    I was dabbling in poetry when I started this books. It’s not a genre that I thought id enjoy or event relate to but A. Ikram has done it with Tears in the Shadows. This took me longer to read than most because of all the raw emotions it made me feel. I as being the eldest could relate to every single poem in this book. A. Ikram thank you for giving me words to put to some of my emotions.

    Some of my favorite quotes that hit me right in the heart are

    “For years I wasted holding onto people. Who brought me tears,”
    “I stayed silence when Chaos broke”
    “I’m yearning for someone to tell me “It wasn’t your fault”

    Those broke me not gonna lie. If you are wanting an eye opener of a book into raw emotions about internal demons I highly recommend this book. I’m speechless now

    This book is a collection of words and photography that gives us a snapshot of moments and raw emotions in the author’s life. It reads like a journal, which is important to point out that the material may be triggering to some.

    I think my favorite part of this book is the reminder of how incredible it is that no matter the culture, no matter the individual things we go through, we can still relate to works of art like this one. That is the beauty of being human, that even when something may be traumatic, sad or happy, it is all of this what connects us. It is this what we relate to.

    Within the collection the eldest sibling experience is what resonated the most with me.

    I’ve always been drawn to poetry and the realness and rawness of people’s stories. This poetry collection by Ikram drew up a lot of those deep/core feelings out and wowwww. It’s always fascinating how something one experiences can feel so deeply personal, and for Ikram to be able to articulate in a way that resonates with the readers is truly a gift. this collection of poems really pulled at my heart strings and I am so glad I read it! It is available on KU now - check it out!
