She wasn't supposed to fall in love with her next door neighbor
“Can you hear me?”
Adaline Starling needs a new tenant for the flat above her store, and Callum Hague needs somewhere to live. Adaline is a genius, hiding in a magazine store, she has never opened. She is trying to convince the world that she is whole, that there is nothing wrong with her.
Callum Hague likes to fix things, preferably thousands of miles away from his hometown. He’s returned from a year long project in Nairobi where he has built a school. They both have hidden imperfections that have shaped their lives from childhood. If they were left to their own devices, they would both become reclusive. Their best friends think they would be perfect for each other and set about fixing them up. It takes a serious incident for them to confess their invisible flaws, but will they accept each other’s hidden imperfection? With supporting characters that include a cheeky apprentice and an overbearing charity chairwoman.
Will Adaline turn a deaf ear to everyone’s advice to own her imperfections?

The FL was proudly independent after a crappy childhood, and the ML lacked confidence despite transforming himself after awful school bullying. Somehow they came together and the story is sweet with unexpected characters. However, the reconciliation at the end was completely unbelievable and way yo many details left out, so it ends abruptly and doesn't do justice to the rest of the story. It reads like the author had a word limit and had to scramble a finish.

it is hard to navigate this life when everything is normal but any disability makes it that much harder. Callum and Adeline both have health issues they keep in the background but still find joy in life and with each other.

This is a good romance to read.

    3.5stars.
I enjoyed this book all the way through until the betrayal.
The characters were all so easy to like ( apart from Adaline's parents. )
Callum and Adeline had an instant attraction, Adeline his a hearing problem from almost everyone in her life including callum. Callum had self confidence issues from being an overweight child.
They bonded from both having a hard childhood for completely different reasons, they had so much patience for each other. She asked one thing and one thing only from him, and that was not to give her parents money, so what did he do, yep he went behind her back and did just that.
My annoyance of this was not that he did that it was how easy Adeline forgave him, it went against her character and wasn't explained, it ended without knowing if she kept visiting her parents or if she cut them out her life.
Did Adeline open her store and was it success? I don't know as that was left unanswered also.
It's the unknown parts that didn't get an ending too that drives me mad.
Had there been a conclusion to all the aspects of the story it would have added a star, as well written.

I have just finished reading three very different ARCs back to back. Grace Harper's 'The Stranger's Voice' was an uplifting, romantic, feel good story. It made me experience all the feels and by gosh was it a great story.

Adeline is a vibrant, beautiful, strong, fiercely independent woman who has never let her hearing problems hold her back. Only those closest to her know of her problems. Not because she's embarrassed by it, but because she doesn't see herself any differently from anyone else. She can lip read and can communicate well enough to get by in life.

Callum is a strong, caring, loving guy. He builds schools in poor countries and doesn't see his wealth or status as something that should define who he is.

When the two first met, I was in stitches. That first meeting was so hilarious.
Adeline is Callum's landlady, as he chooses to rent a flat from her.
He's a carpenter and so he can repair the damage done by the previous tenant. He may have the money to go and buy a fancy house with all the mod-cons, but instead he chooses to rent the apartment next door to his extremely attractive next door neighbour.
That's one of the things I like most about him, he's down to earth, genuine and doesn't let his wealth go to his head. He's not some domineering, typical rich guy type.

As the story unfolds, we learn more about Adeline and Callum as separate characters, but also about the developing bond between them. Adeline doesn't trust easily, thanks in no small part to her parents. The two people she should have been able to trust most in her life are nothing but vile excuses for human beings. But regardless of that fact, she's slowly learning to trust Callum. He's a genuinely good guy who seems to care about her. She can't confide about her hearing problems because she is scared he'll run away. But Callum isn't stupid, he picks up on little things, thanks, in part, to his new apprentice Scottie.
Callum has his own problems. There's a skeleton in his own closet that he's not keen on letting anyone discover.

The story was beautifully written and has a definite feel good vibe throughout. There are ups and downs, as in any good love story. The highs make you smile and sigh in happiness and the lows make you feel empathy towards the characters and their issues. I can tell you I shed a tear or two.

It was nice to read a story from the POV of both the main characters as you could get into their heads easily and figure out what was going on.

Grace Harper has written characters to fall in love with. In spite of their difficulties, Adeline and Callum make a world of their own where the only people that matter are them and their closest friends.

In a world where we all have our own worries, it's nice to be transported to another place where you can lose yourself and live the life of the characters. This book certainly had me hook, line and sinker. I lost all track of time while I was reading.

From my point of view as a disabled woman, I can totally see why Adeline is scared to put her heart on the line, only to have it broken by a man because he can't see beyond the label of disability. It's hard when you want so much to be loved, to be in love, but people are more shallow than they'd like to admit and are very easily scared off. They can't cope with everything that comes with your disability. It's my opinion that instead of caring about how YOU deal with someone else's disability, you should first care how THEY deal with it.
    This story proves my point.

This is the first book I have read by Grace Harper but it won't be the last. The way she writes has you falling head first into a world where you don't ever want to leave.

If you haven't yet read 'The Stranger's Voice' then I suggest you get your copy and see for yourself why I loved it so much.

I'm sorry, but this book is like climbing a mountain backwards.
This is a grammatical abomination of note. I don't think a proofreader or editor came anywhere near this book.
I ground my way through the first 8 chapters, then threw in the towel.
Very long. Very drawn out with pages of waffling and getting nowhere with the story. Poor writing style. Careless sentence building.
I returned this for a refund.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative love story

Very interesting story with complex main characters and an excellent array of supporting characters.
Adeline and Callum both went through a lot growing up and are still trying to cope with their pasts.
Neither wants to tell the other about their problems so they try and have a relationship while avoiding their issues. Neither has had a proper relationship before so it's quite fun reading about them trying to work it all out. I really liked Scottie and his very insightful take on everything. The book is very informative about a couple of medical issues readers might not know much about, so not only do you get a good story , you also learn about these. Adeline and Callum are a sweet couple , a perfect match for each other and i enjoyed reading their story.

Reading this book, I was struck by the thought of hidden imperfections - something both of the main characters have and hide for their own, personal reasons - and wondered what I would have done in their positions. That to me is the mark of a good book.

A lot of readers don't want reality in their fiction, they want to escape. Not me. I want to wonder "What if..." - I want to relate to the characters and imagine myself in their shoes.

Adaline and Callum are great leads. They are down to earth with their problems. They both face life head on when they can and when they need to, but both are hiding. It's immediately obvious what Adaline's imperfection is from the start, but Callum's is hidden well and I have to admit, I thought it was something completely different.

As usual, I fell in love with a side character. Scottie, Callum's apprentice, is cheeky, cocky, and far to smart for his own good. I adored him, and would love more about him, but I'm not sure that will happen.

Well worth a read - The Stranger's Voice will have you laughing, cringing, and welling up throughout the entire story!

This book warmed my heart and made me smile. I follow the work of this author and once again she has created a group of characters that I could and would want to know and be friends with in real life.
I was willing the two main characters along the way, but I also enjoyed the supporting characters, especially Scottie. He didn't make a great first impression but then things started to click into place.
Everyone has a past, and insecurities and imperfections and this touched on it all.
Both Adaline and Callum are dealing with present issues as well as trying to overcome the past, but I believed in their strength as individuals as well as their strength together.
