The Sword and the Sylph (Elemental Magick Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 52 ratings

He's a knight hiring out his sword. She's an Elemental of the Air

The Sword:

Sir Braden is headed to Banesmoor to hire out his sword, but when he gets there he's surprised. He is offered the lord's daughter in marriage as well as a huge dowry if he can find and capture the spy who has infiltrated the castle's walls.

The Sylph:

Portia-Maer is an elemental of the air - a sylph. She can brew up a storm with the mere flick of her wrist, being half fae and half human. She's been sent to Banesmoor by her wretched stepmother as a spy, preparing for battle. Portia has the ability to turn invisible, so she has no trouble carrying out the task. That is, until she meets Sir Braden.

Distracted by the handsome but landless knight, Portia drops her guard and exposes her presence. To her surprise, the man says he knows her and that she's healed him with just a kiss.

Can Sir Braden keep his commitment? He's expected to marry a woman he doesn't love, and also to expose the spy who happens to be the girl of his dreams. This will bring two sides to battle.

Power and passion collide when dark secrets of the past are revealed, and lives are not only threatened but changed forever.

Author Elizabeth Rose has crafted her tale of the Sword and the Sylph around characters that are bit edgier and not as perfect as the typical hero and heroine we've come to expect. The hero, Sir Braden is a knight looking for a noble bride with land and a hefty dowry to elevate his status and allow him to become a liege lord in his own right instead of serving others. He seems perfectly content to enter into a loveless marriage of convenience with little consideration for the feelings of the bride. I found this to be lacking in the virtues of honor and chivalry which one expects in a knight. He becomes betrothed to the daughter of Lord Solomon, a wealthy nobleman and the Lord of Banesmoor castle.
Months before, Sir Braden had been seriously injured in battle and the sylph, Portia-Maer healed his wound with her healing kiss. He was immediately smitten with Portia and had been searching for her ever since. Portia-Maer is the daughter of the Earl of Calila and a Fae mother. As an Elemental Fae, Portia has many skills which include her healing kiss, invisibility, controlling the weather and more. She is also highly temperamental and at times an insufferable spoiled brat. Obviously they were made for each other but as you might expect, there are many obstacles blocking their path to true love, including her evil stepmother, an arranged marriage to a marauding thug, the search for a spy, and of course Braden's betrothal to the Lady Christabel, Lord Solomon's daughter. Just to make things a bit more interesting, Christabel has a love interest of her own and it's not Braden. Get ready for magic, romance, intrigue, sword play and many twists and turns that will keep you entertained right to the end.

Here is another wonderful story by Elizabeth Rose. I loved this series because of the magical way the elements does with each of their elements (fire, earth, air and water). This one is about air and how Portia gets the air to do things for her. This story has some funny parts in it which makes the story more enjoyable. I hope you will enjoy reading this book and the rest of the series as much as I did.

The knight leaves his Lord and friend and decides to be his own master. For a long while, his thoughts have been on a beautiful woman whose kiss healed him on a field of battle. He rides into the next town and the next thing he knows he is engaged to the daughter of the Duke, along with a dowry and land, every knight's dream. To obtain this he must find out who is spying on his new Lord and what the Lord next to him is planning to do. He goes to the other castle and what does he find...the girl of his dreams. She is even lovelier than he remembers. Now what is he to do? Engaged to a girl he doesn't love and then finds the girl of his dreams is his enemy.
