Two Dead Climatologists...An International Conspiracy...A Looming Global Cataclysm...

When eminent climatologist, Dr Dale Stanton - in the process of studying the Atlantic Ocean's Thermohaline Circulation - is found dead in his London apartment, environmental lawyer, Robert Spire, is given the task to administer a large legacy left by Dr Stanton in his will. The job should have been straightforward, until a second climatologist drops dead on the other side of the Atlantic...

When Spire's client engages him to look further into her son's death, it soon becomes apparent that not all is as it seems. Spire soon discovers he is under surveillance and an attractive female Russian spy is tracking his every move. Is she involved in the mysterious deaths of the two climatologists? And if so, why?

Spire is soon thrust into an international conspiracy involving a terrorist plot to push the Arctic to its tipping point, and the world to disaster...

Welcome to GLENCOM, an acronym for Global Environmental Command, a semi-secret, massively funded, British Government Department. The world is facing very real and increasingly dangerous environmental threats. GLENCOM and their most reliable agent, Robert Spire, have been tasked to deal with the most urgent and pressing ones… Let's all pray he succeeds.

TIPPING POINT is a fast-paced, unputdownable climate-change thriller, with terrorism elements that will keep you turning the pages until the very end. If you like James Rollins, Brett Battles, Clive Cussler, and the action and adventure of a James Bond movie then you will love the entire Robert Spire Action Thriller series.

"Simon Rosser's scientific and psychological thriller "Tipping Point" is one of the best I have read in the past decade. He has a gift for fluent narrative, realistic characterization and for creating settings that come vividly to life for the reader. He blends tension and suspense very successfully against the contemporary background of global warming and its sinister implications.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"If you're a fan of Clive Cussler, Rollins, A.G. Riddle and Michael Grumley and others in the science-adventure thriller field, then this action-packed thriller is a must read" Neil Gregory WPM - Avid thriller reader. RABID READER REVIEW - "The world is on the brink of an ecological disaster. Climatologists are found dead, and the investigation into their passing takes one man around the globe and into a conspiracy to melt the ice caps and send the world to its tipping point.
While I think Rosser does his best to write a credibly scientific story, I'd be lying to say that I understood every point. That said, Tipping Point is a freaking fabulous thriller. Despite not getting all of the science, I enjoyed this smart and fast read. Not only is Rosser's novel a well-written and fun roller coaster ride, but it makes you think about global warming and what it is doing in regard to the future of our planet."
What the readers are saying;
"Compelling story about a very current issue"
"Tip top global adventure"

"Enjoyable action-thriller"

"Great yarn, couldn't put it down"

"Well-crafted environmental thriller"

"Simmering suspense"

Simon was born in Cardiff, South Wales, UK, in 1968.

When he's not busy with his day job as a lawyer, he is the author of Action-Adventure-thriller novels, predominantly the Robert Spire Action Thrillers, which all have an ecological, historical, science-fiction mystery cataclysmic theme. Think James Bond mixed with Indiana Jones and a bit of environmental / historical facts thrown in for good measure...

Favorite authors include - Ed McBain, James Patterson, Lee Child, Lincoln Child, Douglas Preston, Patrick Lee, Michael Grumley, A G Riddle and Clive Cussler.

Favorite movies - Good The Bad and The Ugly, Jaws, Deliverance, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, It's A Wonderful Life, Scarface, Play Misty For Me, Electra-Glide In Blue, The Abyss, Deliverance, Contact, Alien, Predator, Interstellar, The Thing and many others.

I loved this novel. As someone who is very interested in global warming, I especially enjoyed the way the author applied so much factual information on global warming in the story. It was like getting an education on global warming while being seriously entertained. Lots of action revolving around a good "must save the world" ecological disaster theme. All told, I highly recommend this novel. That said, I will comment on a few negatives. For my taste, the author went into too much detail describing the settings and to some extent, the characters. I mean, I really did not need to know the color of every object in the scene, much less the fact that it had recently been painted that color. Of course, a good writer does try to make the reader feel like they are in the scene by vivid description. It is just a matter of degree that was a bit more than I liked when I was eager to get on with the plot, which was very good. The only other problem that I had was that it was a bit derivative of a James Bond movie, where the hero manages to accomplish fantastic feats of physical and mental skill. I especially thought the rather pointless scene at the end, where a minor assassin from the story suddenly pops up for one last attempt on the hero's life for no apparent reason (his employers had long since been dispatched) long after the story had ended reminded me of the last scene of "Diamonds are Forever."

The story line is almost credible, if it were not for the fact that global warming is fake science. Lack of sunspot activity tells us that Solar Cycle 25 will initiate another solar minimum similar to the Maunder Minimum, so global cooling is due up next. Notwithstanding this obvious (?) fraudulent meme reinforcement, I note that the hero is a lawyer, reinforcing another fraudulent social meme. Otherwise, the story moves along, with only minor scientific errors and obvious skimming over of forensic details involved in murder by nicotine injection. The Russian/Saudi plot to warm the Northwest Passage with nuclear reactors is a little over the top, and the denoument of the rogue Saudi entrepeneurs is not explained at all. Since the good guys win, I guess it meets the objective, but I was not all that enthralled by the continuing contributions of global warming artifacts, although they were woven of whole cloth. I got the book (for free) for entertainment, and it sufficed, ie, it was worth every penny.

I was pleased to read a science-based novel about a subject that the author actually researched. The book was nicely plotted and the characters were recognizably individuals, skillfully given personality without saddling the reader with a pointless history. I only wish he had spent at least a little time learning punctuation! I won't be reading anymore of these novels, because the samples I've seen show the same poor grammar as the first. It's too distracting to me - pulls me right out of the story line and plops me flat in my chair, shaking my head and muttering, "Good grief!" For example, the lieutenant's Smith and Jones (can't remember the characters' actual names) would be two men who belong to some lieutenant. The Lieutenants Smith and Jones are Lieutenant Smith and Lieutenant Jones. "Under the Canadian's noses" indicates that there is a Canadian with two or more noses running around out there somewhere. That one not only knocked me out of the story line, but, fortunately, had me laughing for a while, thinking about that poor Canadian. I think he meant ". . . under the Canadians' noses." I'd think it was an error, but it was too common. It's nit-picky, I know, but I want the narrative to run so smoothly that I don't notice it. In this book, I had to keep backtracking to fill in the missing commas and interpret the usually unnecessary apostrophes and figure out what that sentence actually meant. That's just irritating.

While I think Rosser does his best to write a credibly scientific story, I’d be lying to say that I understood every point. That said, Tipping Point is a freaking fabulous thriller. Despite not getting all of the science, I enjoyed this smart and fast read. Not only is Rosser’s novel a well-written and fun roller coaster ride but it makes you think about global warming is doing in regard to the future of our planet.

Robert Spires, the protagonist of the piece, is investigating the deaths of the murdered climatologists. He’s a little perfect. A little superhero on the run and so 007 that James Bond is looking at him in envy. He’s not perfect. Rosser’s character development leads a reader to the knowledge that this is a person a bit more capable than all of us and oh so entertaining to read. Robert Spire can proudly take his seat with the iconic and flawed alpha males of fiction.

I cannot wait for my father to read Tipping Point and to get his take on the work. The Robert Spire novels currently compose a trilogy with Tipping Point joined by Impact Point: Action-Adventure Thriller and Melt Zone: Action-Adventure Thriller and I plan to pick up the other two books in the series today. If you prefer, the Spire trilogy is available in one volume titled Spire Trilogy: Action-Adventure Thrillers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent thriller ...à dévorer
Reviewed in France on March 26, 2014
