Summer at my Sister's: A delightfully uplifting and heart-warming, summer romance (Seahorse Harbour Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 3,258 ratings

"Wonderful from front cover to back!” – Books are Cool

Diana’s life is perfect. Her twin sister, Josie’s – not so much. But when secrets are revealed this summer, everything will change.
413 pages of summer fun!

Twin sisters. One scorching summer. A bucketful of secrets.

Diana has a rich and successful husband, two talented youngsters and an adorable dog. She always looks as if she’s stepped from the cover of a magazine. Her immaculate second home by the sea, for idyllic summers with her perfect family, was actually featured in one.

Josie has a messy, compact flat, dates, but not relationships, and she can’t even keep a houseplant alive. She moves from job to job, goes clubbing with her friends and often looks as if she’s fallen through a hedge.

Although Josie loves Diana deeply, each year she declines the invitation to spend the summer with her sister. Or any other family holiday. Because Josie has a secret.

But is Diana’s life so perfect? Or is she also hiding something? When secrets are revealed this summer, everything will change. Josie could finally have the life she’s always wanted … if she’s brave enough to take a chance.

This is the first book in my new series of standalone novels set in Seahorse Harbour.

Emily writes novels, novellas and short stories about friendship, family, the things life throws at us, and falling in love. She loves a happy ending but knows that life doesn't always go to plan. Her stories are sure to bring a smile to your face and a warmth to your heart. She is a full member of the Society of Authors and since her first book was published in 2012, several of her books have been best sellers.

Emily lives in East Sussex, UK, minutes from the sea in a town called Hastings - famous for the Battle of 1066. The stunning surrounding countryside and quaint English villages often appear in her books. Emily lives with her rescue cat, Portia, and when she's not writing, she loves to read, cook, drink (too much) wine with her friends, and potter in the garden of the house she's recently bought. She also loves skiing, adores frolicking in the snow, and is a self-confessed lover of Christmas - which can't start too early, in her opinion.

Emily loves to connect with her readers and has a readers' group in which many have become good friends. To catch up with Emily, or find out about the group, visit https://www.emilyharvale.com or connect with her on social media: https://www.facebook.com/emilyharvalewriter

Perfect read for eight days of 90 degree heat, 100% humidity, and nothing to do. The characters were amusing, although not really developed, but that was okay.

A sweet small town story with a splash of sizzle. Emily Harvale never fails to completely suck me into her stories filled with charming characters and delightful settings. This is the first book set in the adorable seaside town of Seahorse Harbor. Josie and Diana are twins, but they could not be more different in both luxe and temperament. Josie is free spirited, fun loving, and single. Living in New York, traveling around the world, never staying anywhere too long to commit to anyone or anything. Diana is the responsible twin. She is married to a handsome rich Doctor, has two beautiful children, a gorgeous home, and a rambunctious dog. When the twins mom is convinced something is going wrong in her perfect Diana‘s life she asks Josie to go see what is going on. The thing is Josie has not been back to Seahorse Harbor since she was a teenager when her life changed forever. But after a quick phone call to Diana Josie is convinced that her sister needs her so she hops a plane to the UK to see her sister and face her past.

this was such an engaging story! I just loved everything about it! Josie and Diana were both great characters and I loved their sister bond. Now I have to admit Diana would be a friend you’d want in an emergency and Josie is a friend you’d want to go party with. Although there is much more to Diana then it first appeareds and Josie could be a bit much at times. Their Aunt Elsie was great and added the perfect amount of color to the story. Also adored Diana‘s kids Toby and Becca and of course Henry the dog. There are also three hot available men in Seahorse Harbour that have caught Josie‘s eye. All three men were really great guys, I was curious as to who Josie would end up with, and I am happy to say I liked her choice. Although I have to say I was seriously frustrated with the girl( and the guy) many times throughout this book. Another stellar story from one of my favorite authors, can’t wait to visit Seahorse Harbour again.

    This book in emojis. 🏖 🐶 🌳 🐚 👙

*** Big thank you to the author for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

This story had such many twists and turns. Josie was sad because she had a secret that kept her away from her family but the secret was very close to home.
I loved the ups and downs of this story and how one family can overcome the lies between them.
Really enjoyed this story looking forward to reading book two and hopefully find out more about what the characters are doing and what other dramas there is to happen.
I would definitely recommend this book. Great writing and very good author.

I loved the fact that the perfect sister’s live wasn’t that perfect at all. This book is a good look at how we perceive people’s lives and how making a wrong choice can have repercussions. The characters are well drawn and kept me interested way in to the night. Josie the heroine is flawed, but loveable and at one point gives an impressive speech about women’s sexual freedom. The ending is of course happy. The twist in the plot is surprising. Don’t want to give it away, but the only thing that annoyed me was someone taking and printing out a photo 16 years ago when there were no cameras on phones and digital cameras were evolving but lots of people still used film, especially teenagers. However technically could have accessed a digital camera and printed. Overall this book is a real return to form and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Good enjoyable and easy to follow read.
I enjoyed all the characters although found Josie a little annoying at times with her attitude and ways and me,me,me attitude but she was likeable and I'm sure there are ladies in the world similar.
Story was good and reasonably believable.
I got the book through my kindle unlimited account, have never read anything by this author before but will do again.

Loved this book... Love the characters... Everytime I read one of Emily's books, I could be right there. Total escapism and I fall in love with each character. Two sisters, so different but each with a story to tell. Diane seeming to have everything and Josie always feeling second best... I loved the twists and turns and laugh out loud moments... I can't wait for the rest of the series. The thing I love most about Emily's book is that you can revisit the characters in the next book and find out what happens next... Totally recommend this book... Thanks again Emily for something lovely in these strange times!!!

Emily Harvale is quite possibly one of my favourite writers. Ive never read a bad book of hers and thankfully this one is no different.
A heart warming story of twin sisters who couldn't be more different. One lives the single girls life in New York and the other a stay at home mum of two gorgeous children (and the dog!). The story takes us through the present whilst revealing dark secrets from the past with a little heartbreak, misunderstanding and love thrown in for good measure. I laughed and cried with the characters and thoroughly enjoyed this book. I wont put in any spoilers but can thoroughly recommend reading this but don't expect to get anything else done as I found myself unable to put it down xx
