4.3 out of 5 stars 810 ratings

Fighting a hatred born of unbearable grief, Chloe Lott detests the Blackbird family for their role in her brother’s death. When Dell Blackbird, the newly promoted Alpha of the Blackbird pack, dares to show his face at her brother’s funeral, Chloe is livid. Nothing, including Dell’s massive, powerful body will convince Chloe to betray her family’s honor. In danger of losing her heart to her sworn enemy, she begs Dell to stay away when she knows her resistance begins to falter.

Dell is inexplicably drawn to Chloe. Obsessed, he struggles to get her to see past her animosity. He knows he should do as she’s asked and leave her be; however, his wolf within has claimed her as his mate and refuses to live without her. Nothing will stop Dell from claiming Chloe, not even her reluctance to be his mate.

I actually read this book second in the series so my mind could have already been made up about it. In honesty though I love the characters. it's easy to empathize with them. For me a book is not worth reading unless the author gets some kind of emotional response from the readers. this author is humorous at times and finds a way to make you feel for the characters. love her books

Honestly, when I started this novel I thought it would be a short introduction to the next book in the series. Don't make my mistake.

Yes, it was pretty slow getting started, yes, I almost lost interest before the interesting parts started, BUT I stuck to it and wow! This was a blazing hot story where love blossomed from the burning hot ashes of hate ignited by a tragic event we may not see every day in the real world but so many like it rob us daily.

I realize that in the real world this mate thing isn't real, (sometimes it might be easier) but the divorce rate here in the USA says something wet falls on that loving spark, causing people who spend an average of $26K on a one day celebration to hire a $400/hour snake to help you get your beatles vinyles and your share of the lake cabin on paper. But how many of us have seen beautiful, bright, young lived end or go irrepairably wrong with drugs, low self esteem, suicide, abuse, alcohol, and so much more. If it is a close family member picking the family up afterwards is such a challenge.

Anyway, in this story a marriage is crushed by a mating and death follows. The survivors are bereft. Out of the grief the two families are struggling with the new alpha finds his mate and he must reveal himself to her slowly and carefully so that she doesn't bolt and kill both of them. He makes a few mistakes along the way, but he tries to make it right.

I enjoyed watching him try. It was a well written story with good dialogue, great description, no huge secrets, no overly long slow parts, and lots of romance. If you like this one, check out Territory.

Chloe was a little wishy washy. One minute she wants Dell the next she doesn't. Hoping the next ones get better.

This prequel was an amazing story and it took grabbed me from page one and never let me put it down as it wized me into a time and place that made my heart pound and my panties wet.

I absolutely loved the combination of Dell Blackbird and Chloe and the conflict of the death of her brother and her sister-in-law and Dell's brother all in the name of the mating call. The Blackbirds are Skin walkers who mate for life and once they have laid eyes on that mate the are over top, out of control and faced with self destruction without their mate. It's a fascinating concept and it one that I really have enjoyed reading about.

It's a fast moving, hot, sometimes overwhelmingly sweet and over the top with grief and regret. I can't imagine you would like this one.

This book starts with a a devastating tragedy, one that you just can’t see the characters overcoming. But somehow this author not only manages to bring her characters through, but she built this entire little community with people that I hope we see in future works. She kept the book moving and her characters have a depth that made me need to see them find their HEA. I hope her next book is just as exciting, I’m looking forward to reading it.

This author really know how to keep you on the edge of your seat, with a great Alpha, mate, and story line, and when done, you feel good.. I love this author! I love the way she develops her characters. I loved Dell & Chloe together. Every time I thought they'd make headway something comes up to push them apart and it usually their own prejudices. The loving is steamy and well worth the wait. The side characters are not afterthoughts and are written smartly. I will continue to read this author.
