Considering I have no one to blame but myself for the PR storm I find myself in, I’m more than happy to hide out for the summer. WPF Records hooked me up when they sent me to the Mountain Ridge Resort. Some fresh air in a beautiful setting is just what I need. I’m going to keep my head down and hopefully get some inspiration while I’m here.

When I meet Calliope, I find my muse. She’s everything I didn’t know I needed. How her family talked her into the resort, I’ll never know. She’s a fish out of water, but the cutest one I’ve ever seen.

She might think this is just some summer fling with a guy with a bad reputation, but it’s so much more. I’ll prove to her I’m more than what the media says about me. I’ll prove to her she’s the muse I need, the one I’m keeping.

CALLIOPE
My family dragged me along to the Mountain Ridge Resort using guilt. How could I turn them down when they’re calling it the last real family trip we’ll have? You’d think they’d be happy to have all the kids out of the house in the fall when my youngest sister leaves for college. Instead of accepting the natural order of things, I find myself surrounded by nature and activities.

I’m not much of a joiner, at least not until I meet Lane. Suddenly I’m willing to join him on any adventure he can come up with. I didn’t think my summer would involve a fling with a rock star hiding out and avoiding a media circus, but it’s too good of an opportunity to pass up.

The more time we spend together, the more I fall for him. What happens when my trip is over? How about when he’s back to being a famous rock star and he forgets about me? He calls me his muse, but that doesn’t mean it’ll last forever.

    When the mother of Calliope Stewart pleads with her to go on a summer vacation with the whole family, the recent college graduate unenthusiastically agrees. Since they will be staying at Mountain Ridge Resort in Virginia, many of the activities will involve being outside, something she is not eager to do as she enjoys her alone time reading a book much more. Upon their arrival, all her family is eager to start participating in some type of outdoor adventure but not her. Just as Calliope thinks her plan to be by herself and relax is working, a man comes up to her, and what happens after her conversation with Lane Daniels is nothing like she expected to happen during her time on the mountain.

    Ember Davis once again manages to create characters whose lives grabbed my attention from the start, and by the time the book ended, I had become fully invested in what the future held for them. Calliope is at the point in her life where big changes are about to take place, and the events which occur at the resort play a huge part in what will ultimately happen in the days ahead. After Lane got himself in some minor trouble, he has been trying to avoid the media until things quieten down. Feeling rather down, he immediately perks up once he spots Calliope. How these two responded to each other is described with particularly emotional sentiments at times, and I always got a true sense of how these two individuals felt about each other. The passion between Calliope and Lane is portrayed with heated moments that were expressed with much caring during every encounter, too. SUMMER MUSE is a wonderful installment in the Mountain Ridge Resort series. Rating – 4.5 Stars
