In 1969 at the age of 17, Tom left his native Glasgow to join the British Army. Tom’s military career spanned from 1969 to 1992. He followed this with a career in Retail Management, in which he was employed from 1992 to 2012.

Tom has been writing since 2007.

He has published novels, anthologies of short stories, a five-part novel, a variety of erotica books, and a series of genre-based poetry.

Tom is presently working on more novels.

    This is a well-written collection of short stories in a variety of genres. Everyone is sure to find something they like. Short stories are great when you just have a small amount of time to get some reading in and this one is very entertaining. Definitely tempted me to read more from this author.

    I find short stories a good way to relax at the end of the day. Feet up, glass of wine, box of chocolates, and my Kindle. Temptation has an enormous advantage over most other collections; there are so many genres included, all mixed up, so you never know what treat the evening holds in store. My favourite was Blood Brothers, but Tom Benson is an incredibly versatile writer capable of hooking readers into almost anything. Succumb to temptation and buy; it comes highly recommended by a very picky reader.

    This is a book of excellent short stories in a variety of genre. My favourite one was, Bewitched, which reminds us of how women were persecuted as witches in the past, but this is no old hag. The question is what will her persecutors do and will she find an escape?
    All the stories are good, as you would expect from this author. This book is well worth a read. Highly recommended.

    This genre-defying collection of stories by Tom Benson contains some of his best. The title is a nebulous link to some, but is more obviously so in others. Evident among them are themes I have come to associate with this author’s work – loyalty, honour, passion, and dangerous (and occasionally bloodcurdling) missions. From the title story, in which Dave gets his deserved comeuppance, through the creepiness of ‘A Grave Mistake’, the shocking elements in ‘A Day of Reckoning’, and the profound mystical allure of ‘Bewitched’, these stories had me captivated. The character Emma in ‘Poisoned Ivy’ is the Amazonian prototype for other Tom Benson feisty heroines, and her story is the kind of narrative he writes so well, while ‘One Good Turn’ had me breathless all the way through to the denouement. I think perhaps ‘The Reunion’ was my favourite, and even though I guessed the ending I enjoyed how the story unfolded. Tom Benson’s stories are clever and sometimes unexpectedly wise, and one I suspect all aficionados of Star Trek will love as much as I did is ‘To Go Boldly’, which provoked goose bumps at the end (in a good way.) There are also a number of bonus stories at the end, my favourite among them (and one I had read previously in Smoke and Mirrors, an earlier collection,) is ‘Debt of Honour’ – a historical tale that is truly one of his finest. If you have never read any of this author’s stories before, start right here… ‘Temptation’ will delight you in its broad scope, and give you a taste of what to expect in his other books.
