- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2017Wow this book from the beginning I was in tears! Libby lost her bestfriend in a horrible accident. Her parents think it's a good idea for her to go visit her aunt and uncle in Texas to get her out of her funk! Than she meets mason will he be the one to get her out of her comfort zone! When a ex comes back in masons life will Libby go back home? This book was amazing I loved reading it!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2017I really enjoyed this debut book. Libby has been struggling since losing her best friend in a tragic accident. She's wracked with guilt and she's kinda just going through the motions when it comes to living. Desperate and fed up of seeing a shell of their daughter, Libby's parents bring up the option of Libby going to stay with relatives in Texas.
I liked Libby. Her pain and guilt really come across and I couldn't help but sympathise with her. Finding her feet in Texas, she's starting to feel more like the old Libby. Of course sexy cowboy Mason helps put a smile on her face and he helps her start to heal.
Mason has a past. He's got a mystery about him. There's a determination in the way he cares for and helps Libby and he's really easy to like. The chemistry between him and Libby is instant and I was desperate for them both to move forward with their lives.
The secondary characters are also really likeable especially Libby's cousin Savannah. I'm already desperate for her story. This book has a little bit of everything and it flows really well. Definitely recommend this especially if you're looking for a no drama romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2018There are so many facets to this book - humor, sadness, sorrow, laughter and excitement. A totally good, enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2021Taking Chances by Laura Farr is the first book in the Healing Hearts series. The story had great moments - sweet, sexy, suspenseful, and fun. The characters are interesting and made me care about them and their future. We hear the story through Libby's point of view. I have to say that there is a definite part where I wanted to smack Libby for being a dumb@$$. I hate those big misunderstanding moments. I mean yes, it gives the reader the angst and drama but I just feel books so the emotion really got to me. But that's also I sign of a good book, making you feel, right?! I definitely have to read the rest of the series now.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2018The story is there and I liked it. I had to push passed what was a lot of grammatical or spelling issues. It happened enough to bither, but not enough to stop reading the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2017I enjoyed the book immensely. Being from Oklahoma and spending so much time in Texas and with Texans is the only reason this gets a four stars rather than five. Well written and a lovely read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2017I really loved Taking chances it drew me in from the start and what a sad start it was my heart broke for Libby and the tragic thing she went through and then having survivors guilt . This would be my first Laura Farr book and I'm excited to whats to come especially the healing hearts series . Right when Libby and Mason cross paths it becomes electric and they can't get the other out of their minds , they both have been through something tragic but in the end heal one another . Libby is a great heroine she was funny , smart , beautiful inside and out . Mason is one yummy cowboy he respects the heroine , hard worker , and has a since of humor . They made a really good couple the steamy scene will get you hot all over , there is drama but it resolves pretty quickly . Not shore how I feel about the next couples book but will be reading .

- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2017Laura Farr is new to the writing scene and this is her debut book! It was a truly romantic story with a huge side of some hot cowboys added in. This story shows how two people who are both dealing with things that have shaped them into the people the are. It's about finding yourself and learning to live again!
Libby has recently lost someone close to her. She has emotional and mentally checked out. Before everything, she lived life as a college student in England, where she also grew up.
Mason has had a rough couple of months and is trying to prove himself. He works on a farm helping out wherever he can. Mason is the very definition of a southern gentleman and an extremely hot cowboy.
Libby is offered a chance to get away from everything that has haunted day and night and go stay with her Aunt Claire and Uncle Ryan in the United States. At first, she's hesitant, but she accepts. Once she arrives, she sees her family and gets a tour of the farm she hasn't seen in four years. Her cousin, Savannah invited her to come out and go dancing. While they are out, she meets Mason. Libby is immediately attracted to him and him to her. Mason wants Libby to be his. Libby is scared because of the fear of having her heart broken again.
Can Mason win Libby's heart? Do Libby and Mason open up about their pasts? Will Libby learn to live again?
This book was a great pick me up read! I loved Libby and Mason. I hope there is more to come from Laura. Because I would love to read more about the other characters in this story, especially Savannah and Josh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Debut
I first knew of Laura through the Four Brits Book Fest signing group and when I knew she had written her own book I was keen to see what it was like. As I have self-published myself I am always keen to help other authors if I can, as publishing a book can be very daunting.
For a debut novel, this book is amazing! The writing is great and the storyline pulls you right in and keeps you reading till the very last page. The characters are well developed and believable and you actually feel as if you know them personally and are in the story watching everything unfold.
Libby has had a tough time when she leaves her home to stay with her Aunt in Texas, but she needs to get away to help re-find herself and to let other people in, who she did in the form of sexy ranch hand Mason!
My only issue I had was the attitude of Libby's parents, who seemed way too happy to give their blessing to Libby being in love with Mason after two weeks. Being a parent myself and knowing how my own parents were with me, this just seemed too unrealistic from my personal experiences, but this may just be my issue.
I'm really excited to see what Laura comes up with next and wish her all the luck in the word as publishing is so hard!
This really was a fab, easy going read! Definitely, recommend that you grab a drink and snuggle down with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put it Down!!!!!!
What a fabulous book from our friend and first time author Laura Farr!! She gives the reader romance, intrigue, drama, tears of sadness and tears of joy! Her descriptions transport you to the scene and make you really care about what happens to the characters. I'm so proud of what Laura has achieved with this book and can't wait to hear what happens next to these wonderful characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 5* must read
Oh my word! I would never have thought in a million years that this was the debut book by this author. I have absolutely loved reading each and every page and what a page turner this story is. I devoured the book in one day!! I love a book that has all the feels and this one certainly did. I've laughed, I've cried, I've swooned and I've felt angst... this book has it all! The characters are amazing....and I'm really hoping that we have more books to make a series telling the supporting characters stories, but this book was about Mason and Libby and their roller coaster of a journey trying to build a relationship together. Do they succeed? You will have to read the book yourself to find out but I promise you that you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I just love me a cowboy and it looks like Texas is ...
What a fabulous debut book! Laura is going far (lol) if this book is anything to go by.
I have lived in Libby's life over night. I just love me a cowboy and it looks like Texas is the place to find one! It's easy to be sucked it to the emotions Libby is having after losing her best friend. The trip to her Aunts ranch is just what she needed and the love she finds is just swoonworthy.
Made me cry... quite a bit.
I did also feel a little bit stabby/murdery.... You need to read this to find out why...
Can't wait for the next book!
Well done Laura. Definitely an author to add to the list
