Taking Liberties (Like a Boss Book 3) Kindle Edition

Caleb

Like most men, I go for a particular type of woman. Normally tall, blonde, sophisticated, well-spoken, educated, and ambitious. They’re usually called Sophie or Annabel or Lydia, and they wear pantsuits and style their silky hair in neat bobs and have French manicures.

And then I meet Roxie.

Her jet-black hair sticks out all over the place. She has black eyeliner, black eyelashes, and purple lips. She’s wearing a tight sweater the same color as her lipstick, a black mini skirt, black tights—one leg of which bears a ladder running up her thigh—and long black boots. And she has a shedload of attitude that’s obvious from the moment she walks in.

We’re not suited at all. But she sends me one flash of those kohl-rimmed eyes, and boy, am I in trouble.

From the Inside Flap

"Whiskey?" I ask, and when he nods I go into the kitchen and take out a bottle. "It's only the cheap stuff," I say, conscious that he probably has one-hundred-year-old malts aged in oak barrels made only from trees planted in leap years.

"I'm used to cheap whiskey," he advises with a wry smile. "I wasn't always a director of my own firm. Seb, Harry, and I lived not far from here when we left university, and we learned to live on a budget."

"I bet your idea of a budget is a lot different to mine." I pour two large shots of the whiskey. "When you left home, did Daddy warn you he'd only pay off the first two thousand of your credit card every month?" I bring the glasses over.

He takes one, his smile fading a little. "You think I come from a privileged background."

"Don't you? What was your last girlfriend's name? Poppy? Autumn? Clara?"

His lips twitch. "Felicity."

"See! There you go. I bet the women you're used to are all vegetarians or vegans. I bet they do Pilates and play tennis and refuse to have their kids vaccinated."

He tips his head to the side, and his eyelids lower halfway, which gives him a hot, sultry look. "So why am I here?"

"You fancy a bit of rough?"

A frown flickers on his brow. "That's what you think of me?"

"Caleb, it's okay. I get why you're here. I bet when the other girls you sleep with are in bed they're checking their reflection over your shoulder to make sure their hair is still in place. I bet when they come--if they do come, because that means being out of control, which women like that don't like, so they probably fake it--they go, Oh!" I make a little French-like squeak.

He studies my face, but doesn't say anything.

I move closer to him, my heart racing. "You're here because you think I'm different. You think I'm going to be loud, and dirty, and that I like it rough. You think I don't care what my hair looks like, and that I'm going to scream your name and claw your back. You think you'll be able to do anything you want to me, and that I'll lie back and let you, or give you a few ideas of my own."

I stand in front of him, take another mouthful of whiskey, and then lick my lips. "And you know what? You're right."

Caleb stares at me. For a second, I think I've frightened him off, and he's going to grab his jacket and leg it out of the door.

But he doesn't. Instead, he moves closer, slides a hand to cup my cheek, and bends his head to kiss me.

This is the third in the series but it is standalone and has a HEA. She is a bit on the rough side. At first she appears to be one thing but later is discovered to be someone else. Caleb is one of the CEO's of a tech company that is on the verge of making equipment for the deaf. His company has done quite well and he is very well off. Of course, he has a father that is never happy with him or his accomplishments. So there are some issues there.

She has issues of her own. She comes across as rather crude and determined to present herself as a wild child with very few morals. This is a short read but complete in every way. There are some surprises to be discovered. This is an interesting story and quite sexy. I would recommend it for the reader interested in a different romance.

I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

“Taking Liberty” is the third book in the new series by Serenity Woods. Ms. Woods is taking a move away from her normal writing style with this series of books. Each book is a stand alone but if you read one of her books, you end up wanting to read them all. So plan ahead.

And prepare yourself for some steamy reading since these books are a touch more explicit and racier than her other books. But they are definitely not smutty. So if you live in the northern hemisphere, pour yourself a nice chilled rose or large chilled glass of wee tea before settling down on a chair in the shade of a warm afternoon of late spring/early summer. Or if you are in the southern hemisphere, the early cool evenings of late fall.

This is Caleb’s and Roxie’s story. Like many men, Caleb has a particular type of woman that he dates. Well, that is until Roxie enters his life. And he knocks him on his rear so to speak. She challenges everything he has thought he liked in a woman. Which of course makes her the perfect woman for him,

I did receive an advance reader copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair unbiased review. I was happy to do this since I love her writing.

Taking Liberties is the 3rd book in the Like A Boss Series. Once again, Serenity Woods has written a terrific romance. While Caleb and Roxie appear to be so different from each other, they actually have a lot in common. Roxie is a strong woman intent on making something of herself. She has loads of drive and determination. Caleb is a swoon-worthy man. He works so hard to prove to Roxie that he isn't out of her league. He is so gentle and caring. When Roxie's secret is revealed, Caleb meets the challenge head-on. That made him even more perfect. *sigh*

If you enjoy well-written romances with interesting characters, look no further. Taking Liberties is definitely the book for you. All the books in this series are stand-alones but I recommend reading all of them. I haven't found a Serenity Woods book that I don't highly recommend. She is an awesome author who never disappoints.

This is book three of the series and it just keeps getting better and better! Each time a new book arrives I can't wait to sit down and devour it.

Serenity Woods is such a gifted writer and I just love how she creates her characters with such warmth and passion. Caleb and Roxie come from different worlds and there is an age difference between them that causes pause on both their sides. Caleb is polished and worldly. Roxie is brash and sassy and dresses kind of punk. She isn't anything like Caleb has ever dated and she doesn't feel like she belongs in his world.

The sex simply sizzles between them and there are more sides to either of them than the other realizes. The road isn't smooth but I love this sweet and sexy romance.

I voluntary reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and my opinions are my own.

Taking Liberties is an opposites attract romance with a slight age difference between a company boss and a punk chick mailroom worker with a few surprising sides to her. Out of this series of short reads so far, I think this story has been my favourite as it didn’t follow the typical office romances and has a few surprising twists throughout as this one night fling doesn't quite end with just one night.

Told from dual perspective, Caleb and Roxie have a sizzling attraction to each other that heats up fairly quickly after their instant attraction. Given this is a short read and jumps a little at the end, there is a good level of getting to know the characters and the depth of their connection.

If you enjoy a short and sexy read with a few surprises between two opposites definitely give this a read!

*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

Caleb, a co-director of a tech company, doesn't believe in love at first sight, but seeing Roxie, a girl that should not be his type, may just throw a wrench in his plans. A temporary worker for the company, a moonlighting guitarist, and waitress, it may be that they have more in common than he first thought. Having some guitars of his own, there are more similarities than he expected. However, she isn't the "type" of woman he thought he wanted -- an elegant society type who would look good on his arm. She is a free-spirited woman with spiked hair and a single-mother to boot, but he can't stop wanting what his heart wants.

This is a perfect beach read! There are no cliffhangers in this series and you will recognize characters from previous books, but the books are on the shorter-side so it is a perfect vacation book to bring along.

    Main Characters:
    Caleb Chase
    Roxie Jones

Roxie is a temp at Hearktech where Caleb is one of the directors. Caleb doesn't believe in love at first sight and he definitely knows there is a policy of "no banging the temps" but he can't help himself when he sees Roxie playing lead guitar with her brother's band at a local bar. She's all energy and sass, so different to the girls Caleb usually is seen around with, especially his high maintenance ex, a fully fledged member of the twin set and pearls brigade.

Beneath the sass and the black eye liner, Roxie thinks she is nothing special, knows this thing with Caleb is a quick one-nighter, could never go anywhere, but the way he treats her is mind blowing. Roxie is used to the wham bam thank you ma'am kind of sexual encounter, but Caleb is being so very attentive in all the right ways.

But Roxie is keeping a secret...

This is a charming opposites attract kind of office romance with fantastic love scenes, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Taking Liberties is book three of Serenity Woods' series, Like a Boss. It is told from dual points of view, is standalone (though characters from books one and two appear) and the main characters have their HEA.

Roxie and Caleb seem to be the most mismatched couple yet but of course they are perfect. I find the characters and the back stories very interesting too.
