Sweet Thing: A Masters of Romance Novel Kindle Edition
My name is Patrick Neumann, and I have the world’s worst-kept secret—I’m in love with my boss, Aaron (aka: Nyx), and everyone knows it but him.
You’d think an award-winning romance author would be able to spot his own happily ever after a mile away, but nope. Aaron is clueless. I could show up on his doorstep in a jockstrap with a rose clenched between my teeth and he’d still think I only want to be friends.
Which is why I’ve written myself my own perfect happily ever after and published it under my new secret pen name: Miller Night. It’s seventy thousand words of sweet, steamy romance starring thinly veiled versions of me and Aaron—all my deepest, darkest desires spelled out right there on the page. I haven’t been subtle about it, but I’m not worried. It’s not like Aaron will read it. And even if he does, he’s so oblivious he’ll never figure out that Miller is really me.
Nyx
I’ve read a lot of romance novels in my life, but the one I just finished is the most perfect of all. It’s swoony, sweet, indulgent, and so hot the words almost melt off the page. It’s so good that if I didn’t know better, I’d think it was written just for me.
Best of all, it’s helped distract me from the feelings I shouldn’t be having for my cute blue-haired personal assistant, Patrick.
I don’t know the author who wrote it, but I need to be his friend.
Miller Night, watch out, because I’m going to make you mine.
Sweet Thing is the second book in the Masters of Romance series, where romance authors don’t just write about happily ever afters—they live them. Get ready for love, laughter, and some serious steam. No cheating and no love triangles, guaranteed. This boss/employee, friends to lovers, secret identity rom-com romp of a book can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s way more fun to binge them all. Which author are you most excited to see get his HEA?

About the author

Should you ever find yourself traveling down the gravel street of a quiet forest community in the Midwest, you may come across Emma Alcott—suburbanite by birth, but small-towner by choice.
Emma loves all things doctors say you should only enjoy in moderation, writing the stories of her heart, and traveling. Once upon a time, she fell in love with a man from another country and moved mountains in order to be with him. They’ve now been married for half a decade and have far too many fur-children.
Seriously.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2024I found this book by chance and am so glad I did. This was a great read from an author that was new to me. I loved the characters and how they all related to one another. I can't wait to go back and read the first book in the series. I am really looking forward to seeing where the author takes the series. Sweet Thing was a fantastic book that I will definitely enjoy reading again.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2021Shy personal assistant Patrick has been secretly pining for his author boss Aaron/Nyx for the past year, but his best efforts to make a move have fallen flat into the friend zone. So how better to express his tongue-tied self than by secretly penning his own HEA romance? Only his pen-named efforts work a touch too well on his clueless crush.
The combination of Aaron feeling protective of Patrick and his complete obliviousness of heart-eyed Patrick's feelings toward him is pretty amusing. Both are such nice and likeable guys (Patrick is an absolute sweetheart!), one can't help but root for Aaron to finally connect the dots, even if the journey there isn't especially compelling.
Just as in Book 1, the Masters of Romance chat exchanges between the author friends group are great fun (I adore Will) and easily my favorite aspect of the whole story, and I look forward to their HEAs to come. I also enjoyed how this story offered a real-life behind-the-scenes peek at self-publishing, though parts of it seemed to drag at times (like achieving a 'zon orange banner).
This was a slow-starter for me that picked up speed at around 20%, and it was a pleasant read overall. I received an advance reading e-copy of this book and have left this honest review voluntarily. (Also read in KU.) [Story: 3.5 Stars]
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2022I love Nyx/Aaron. He is so literal and sweet his innocence rings true and genuine and you can’t even laugh at his interpretations to peoples comments because it flies over his head. Why because he is so sweet and amazing and honestly has like not a mean bone in his body. So cute. Patrick is a-dork-able in his nervous shyness he has around Nyx because of secretly being in love with him. Loved the dual personalities of his writer persona and him around Nyx. Love the cosgrove bunch. You can feel the live they have for one another. Even when they are okay fighting. Can’t wait for more.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2022This is the first book I've read from this author, but I loved it!!!! It's so sweet!!! It's exactly what I needed to get over my reading slump. I love reading romance but it feels like there's just a over saturation of toxic Alphaholes. This is nothing like that. THIS IS ROMANCE! So sweet, innocent, spicy, and so swoony. Can't wait to binge read all I can from this author!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2021This book was okay, but not as good as the first in the series-Bad Boy. I didn't feel the connection between the 2 MCs. - Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2021Who would have thought that being clueless could be considered a cute thing? But that's exactly what Aaron/Nyx was when it came to his shy and sweet assistant, Patrick's, feelings for him. What's a guy to do? Well, when your boss is a romance authors, you may as well get those creative juices flowing and write your own romance novel inspired by your situation but do it with a pen name, Miller Night! Gah! Too darn cute!
Sweet Thing is the second novel in Emma Alcott's Masters of Romance and it is as sweet as it promised to be. This wasn't your typical boss-employee romance. I loved Alcott's spin on the trope, truly making it fit into the series without forcing the issue. Patrick and Aaron/Nyx were adorable and I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve, even if it did feel like forever before Aaron clued in to what's been in front of him for a year. Bonus points for Aaron's family and Patrick's bestie. 4.5 stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2021I adore this series. The masters of romance—these men are so sweet. Can we just talk about this?? Nyx and Patrick—gah. I can’t explain how much they just make this story soooo adorably sweet. Don’t get me wrong—there is steamy times too—but if I could have love like this I’d be a happy girl. I can’t wait for the audio—and I will definitely keep this in my pick me up—reread pile. 5 stars. Magical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wieder klasse
Toller zweiter Teil der Reihe. Ich hab wieder so gelacht. Der arme Patrick, Nyx war so ahnungslos. Einfach eine schöne Serie und ich hoffe der nächste Teil lässt nicht ganz so lange auf sich warten.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love changes all of us.
MM, Romance. Easy to read page-turner with humour throughout, a real lol constantly. Although part of a series I believe the story can be read as a stand-alone with no loss of enjoyment or understanding. Patrick is really endearing in his unwavering love and devotion to his employer Aaron...who is totally clueless about it all. A great read. HEA.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awww
I couldn’t really connect to the first in this series. But when I saw so many people reviewing this and saying how sweet it was I decided it was just what I needed this week. I haven’t been disappointed.
Nyx/Aaron is a sweet hopelessly oblivious and slightly gullible character who is really just a giant teddy bear. Patrick is sweet, smart, caring and riddled with nerves but completely devoted to Nyx.
Their getting together is a complete disaster but in the best kind of way after a year of working together. There’s laughs, sweet moments and a few weepy moments. This is one of those cuddly jumper reads, when it’s cold and wet out and you’re curled under a warm blanket. Really enjoyed it and the supporting characters. Only down side was at times Nyx was a little too oblivious. There were moments it was a little frustrating you wanted to give him a shake but then he’d be sweet or think something hilarious and you’d forgive him. A good light read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a good book
This was sweet and funny and I really enjoyed it.
Patrick and Aaron are hilarious together. I loved how tongue tied Patrick is around Aaron and how clueless Aaron can be. The way they fumbled around each other, how they finally get together in the most perfect way and the ending, made this à sweet, lovely read.

4.0 out of 5 stars The sweetest thing
Loved the Side Character book and enjoyed Bad Boy. This one is better than Bad Boy. Loved Aaron's being totally oblivious to his family or friends comments. Patrick is a cutie. Morgan is a delicious side character as well as Aaron's family (could there be more stories on them maybe?) Looking forward to Lou's story
