Taking Time (Like a Boss Book 4) Kindle Edition

Elen

The last thing a girl wants when she’s wearing sweatpants and no makeup is to meet the man of her dreams. But that’s exactly what happens when I’m drowning my sorrows in a bar after a break up.

The gorgeous Kane proves to be the perfect gentleman, much to my disappointment and eternal embarrassment after I throw myself at him. He looks after me all night when I pass out from my medication-and-alcohol-induced coma. And in the morning, he’s gone before I wake, leaving me with just his phone number.

I’m not going to call him. I’m too ashamed, and besides, he told me last night that he can’t have children. I know you don’t have to marry the guy on the first date, but is there any point in getting involved with a man when you know there’s no future in it? So I go to work, intending to put the whole disastrous night behind me.

Ha! I should’ve known my life would never be that easy. Guess who’s one of the candidates for the new copywriting job at Hearktech?

From the Inside Flap

After the initial hug in the church, Kane hasn't touched me again. Does he know how much I want him to? I'm sure he does. I think he's doing it on purpose. He knows I'm getting dizzy just from having him next to me. He's on good form tonight. He's funny and witty, and he constantly makes me laugh.

Dear God, I want to get in his boxers more than anything in the world.

Only when it grows late and the band plays the first slow song do I get my hands on him again. Colette, Gaby, Roxie, and I have been dancing all evening, and I'm out of breath and hot when the singer starts the first few lines of George Michael's Kissing a Fool. I feel a hand on my waist, and as I turn, Kane pulls me neatly into his arms, and within seconds we're moving to the music.

"I need a drink," I tell him. "And a rest. I'm puffed out."

"Nope." His hand tightens on mine. "Not now I've finally got you in my arms."

My heart's hammering, but I try to cover it with a sassy glance. "You're not the boss of me," I tell him, lifting my chin.

"Not yet," he murmurs, fixing his gaze on my lips.

They part automatically--ohhh... I want him to kiss me. He doesn't. He just stares at my lips as if he's thinking about sliding his tongue and maybe other things between them, and I give a little whimper. "Don't look at me like that," I whisper.

He just smiles, and carries on.

For the next two hours, every time the band plays a slow song, Kane's there, pulling me into his arms. Outside, the twilight deepens, the stars pop out onto the black velvet sky, and the night grows cool. But inside, the heat between us just intensifies, until I know there's only one way the evening can end.

We make it to eleven p.m. The others are still dancing, and I think the party is probably going to go on for another few hours.

Kane and I are dancing, again. We're so close, we're practically one person. He's spent most of the evening staring into my eyes, and therefore it doesn't surprise me when, as one, we move apart and study each other for a moment. I nod, and we walk back to the table. I retrieve my purse and we grab our jackets.

We pause, and I glance across the dance floor, seeing Seb and Colette wrapped around each other, and Harry and Gaby dancing, and the bride and groom absorbed in each other in the middle, under the flashing lights. Nobody's going to miss me.

He holds out his hand. I place mine in it. And we walk outside.

This is the fourth book in Woods’ series, Like a Boss, about the four directors of a tech firm. In this book, the female director, Elen, has finally broken up with her long-time boyfriend. She goes to a bar and makes the mistake of mixing migraine medicine with alcohol. While there she meets Kane, a sexy and nice guy who charms Elle with his knowledge of trivia. He even refuses to go to bed with her because of the alcohol and medicine she’s consumed. So she’s left with the memory of a nice guy before whom she feels like she really embarrassed herself.

Then, surprise, surprise, it turns out that he’s applying for a copywriting job at her firm. So now she’s his boss. The boss/employee relationship played a role in the first three books in this series, but it seems like no big deal in this book. At first she fears that he cozied up to her in the bar because he wanted the job at her firm. But he denies it and that’s that. Kane fits in well in the firm and makes good friends with the three male directors. Kane has just gone through a painful divorce so both of them are worried that their attraction to each other might just be a rebound thing. Elle’s arrogant ex shows up wanting her back and Kane experiences some jealousy on that front.

Since this story is so short, there isn’t much depth to these possible plot points. The leads are attracted to each other and don’t really face many complications once they start sexy times together. The book is a fast read like the others in the series, but lacks some depth of character and plot that just isn’t possible with such a short read.

I received a free advance copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Part of a series but a standalone read with a HEA. I LOVED it. Elen, the last of the owners of an IT company meets the love of her life. You have to like Elen. She is smart, strong, independent and very much a female. I really liked her in this book. In previous books we just got a little bi of her personality. Kane is the hero and he is a great guy. He is a bit different from most heroes. He is sensitive, loving, kind, etc. You can't help but love this guy and boy is this guy a great lover!

Elen has broken off her relationship with Dan. She has spent several years with him and she realizes that it is not what she wants from life. it is still hard on her probably more out of habit than deep love for him. She is not her best self when she is with him. So, to ease the pain she goes to a bar and decides to drink until she can't feel the pain any longer. Kane happens to be in the bar at the same time. He sits next to her and hears her story. He really, really wants her but he wouldn't dream of acting on it with her being in the state she is in.

He does take her home after she passes out at the bar and puts her to bed. the next morning when she wakes up he is gone but he left a note for her. She gets up and starts to move. She has an appointment at work in just a few minutes. She has to be there because they are interviewing for a new member of the staff. Guess where this is going.

It is a fun and entertaining read. I really enjoyed it and loved all these characters. Couples from previous books are mentioned and brought up to date. A good read and I definitely recommend it. A good lesson as well. If you are not your best self in a relationship, then you should do something about it rather than stay in it and not reach your full potential.

I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 6/16/17

As usual, all of Serenity's books are amazing. She has such a way with words and story telling. Blending in a tiny bit of other stories that if you know of them then you know.

This was a really good conclusion to the series. It was novel-length but it felt really complete, and there was a nice epilogue that showed how all four couples from the series were doing. This book took me between 1.5 and 2 hours to read, so it was not too short.

Elen and Kane are very likable. They are respectful to each other and are so sweet together. The later part of the book was very sweet. The love scenes were hot while still being searingly intimate and respectful, but readers who hate swearing should probably stay away. I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 because it did not affect my emotions as much as Book 3, "Taking Liberties", but some people will probably like this one better.

This "Like a Boss" series is a combination of New Adult and Serenity Woods' usual style of heartfelt and sexy contemporary romance. Like New Adult books, the novellas in this series are told from the first person present perspective alternating between the two primary characters. Also, there is some swearing, including the F-word. I don't think that the swearing is excessive. Also like New Adult books, the main characters are in their 20s. However, I like this series much more than most New Adult books because of Serenity Woods' good guy characters and very romantic elements. The characters are both good people who are not control freaks. One character is rich, but it has not swelled his/her head with power and arrogance. The story has two really likable people meeting, having sex, and then developing true feelings for each other and really getting to know one another. I love how the author writes. She has some of the most romantic declarations of love that I have ever read in this series.

I received a free advanced reading copy from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

When you break up with someone after a long time together,it is very traumatic. When two such people do it at the same time and meet and confess how it happened and why,it becomes a new relationship.

Sometimes you like to get caught up in the middle of a gripping story which takes you days to read but other times you just want a quick fix! This series, while short, covered it all for me personally. I really liked the characters and the interwoven storylines. I have always been a fan of Serenity and this series doesn't disappoint!

Ellen is the last of the partners still single after her relationship with Dan ended.
Drowning her sorrows in a bar, she meets Kane whose divorce came through that day and she expects never to see him again after that night.

However, the next round of interviews brings Kane to the company, this book will take you through their journey .

Last in the series and I really enjoyed it, plus it was the last man or should I say woman standing. Enjoyed the epilogue which tied all the catchups for the other stories.

Lin and Kane’s story was the perfect ending to this series for me. They were both hurting when they met but they heal each other. Couldn’t stop reading and thought the ending was brilliant with an update on all the characters.
