I was ready to jump into this book! I was dying to see what would happen with The Secrecy, Adam and Emma, Duffy, and the others. And we get right into it. The transition between books three and four was seamless.

This time, Adam and Emma are heading to The Secrecy’s second location in Canada, due to an attack on their British base by M15. It turns out that The Secrecy is bigger than initially thought to be. All of the agents and guards are forced to follow a very strict schedule that leaves no room for mistakes or wandering around. When Adam and Emma try to sneak out of their room to snoop around, they are quickly caught and punished severely for not following the rules. I was relieved when they weren’t shot, because at this point, I would not put it past Linda to do so.

I expected to see more people in charge, but the only ones mentioned are Linda, Scotty, and Becca. I find it hard to believe that those three are the only ones in charge of this operation. It would have been nice to see some more people. Along with that, other agents are mentioned in this book. Adam and Emma even share mealtimes with some of them. I was hoping they would be more involved. Surely not all of them would side with The Secrecy?

There are more cute moments between Adam and Emma this time around, including a lot of kissing! While I was okay with them just being friends, it was nice to see them have someone they could trust completely.

The two make a plan to escape the base, but only Emma is successful in doing so. Adam is forced back inside, and I was terrified he was going to die, but instead Linda and another agent torture him for information regarding Emma’s escape and their involvement M15. This separation gives the reader more Emma focused chapters. It was nice to see Emma’s trek through the snow for safety, instead of staying with Adam and just hoping she made it. I cannot describe the noise I made when Emma managed to contact M15 and Duffy came to get her.

They chase Linda back to the British base, where we have our final showdown between M15 and The Secrecy. The scenes where the agents are trying to find her hiding place is especially tense, knowing that there could be a guard around any corner. The deaths are the most detailed of the whole series, making it clear what is at stake if they lose. I just wanted them to capture Linda and for everyone to get out alive, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

I was left shocked by the final deaths in the book. I had to stop reading for a while and go do something else because I was so devastated. So quick, but so important. I wanted it to not be true, but the last chapter just solidified that it all actually happened.

Overall, this was a fantastic series that I’m so thankful I read to the end. While the ending is going to upset me for a little while longer, it is the perfect ending to a story like this. 10/10 for everything, would definitely recommend!
