Taking Charge (Like a Boss Book 1) Kindle Edition

Sebastian

My new temp doesn’t quite have the level of sophistication I’ve grown used to with secretaries from the recruitment agency. She’s only been here ten minutes, and she’s already gotten stuck in the elevator, blown up her computer, and caused the coffee machine to explode all over the floor. She says technology hates her, but I’m beginning to suspect her secretarial skills aren’t the reason she wants to work at my company.

Part of me wants to fire the agency for wasting my time and send Colette and her sassy smile packing.

The other part of me has very different ideas of what to do with her.

Is there more to her than her smart mouth, tight skirt, and high heels?

What does she really want from me?

Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

I've heard all about the inimitable Mr. Wright. "He can make you cower with just a glance," one of the younger temps at the agency informed me with a shudder.

"He's gorgeous," another mumbled, "but he made me cry when he shouted. I'm not going back there."

I was determined I wasn't going to be as spineless as that. But nothing had prepared me for my first sight of Sebastian Wright.

Jeez, the guy's tall. I'm not short, but he towers over me even in my heels--he must be six-three or four, with wide shoulders and a broad chest, not one of those lanky, skinny dudes who grew too quick as a teen. His hands are like dinner plates. He's just... big. Can't help but wonder if he's big all over...

His navy suit is so sharp you could slice ham on it. He has thick dark hair you could sink your fingers into. And I can see why his deep, gravelly voice and half-lidded eyes with their baleful glare would make a lesser woman cower.

They didn't make me cower. They made me
burn.

I've dated my share of men. Some wanted to serenade me, some to make love to me, and others just wanted to bend me over a chair and take their pleasure.

I've never met one who made me feel as if he wanted to do all three.

Jesus, I tell myself, get a grip. I got stuck in the elevator and then smart-mouthed him in his own office. He probably thinks I'm a total pain in the ass, and he hasn't even gotten to know me yet.

But the thing is, you know when a man looks at you like that, don't you? Like he's already imagining you naked? Like he can't wait to drop to his knees and find out what you taste like?

Everyone should have a chance at love, especially when they were sliced and diced out of a long-standing relationship. Again, sweet story.

I like a little more story with a side of sex, but this author had it the wrong way 'round. I skipped a fair bit of the book because the sex scenes were rather excessive. Don't get me wrong I love a good book with some smut but I'd rather more story than smut. The book had a good premise and was amusing. So I give it a2.5 and round it up to 3!

A standalone read with a HEA. First in a series of short, sexy, stories. I really liked it. A young woman takes on the job as temp to a very rich, smart and gorgeous co-owner of a high tech company. They are getting ready to go into trials to test a new device that will change the lives of deaf people. She is the worse secretary ever. She can't type, file, organize or even make coffee. One has to wonder why she ever applied for this job. However, she does have a way about her and she manages to hold on to the job past the first day.

The boss is the hero in the story. He is a sexy hunk and has his pick of women and all for very short periods of time. He doesn't seem to be in in hurry to commit. She walks through the door and he looses his power of speech. He has a reputation for being difficult and hard to work for so he is use to intimidating secretaries and making them cry. However, she seems to not be effected by his deadly glare when he complains about her being late on her first day. She has no problem standing up to him and shocking him.

they are quite the pair. Inside she is scared to death he is going to fire her. But she puts up a brave face. They only have a week together so things move along rather quickly. It appears she has a big secret - it is NOT that she is attracted to him. She lets him know in no uncertain terms that she wants him. However, there is a no-banging the secretaries rule. One he is about to break. Things get hot and heavy really quick. I would suggest you read this book in a cool spot!!! The heat is definitely turned up.

It is a good story and like some of Ms. Woods' books in the past she takes on a disability that effects millions. It is a very good story and I definitely recommend it. It is a fun, sexy, romp through a week with a very sexy boss!! I have already pre-ordered #2 in this series.

I was not paid for my review. I am not an author nor am I kin to this one. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

“Taking Charge” is the first book in a new series by Serenity Woods. This series is a slight deviation from her other books in that it is a bit more racy and explicit. Is it what I expected? No. Is it up to Ms. Woods’ normal standards? Definitely but with a very race edge.

The characters are well developed and the story moves at a fast pace. The lead male character is the boss, Sebastian. And his new hire is Colette who is a very strong female lead. She just isn’t a great secretary. But she has fantastic talents that aid her in her quest in the office. And no bedding the boss isn’t her initial quest. The heat between the two of them is off the charts!!

This is a rather steamy read so pour yourself a nice tall ice cold drink before settling into the shade to enjoy this summer read!!!

Taking Charge, as the series name "Like a Boss" implied, is a "hot for boss" novel, but this one, the reason for liking the boss actually made sense. Add some disguise, secret agenda, and more, you basically have a Cinderella story.

Sebastian, CEO of a tech giant working on a new generation of hearing aid, needs PA help when his existing PA went on family leave. The temp agency sent over Collette, but so far she's a walking disaster. Almost everything she touched blew up or konked out. She got stuck in the elevator (she swore she pressed a button and the entire board popped open with sparks). Her PC went up in smoke when she turned it on. Even the coffee machine exploded (!?!) But there's just something about her that made Sebastian take notice... // Collette is there under false pretenses. Her brother has ASD, and this special hearing aid will really help him, but the trial is supposedly full. If Collette can just slip in her brother's name onto the list... But it won't be easy, as watching Sebastian is giving her some VERY wicked thoughts... When a late night encounter led to some scorching NSA sex, neither can stop. But when Seb wanted to keep her long-term, he can't find her...

Ah, a "hot for boss" story with a PROPER motivation, plus some hot sex and sitcom. Interesting way to retell a Cinderella story...

Taking Charge is a sexy little story. Lust flares instantly between Sebastian and Colette. Neither one wants a relationship but hot, hot wanton sex is something they both want. Who says office romances are a bad idea?

At first, Colette seems totally incompetent but I quickly realized that wasn't the case. She is an intelligent, take no crap, sassy woman. Sebastian has definitely met a woman, other than his sister, who won't be intimidated by him. Sebastian initially comes across as a man married to his job who thinks relationships are a waste of time. It soon became clear he was a caring, sex on a stick, sensitive man. HAWT!!!

This is the first book in a new series of office romances called Like A Boss. I can't wait to read the next one. If you like sexy reads written with humor and an interesting storyline this is the book for you. Grab your copy and have a fan nearby to cool down your e-reader... and you!

It was just an okay read for me. It had potential but the author seemed to want to wrap up the story and move on. Colette is certainly a quirky character. Technology repels her and some of the situations she got into was comical. She was a perfect match for Sebastian's serious side and when the two got together, sparks flew (the good kind). I would have liked to have seen more of this couple with an epilogue but alas, it did not happen.

A good story, yes it is very hot and sexy but the underlying story is worth reading, unlike quite a few in this genre. Sebastian is fascinated by the new temp sent by the agency to stand in for his PA. Colette is a disaster in the office, in her first hour or so in the office she gets stuck in the lift, destroys a computer and blows up the coffee machine. Also she can only type slowly, using just two fingers. He is puzzled as to why the agency sent her and suspects some devious plot, but - she makes him laugh and she is not afraid of him.
He is not wrong, Colette is plotting, but it is nothing sinister, and the longer she takes to tell him the more she feels she cannot. Eventually, despite their intense romantic attachment she runs away, having managed to achieve her goal. Sebastian discovers that she gave the agency false information, so he thinks he cannot find her. His sister Elen discovers what Colette has done, and from that Sebastian is able to find her again, because of the time they have spent getting to know each other he is able to pick up on the clue. I thought that was a very clever touch by Serenity.
A well thought out story, and a good read for a lazy afternoon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable quick read

This is a standalone romance novel with a HEA that forms part of a series with overlapping characters. The reason that I have given it four stars rather than five is because at some points it feels like a series of hot and steamy sex scenes, loosely connected by a fast paced story. The plot is an original one as is the subject of the business which is are plus points for this book and prevents it from being an only average three star read.

Colette Watson is temping for five days at the tech company Hearktech as PA to Sebastian Wright, one of the company directors. He is the engineer responsible for the creation of a new ALD - assisting listening device - and Colette wants her brother, Liam, who is deaf, to be part of the trial for the new technology. Only problem is, he's not on the list of testers and Colette wants that changed.

This is a lighthearted tale of two people meeting in an office environment and exploring their attraction to one another. When they first meet, Sebastian wonders what on earth the employment agency was thinking, as Colette wrecks every piece of office machinery she touches. But rather than fire her, he moves her to other, less harmful office duties. Sebastian is unaware that Colette has a goal and a secret reason to be there; getting her brother on that list.

What Colette didn't bargain for, was an instant attraction to her boss Sebastian - and it seems to be mutual. When they act on that attraction, it leaves a lasting glow which lights them up every time they meet, but Colette knows she is on borrowed time. She finds it harder to resist Sebastian but she knows they have no future together. Sebastian is drawn to her, quite out of character for him, and he can't understand why she is pulling away from him. When Colette leaves her job with Hearktech at the end of her contract without saying goodbye, and Sebastian is unable subsequently to trace her, he is distraught. They then discover Colette gave a false name and address to the employment agency. Will Sebastian be able to solve the mystery of Colette Watson's identity?

Taking Charge is book one of Serenity Woods' new series, Like a Boss. It is told from dual points of view, is standalone and the main characters have their HEA.
