Of Sunlight and Stardust Kindle Edition
After the death of his wife, Tanner Rowe takes a step toward making her dream come true and buys the house with the dilapidated barn she’d been inexplicably drawn to in the picturesque Upper Peninsula. But after a year, he still can’t get past his grief long enough to make the repairs he’d promised.
Recently out of prison, Cole Lachlan has little to his name. Homeless, broke, and without many options as a felon, Cole heads to Red Bluff with hopes of a second chance. There he meets Tanner, whose loneliness mirrors his own, and soon Cole is trading room and board for rebuilding the burned-out barn on Tanner’s property that hasn’t been touched in seventy years.
Turns out, the barn holds more secrets than either of them could have imagined. After unearthing a hidden journal from 1948, Cole and Tanner spend their evenings poring over the pages, reading about a young man pining after his best friend. The deeper they delve into this forbidden affair from the past, the more Cole and Tanner’s own relationship shifts—from acquaintances to friends…to undeniable attraction.
But as they begin to deal with the newness of falling in love in the wake of Tanner’s loss and Cole’s past, they also become more determined to unravel the mystery of the young lovers who’ve captured their hearts, the rumors about the fire, and what really happened that fateful night.

About the authors
Christina lives near Lake Erie in Northeast Ohio and her writing life happens somewhere between a cup of strong coffee and a glass of good red. She writes steamy slow burns with plenty of swoon, because who doesn't melt for those small, tender moments or grand, sweeping gestures?
She has books available through Penguin/Random House as well as self-published works in different sub-genres of romance, including the LGBTQ community because representation matters and everyone deserves a happily-ever-after.
Riley Hart’s love of all things romance shines brightly in everything she writes. Her primary focus is Male/Male romance but under various pen names, her prose has touched practically every part of the spectrum of love and relationships. The common theme that ties them all together is stories told from the heart.
A hopeless romantic herself, Riley is a lover of character-driven plots, many with flawed and relatable characters. She strives to create stories that readers can not only fall in love with, but also see themselves in. Real characters and real love blended together equal the ultimate Riley Hart experience.
When Riley isn’t creating her next story, you can find her reading, traveling, or dreaming about reading or traveling, and spending time with her two perfectly snarky kids, and one swoon-inducing husband.
Riley Hart is represented by Jane Dystel at Dystel, Goderich & Bourret Literary Management. She’s a 2019 Lambda Literary Award Finalist for Of Sunlight and Stardust.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2025Tanner finds himself alone and with a house that he bought because he promised his late wife Emma that even if she was gone he'd buy the house that captured her heart and live out their dream for her. He's felt lost in the year since she died not knowing what to do with himself besides spend the year grieving and moving to the house his wife loved with a fixer upper of a barn that was half destroyed a long time ago and was never fixed or torn down. He doesn't know what's next for him except that being there helped him feel closer to Emma, and that helped, but he still felt that loneliness that she once saved him from when they met. Until he meets Cole. Cole is freshly released from jail and homeless, just looking for a place to go and start his life over. The only person he ever had in his life died while he was in jail, so he was alone in the world and with a record to boot, so getting a job isn't easy. But then he meets Tanner, and he's given a chance. Tanner offers Cole a job fixing up his barn, and in turn, Cole can stay there, and Tanner will provide him with a meal 3 times a day. Cole is a proud man determined to make it on his own and agrees to stay as long as he can earn his keep. Finally, Cole seems to be able to breathe a bit easier than he has in a long time. As Cole is fixing up the barn, he stumbles upon a loose floorboard where he finds an old journal by a man named Tom who used to live in the home Tanner bought. Together, Tanner and Cole start to read about the tale of two men who were best friends and also fell in love at a time it was dangerous to love someone of the same sex. The more passages they read and the more time they spend together unconsciously easing each other's loneliness and their hearts, the more they can feel a shift in the friendship they started to forge. Tanner isn't gay, yet he's started noticing Cole in a way he never has with another man before. There's definitely attraction there and a deep sense of connection he's never felt before. They understand each other and make each other happy. This book really puts into perspective how cruel life can be simply for loving someone of the same gender. As Cole and Tanner read about the beautiful love unraveling in the pages of Tom's journal and the way he and Charlie had to hide it from the public because it wasn't safe is so heady that I think it helps Tanner come to terms with the way he starts to feel for Cole than when they'd first met. It spurred him to live his truth and his love for Cole, for the people who would never get to do the same. For Tom and Charlie. I'll definitely admit I ugly cried through the last parts of Cole, Tanner, Tom, and Charlie's story. Tom and Charlie's story should be taken as an example that love that deep will never be wrong and it deserves to be fought for even if ugly people think differently. It was a story in a story of love, loss, and the hope that things will keep changing and we're no longer condemned for a love others view as wrong. These men will stick with me long after I post this review and give me the courage to fight for myself and others who are like these wonderful men.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2024Pro tip: Maybe don’t try to finish this story at 3 o’clock in the morning while your partner is sleeping because you’re going to have to figure out how to ugly cry on mute. 😅
The second I read the synopsis, I knew this story was going to get me, but I did not expect it to rip me to shreds the way it did. This is truly a magical and emotional book, with one of the most unique plots I’ve found in a while (one heck of a feat in the MM romance genre, imo).
I would probably rate it a 3.75, overall. I got lost more than once, trying to figure out who was talking or being referenced when the authors would stick with just “he/him/his” vs. names or clearer descriptors, like “the other man” or something like that. It was distracting enough that I would have to reread paragraphs or flip back to a previous page to catch myself up again. I also wish we had just a little more build-up for Tanner and Cole. I didn’t fully buy into their affections initially because it felt incomplete, if that makes sense. I got there eventually, but I just needed a little *more*.
Overall, though, I absolutely would recommend this book. I think it’s incredibly important, especially today/in the current political climate, for us in the lgbtq+ community to remember those who came before us, even, maybe especially, those whose stories may never get to be told; celebrate how far we’ve come, the progress we’ve made, and the wins we’ve achieved; and keep pushing forward in honor of those who never got the chance and are no longer with us. It’s also just plain beautiful and the prose is downright lyrical at times, and it ends with a feeling of so much hope that I was just about bursting with it.
I’m really grateful for this story, even if I did almost throw up from crying during the last like 20% lolol (I feel a lot, okay?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely beautiful collaboration. Highly, Highly recommended reading.
Lee & Hart, two dynamite authors who individually have stellar careers with their published work, so when they collaborate we know their novel is going to be top shelf. So many great collaborative stories from them, I have to say this one, 'Of Sunlight and Stardust' is my top pick for them..
So beautifully written, emotional, sad and happy, smoking hot sexy; a beautiful tragic love story that encompasses 70 years, and unites four wonderful men into 2 separate relationships, ( 2 old school best friends who become lovers, and 2 modern day men who become best friends, then lovers).
Of Sunlight ad Stardust is the telling of unconditional love set within different eras in a small town in mid western USA, with Tommy and Charlie loving each other back when it was a criminal offence to engage in homosexual activity. Oh thankfully, how times have changed in regards to criminal liability for homosexuality in countries with common sense, and thankfully there is far more public acceptance for different sexuality.
The novel opens in present time, with Tanner and Cole, meeting by chance, and their story takes us on an emotional journey as Tanner deals with grief, and Cole getting used to post prison life. Their relationship, which starts strangers, evolves into acquaintances, then friends, best friends, and finally lovers. We meet Tommy and Charlie from snippets of past history unveiled through Tommy's words via his journal, a leather bound book discovered 70 years later.
Hart and Lee, brought together Tommy and Charlie our men from 1948 and Tanner and Cole our men from 2017, in such a perfect way, that I actually was beyond sad the book had ended. Beautifully written, tight editing, chronological, and very, very easy to relate to, Of Sunlight and Stardust is a fabulous book. No spoilers within this review, its absolutely 1000% worthwhile reading the novel.
Word of the wise: Definitely a box of Kleenex worthy, and highly, highly recommended reading for lovers of friends to lovers

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreakingly beautiful.
I absolutely loved this book, it tells two stories, in the present it tells the story of Tanner and Cole, two broken men who find solace together, and through the two of them reading a journal found in Tanners barn, it also tells the story of Tom and Charlie, and what they went through as two men who loved each other in the 1940’s.
The two stories that run along together are similar in some ways, but very different in others, mostly due to the eras in which each story unfolds, both beautiful love stories, but with very different endings.
I cried a river reading this book, it’s a beautiful story, beautifully written, but at the same time absolutely heartbreaking. I cannot recommend this book enough, just have some tissues handy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but gave goosebumps
It was a great read. I loved the journal entries.
It felt predictable, you could feel the connections, but thats not a bad thing, this is not a thriller so seeing it coming makes it even more sensible.
Liked it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read this story!
Loved it! Tanner and Cole’s story was wonderful and I felt so much for Tom and Charlie too! It was a nice touch to have the “parallel storyline” and I loved how the authors entwined them all in a lovely way!
I loved how the heroes got to fall in love for each other, how they supported each other and how they both dealt with their pasts.
This is book of finding out who you are after a hard time, second chances, how to accept others how they are, how to simply open yourself for love.
It’s a very nice story that deals with strong and important topics, and it’s amazing how it gets you thinking about other people, how you want the world to be a better place, with respect and equal rights to everyone. Especially for those who just want to be themselves and love.
This is now one of my favorites MM books, and it goes straight to my “all time favorites” list. 5+⭐️!!
