nat is looking for?
I love how Beck tries to give Nat all the experiences he never had a chance to enjoy as a child. It is so endearing and sweet that you just want them both to be happy.
Glad to see this is a series so we’ll get to return to the Bay and its lovable inhabitants. I want to see Beck be successful with his sculptures and for Pia to escape her horrible marriage. I am sure there is much still to happen in this small town in the UK.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Feel Good book
Suddenly Beck by Vawn Cassidy kept me smiling throughout the book. It had its funny moments and the banter between Beck and Nat (Nathan) was refreshing. I traveled with Nat to this beautiful Cornish coast and lost myself in his journey of finding himself as a gay out and proud man.
Nat ran away from home at 26, escaping from his uptight patriarchal family and unloving upbringing and got onto the wrong bus, and landed up in a quaint picturesque Cornish town in Cornwall where he was saved from drowning by Beck immediately on his arrival, and Cupid played its part instantly with its love arrow.
Beck and Nat were made for each other. Beck lived his life happily with a one-night stand and did not believe in relationships, due to a previous heartbreak, a talented artist doing well for himself in the art world, and Nat an enthusiastic self-made chef, who was in the wrong profession in London, stepped in to help Beck's mom who ran a restaurant Sully's but had landed up in trouble due to a cheating manager who emptied the coffers and disappeared.
Beck's family was large and loving and Nat very quickly was accepted as a member of their family. Each character in the story played their part to the T taking the story forward to its happy ending.
As others have also pointed out, this book needed spell check and proofreading. But on the whole, it was an interesting book to read., putting a smile on my face as I read on.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading her previous paranormal male-male romances and looking forward to reading more such interesting books in the future. Eagerly awaiting Vawn Cassidy's book 3 in The Dead Serious (Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed) series.

5.0 out of 5 stars MM Romance at its best.
I’m not sure what drew me to this book as the author is new to me but I am so glad I did because not only did I discover a new amazing author but I loved, loved this book! It was like your favourite chocolate bar that you want to eat in a whole bite but at the same time want to nibble so it lasts; once I’d started I didn’t want to put it down but at the same time I wanted to enjoy and savour every part of Nat and Beck’s relationship for as long as possible.
Both Nat and Beck are just gorgeous and genuine. Nat is escaping his life in London when he meets local artist Beck, and they start to feel the chemistry between them. Their story of trying to be friends which turns into lovers is lovely and heartwarming until the spectre of Nat’s past sprinkles some angst into the mix. The amazing secondary characters are the icing on the cake with the wonderful Molly being the cherry on the top.
Everything about this book from the plot, the heartfelt emotions that just grab you, the humour, setting and all the characters were perfect and it was a joy to read. In short, this wonderful, sexy, swoony, fun story most definitely should be on your must-read list. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I was given an ARC of this book to review and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, light-hearted and cute!
This is quite a simple book but I really enjoyed the story and getting to know all the different characters of this small town. Looking forward to reading the next one and of course Pia's story, too!! I need to find out what happened to her and have her hea with Reed...
