About the authors
Riley Hart’s love of all things romance shines brightly in everything she writes. Her primary focus is Male/Male romance but under various pen names, her prose has touched practically every part of the spectrum of love and relationships. The common theme that ties them all together is stories told from the heart.
A hopeless romantic herself, Riley is a lover of character-driven plots, many with flawed and relatable characters. She strives to create stories that readers can not only fall in love with, but also see themselves in. Real characters and real love blended together equal the ultimate Riley Hart experience.
When Riley isn’t creating her next story, you can find her reading, traveling, or dreaming about reading or traveling, and spending time with her two perfectly snarky kids, and one swoon-inducing husband.
Riley Hart is represented by Jane Dystel at Dystel, Goderich & Bourret Literary Management. She’s a 2019 Lambda Literary Award Finalist for Of Sunlight and Stardust.
Christina lives near Lake Erie in Northeast Ohio and her writing life happens somewhere between a cup of strong coffee and a glass of good red. She writes steamy slow burns with plenty of swoon, because who doesn't melt for those small, tender moments or grand, sweeping gestures?
She has books available through Penguin/Random House as well as self-published works in different sub-genres of romance, including the LGBTQ community because representation matters and everyone deserves a happily-ever-after.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2018There are some books that fill your heart to bursting point and every time you think of them, your heart flutters a little. They are those books that you cannot help but recommend to every one of your friends, and over time, they become some of your favourite re-reads. Riley Hart and Christina Lee’s latest collaboration is every bit as beautiful as I’ve come to expect from this excellent duo, and from the very first page, I was besotted. A tender story of love that both heals and breaks the heart, and told through two very different narratives, braided together, but separated in time—one set in the present, and the other told through letters from many years before—a novel like this gives voice to all the forgotten love stories that could not be, and all the ones that wouldn’t have been possible had times not changed. I loved this book so much, I never wanted it to end.
Set in a small town in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the small-town setting is crucial to understanding the full story. We meet Tanner Rowe a year after the death of his beloved wife, just as he moves into an old farmhouse with a half-burned-down barn. A college professor, Tanner is a man with no family, a man who’s only ever loved one person in his whole life, and whose untimely death has left a deep sense of emptiness and loneliness in his heart that nothing can dispel. The farmhouse was once his wife’s dream for a new chapter in their life together, but it has now become just a constant reminder of all the ways he’s failed her in life, and every moment inside it only serves to feed his guilt.

Cole Lachlan has spent the past four years of his life in prison, and even though months have passed since his release, his new felony record has prevented him from finding work anywhere. At every turn, employers have turned him down for job opportunities, leaving him homeless and with very little to his name. He arrives in the picturesque town of Red Bluff, Michigan wanting to make a new life for himself, but his hopes for a fresh start begin to sour as he fails to find a job time and time again, making his living situation progressively worse as days go by.

When Tanner and Cole’s paths suddenly cross, they are just two men drowning in desperation and loneliness who recognise those feelings in one another, and when Tanner hires Cole to restore the old barn on his property, thus putting a roof over his head, they begin to forge a hesitant friendship that offers them both comfort and inner peace.

But in the midst of it all, Cole discovers an old journal hidden in the old barn, telling the tale of a forbidden love from a long-ago era, and as they begin to read together about a young man named Tom falling in love with his best friend Charlie, Tanner and Cole’s friendship begins to change in a myriad of ways, their growing attraction leading to the possibility of something infinitely more. And once they give in, their hearts latch onto each other with growing intensity and emotion, falling in love easily and without hesitation.

But as Tanner and Cole delve deeper and deeper into the mystery of the barn fire and the events leading to it, we watch two beautiful love stories unravel in the very same place, but several decades apart, providing a searing comparison between those times, and all the ways society has moved forward over the years. Riley Hart and Christina Lee’s knack for telling intimate, human stories with a greater meaning is marvellous and rare, and while their every love story fills us with joy and wonder, there is a subtle but thoughtful social commentary permeating their novels that is both perceptive and optimistic. This is one of those beautiful reads that stays with you, and squeezes your heart all over again every time you revisit it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2025Beautiful...simply beautiful. This tale is fierce! Tanner and Cole are drawn together. as if a thread is pulling them inevitably towards each other. A haunting, sexy creation of love and the human condition. I highly recommend this crazy ride especially if you believe inn fate and second chances.😘
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2024Pro tip: Maybe don’t try to finish this story at 3 o’clock in the morning while your partner is sleeping because you’re going to have to figure out how to ugly cry on mute. 😅
The second I read the synopsis, I knew this story was going to get me, but I did not expect it to rip me to shreds the way it did. This is truly a magical and emotional book, with one of the most unique plots I’ve found in a while (one heck of a feat in the MM romance genre, imo).
I would probably rate it a 3.75, overall. I got lost more than once, trying to figure out who was talking or being referenced when the authors would stick with just “he/him/his” vs. names or clearer descriptors, like “the other man” or something like that. It was distracting enough that I would have to reread paragraphs or flip back to a previous page to catch myself up again. I also wish we had just a little more build-up for Tanner and Cole. I didn’t fully buy into their affections initially because it felt incomplete, if that makes sense. I got there eventually, but I just needed a little *more*.
Overall, though, I absolutely would recommend this book. I think it’s incredibly important, especially today/in the current political climate, for us in the lgbtq+ community to remember those who came before us, even, maybe especially, those whose stories may never get to be told; celebrate how far we’ve come, the progress we’ve made, and the wins we’ve achieved; and keep pushing forward in honor of those who never got the chance and are no longer with us. It’s also just plain beautiful and the prose is downright lyrical at times, and it ends with a feeling of so much hope that I was just about bursting with it.
I’m really grateful for this story, even if I did almost throw up from crying during the last like 20% lolol (I feel a lot, okay?)
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2018You know it’s a sign of an incredible book when you wake up still thinking about it and start crying all over again. And you’re crying in the shower as you’re getting ready for work. And you’re crying on the drive into work and cursing the lack of sunlight that would allow you to put your sunglasses on so you could hide your tear filled eyes from all the other commuters. And you’re sitting at work trying to hold it together so you can write a review that even kind of makes sense. If you haven’t figured it out by now, this book was incredible, it was beyond incredible really. It’s unique and breathtaking and it’s going to be right there at the top of my favorite reads at the end of the year.
Of Sunlight and Stardust is so beautiful and stunning and heartbreaking and all the best things you want in a book. It had me all up in my feelings from the start and I’m still not over it yet- this is another book that will be staying with me, that I’ll constantly think about. Tanner and Cole stole my heart from the minute I met them. They both have been through so much in their lives, they’re each damaged in their own way and fighting the loneliness that threatens to overtake them. But the moment they first set eyes on each other there was an instantaneous and unexplainable connection between them. A connection that only grew the more time they spent together.
And it was just so lovely watching these two men fall in love and heal each other.
Ms. Lee and Ms. Hart have written a story that touched me deeply. As I got towards the end I kept putting the book down every few minutes, because I did not want to let these characters go. I wish I could carry Tanner and Cole with me all the time.
I really hope no one spoils anything about this story because it’s so special and people need to experience this journey for themselves.

If you are reading this looking for opinions and trying to decide if this book is worth reading....
IT IS! GO FOR IT!
Goodness! This is a master piece. I'm an emotional wreck right now! The characters backgrounds and feelings run deep and the story grows at a steady pace, calm but intense in so many ways... I just can't fully explain. It's sad, beautiful, inspirational, mysterious, romantic, hot.... Really so good!!! Seriously... I couldnt stop reading until it finished and by the end I was nearly sobbing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spellbound
Beautiful story yet tragic. I usually empathize with characters, but the way I did which Cole and Tanner, never. I will try to stay as vague as possible in order not to spoil. But there is a moment in the book were until that point I carried the same hope as Tanner and Cole... and was as devasted to learn the truth. I tell myself it is a fiction, a very well written one. They are million books about homophobia, this one though... it is a fiction, only it truly happens, people being harrassed, disowned or worse so so worse. Like the book says, only because of human nature to love another one, but not the one society deems right. Whether because of gender, skin colour or even the person you live not living in the same town as you.
Furthemore, this book is also about the journey of trying to get back on your feet after life threw you some nasty curveballs, about being forgiven and forgiven yourself for past mistakes. About living on when everything has been lost.
I am still shaken by this story, it has a happy ending but yeah it... I can't say more, no spoilling here.
Authors, Thank you for this Beautiful yet tragic story. I really hoped and shaked along Tanner and Cole, they really deserve their happiness after everything and I don't know how to describe your talents for coveying this through words. It think was masterfully well written. I was spellbound. Thank you so much.

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but gave goosebumps
It was a great read. I loved the journal entries.
It felt predictable, you could feel the connections, but thats not a bad thing, this is not a thriller so seeing it coming makes it even more sensible.
Liked it.
