The Legend Begins....

    Violence and captivity are all Darvir had experienced. With no comrades or kin; nothing significant in his life, he becomes a lethal one-man force. His expert fighting skills have made him unrelenting, and no one can match his abilities. Bright, stunning Elaine has humiliated her people because she is not satisfied with their ways of following deceits. Due to searching for virtue and truth, she is banished to an isolated place in the empire. When Darvir and Elaine meet they come up against an olden day wickedness. This malevolent force conjures danger and dark-magic that has them fighting for their lives. Author, JM Christian has surely written a nail biting fantasy tale. The story’s scenery holds glowing word imagery and the characters are relatable and passionate. The Dark Wolf (The Heart of Light Trilogy Book 1) is Christian faith centered and I was riveted by it, the whole book through!

    1. From the first chapter, The Dark Wolf has an epic, old-timey feel. Some will consider the writing style to be too "telling", but I enjoyed the narrative tone.

    2. I'm a huge fan of a romantic thread. J.M. Christian threaded subtle romance into the story, and perfectly so.

    3. One downfall for me is the multiple points of view, of which I'm not normally fan. However, by the end of the story, the author fantastically brings all the characters together with a cliff-hanging conclusion.

    This is one of the most descriptive fiction books that I have ever read. The author has a God-given gift for describing things with unparalleled detail. And the words he uses make the sentences flow with a beautiful rhythm that is quite unique. However, sometimes there was so much scenery/character detail that my mind sometimes got lost in it, causing me to forget what was going on (the action part of the story). There was a lot of 'telling' versus 'showing.'

    The overall theme is what is truly stunning, & it is crafted in such a creative way. The author took a biblical theme/notion, & weaved into a fictional story with magical creatures - genius!!! While it could be difficult for some to see how elves, dragons, magic rings and stones, etc., could have anything to do with a biblical notion, the author pulled it off with astounding finesse! I am amazed with how the author did that.

    This is an interesting, complex & beautiful story for those who enjoy books about all things magical!

    The Dark Wolf commands the readers attention completely. JM Christian's commitment to the well-worded description of his world paired with the imagination of an eager fantasy reader is a recipe for total immersion. From the get go you are prepared to follow Darvir wherever he is headed and it felt as though you walked and watched him in person. There is an impressive web of different characters and subplots throughout. Fans of the fantasy genre will appreciate some familiar creatures and terminology alongside new flora and fauna that were created for the universe of The Heart of Light trilogy. Enjoy!
