Phil can’t deny his attraction to River, but dating is out of the question. Phil only does one kind of relationship -- domestic servitude, where he gives the orders and his partner obeys. To his surprise, River agrees -- not because he likes the idea, but because anything’s better than being alone.
They know the arrangement won’t last. Phil’s set in his ways and incapable of showing affection outside the bedroom. River’s unused to obedience and still in love with his ex. But their time together will change them, making them question everything they thought they knew about love, control, and relationships. When the unexpected threatens to tear them apart, they’ll have to choose between the comforts of the past and a future they can only find together.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2019Don't judge a book by it's previous series piece. In my case - I LOVED the first book in the series, but sadly, this wasn't as good at all.
River and Phil were awesome characters and I loved their connection, their everyday things.
I loved reading about the hospital things, but sometimes it was really too much. But after a while it was like they weren't working at all so i'm a bit confused here!
I wanted to read about domestic servitude so much, but this wasn't what i was hoping for. It wasn't bdsm and dark at all. It was so light and so vanilla. Something was missing from Phil's character. He wasn't DOM at all. I loved him, don't get me wrong, but I need more from a character like him.
And that word - Teacher - lol, am I the only one who doesn't liked it? Give me Master, Sir, Daddy- anything but teacher. It wasn't hot and erotic at all.
The erotic scenes were amazing, especially the poker nights! Awwww! River was perfect.
I really loved the relationship between River and Phil and I loved the change in them too. Phil's change was the best and this was the only thing worth in this book. The love and light d/s between them was super hot. Loved the book but I missed something, something more about domestic servitude.
And River at the end when he still didn't know who he wants to be with forever... that was the deepest shit in this book. If that wasn't there, it would be almost a perfect story.
But again, back to Phil, at the end he was soooo perfect and so beautiful! That was the best scene ever! When he cried.♥
Some scenes were over written too, and the book was really long - at times I was bored to death. But mostly loved it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2020A great read of romance between two complicated characters. Their love story is a journey to discover who they are emotionally, what happiness really mean to themselves and to each other. This journey is one full of self doubt, struggles, failures desperation. But in the end, it is so worth everything they both have committed to each other. Love is so powerful. It is not an easy read. The author has portrayed such complex characters and how they develop and evolve to the end. I love this series and read the first two books and are fond of the characters, their friendship and the support of each other. I am on to the next two books.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2020With the mixed reviews and my pickiness at kink books I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this or not.
The kink was on point, not unrealistic or giving kink the wrong image as so many books do.
The relationship was very interesting and the storyline, while some things were easily anticipated, the larger story was great and how it all came together.
A few minor grammar errors at times, probably could have used another editing proof but not so often that it distracted me over much.
The intimate scenes were hot, with out being over the top, and fairly true to a RL link scene, least with the scenes I've watched at the events I've gone to.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2019It was really hard for me to get through this book. I have never read any of the author's other books besides this one, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I didn't know what to expect. And I certainly didn't expect this.
At first I wasn't sure how everything was going to play out. The beginning made me cringe, I thought River would be hung up on his cheating ex through the whole story (and I wasn't entirely wrong). Then his first attempts with Phil - yeah, I still wasn't sure. And then suddenly there was the depth and emotion I was looking for and it made up for the previous struggles. I got a full on emotional rollercoaster. My heart was literally breaking in the end though- I didn't know if I was going to get my imagined happy ending.
There were parts in the story that I didn't specifically like or agree with- but they made the plot flowing so I can't complain too much.
I can definitely say I will be buying other books from the author.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2020River, an ER doctor chews out the hospital pharmacist, Phil for not filling a prescription he had ordered. Phil had refused because it was the wrong medicine thereby saving the patient. River apologizes sincerely and Phil asks him why he is still wearing his wedding band when everyone in the hospital knows River"a husband left him four months ago for a surgeon. River is so lost he doesn't know how to cope. Phil makes a few suggestions telling him about gay dating apps which River gets and ends up at Phil's house. It seems that Phil is a man who must always be in control when it comes to sex and won't accept anything less than domestic servitude. After he explains what he expects from River which is totally new to him he agrees to give it a try because he is so miserable and hates being alone. So begins a story of a unique lifestyle, good friends, crimes at the hospital, extended families with needs, and blossoming love when the cheating husband comes back. We get our hea but it is hard fought with much angst. A very well written and most satisfying book.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have to read this book
The second of the Heretic Doms books is even better than the first, if that’s possible. River and Phil are both great characters with interesting personalities and histories that you uncover through the book which just add to the understanding and depth of who they are. The other HDs are here in full force, Gray intense, Charlie comforting, Warren a warm giant with troubled sub Taylor. Terrence, River’s husband, is eminently hateable and I love the snippets of Pops and Clarise, Phil and River’s (respective) closest family. The relationship development is beautiful, the hiccups towards the end frustrating in the way that they can only be when you’re so invested in a couple you want to shake sense into them. The sex is a bit kinky but mainly just gorgeous. Must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5
The only reason why I don't give 5 stars is because of the many wrong words. It's like this book was written with auto correct and not proofread afterwards. All the time there are words mixed up like move instead of more, their instead of there, every instead of ever and so on.
Otherwise I loved this book. At first Phil's and River's relationship seemed odd but there was so much growth of both relationship and characters. I loved the last chapter, it really made me cry a little.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous new series, Highly recommended.
Marie Sexton has hit it outta the park again with this newest series The Heretic Dom Club. Book 2 sees us get up close and personal with Phil and River.
Phil is a hardworking pharmacist, we met him in book one, as we all know he has been besties with Warren for years. Those that read book 1 ( if you didn't you really need to it gives us all the who's who in the zoo) will know that Warren ended up with Taylor, after Phil ended his casual relationship with the younger man. As closed off as he is, Phil doesn't do emotions, only hook-ups or casual relationships as long as his subs obey. He's completely into domestic servitude and widely accepts he is emotionally impotent.
River, terrific doctor and recently split from his cheating husband of 11 yrs, he's reeling in emotional pain and sorrow and a lot of self-doubt. His depression / angst spills over into his work life and he gets into a heated argument with Phil, the pharmacist at the hospital after a drug order goes wrong. After receiving a good dressing down from Phil, River takes his advice to start hooking-up casually, to help him get back on the dating horse, after years of monogamy. River downloads a hook-up app, and when he trolls through whose available, he notices that Phil is available to play. Phil doesn't just want anyone, he wants someone who will obey. Intrigued and lulled into a safety net because he knows Phil from work, River makes contact.
The two men hook up, Phil knows River is still in love with his husband and believes wholeheartedly that River will get sick of domestic servitude just like every other guy Phil ends up with. Both men treat their 1st encounter as merely a means to an end not expecting them both to come away getting more than they bargained for. Chemistry aside Phil is surprised at how well River takes to doing what he's told. River cant believe he enjoys just obeying.
This instalment, was a fair bit angsty, with both men bringing a lotta baggage to the table. River in the form of his failed marriage and Phil in the form of his emotional distance a hangover from his troubled childhood. Sexton does well to bring our men together where they work their crap out while exploring River's new submissive direction under the guise of full obedience.
This series is smoking hot and really well developed, with a different kink to focus on after the heavy hand that was Warren and Taylor's dynamic. For those that are familiar with Sexton's writing you know your going to get characters who are multilayered with great back stories. There's 2 more men to go in the Club, Charlie and Gray and I simply cannot wait. Highly recommended. I need book 3 stat!!
Can be read as a standalone though for best enjoyment book one should ideally be read first.
Triggers: historical drug use and mention of alcohol abuse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but different
I often enjoy a book which introduces a character to BDSM elements as it can provide details and aspects otherwise overlooked when the characters have an understanding of the dynamics already. This story has some very fascinating quirks I’ve not seen in any other book – the honorific ‘teacher’ for one, the limited emotional attachment when establishing the connection and the specific domestic discipline arrangement is unlike any other I have come across. It’s certainly a slow burn emotionally but the sexual elements are hot right off the bat. A really interesting read and John Solo does a wonderful job with the narration, bringing some subtlety through each of the main and secondary characters that helped add another layer to the story.
