That Was Yesterday (The Yesterday Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 435 ratings

One call. That’s all it took to change everything. The sweet voice on the other end of the line delivered a blow I never saw coming. Fighting for our country’s freedom and staring death in the eye was nothing compared to this news.

History has one hell of a way repeating itself. Kate Wilson’s voice didn’t waver once as she turned my worst nightmare into a reality, and her words weaved a cruel poetic justice.

I hadn’t been back home in over two years. Once I pulled into the one-horse town, I was greeted by the gorgeous blonde.

Kate extended her hand and offered me a warm smile. The connection was made. The innocent beauty has no idea that she just flipped my life upside down.

She’d unearthed secrets that can never be buried.

    That Was Yesterday
    The Yesterday Series, Book 2
    By: HJ Bellus
Narrated by: Heather Edwards, Mark Whalbeck

This is a great, heartfelt story, it grabbed my attention and my heart and captivated both from start to end. This is Max and Kate’s story, Max was introduced in the 1st book in the series “Yesterday is Gone”. He was a good kid who came from a terrible home situation. His life improved when Jessie and Jules took him in. Max is an adult now and after catching his girlfriend with drugs and then cheating on him he decides to enlist to serve the country and leaves the small town behind. Five years later he receives a call that will change his life forever. Kate is a new teacher in town, she is kind hearted, looks out for her students and goes above and beyond to help them. I loved how caring she is and how awesome she was with Finn. I thought she and Max were great together and for each other. The author takes you in to the past giving you glimpses of what Max had to endure in his childhood, it is just heartbreaking. And I love how the author shows just one act of kindness can make all the difference, in Max’s life it started with Papa Jack, then Jessie and it is what Kate did for Finn. I highly recommend this book, it contains topics that are realistic and very moving, there is also drama, angst, twists and some suspenseful moments that will take you to the edge of your seat. It was nice to see the characters from the 1st book too. HJ Bellus, thank you for another great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

I listened to the Audible edition, Heather Edwards & Mark Whalbeck did a great job narrating and performing the voices of all the characters. They brought the characters to life, gave each their own voice and personality. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THIS BOOK! It was a perfect addition to Yesterday is Gone. It was so great getting to know sweet, sweet Max better. At times I was crying my heart breaking for Max. Ally turned out to be hell on wheels. She crushed him. When he finds out about a secret that Abby kept from him it rocks his world, especially the way he finds out about it. Jules and Jessie's brood has grown alittle more. Emma is a force to be reckoned with, I Love her character she is a powerhouse but knows when to dial it down. Finn is so adorable. What a sweetheart. His life was so heartbreaking and SO much like Max it was so sad it had me crying again. Lol. I loved every minute of it. When Kate comes into the picture she's like a breath of fresh air. She has the ability to immediately make people feel at ease. Finn absolutely loved her and as his teacher she has his best interests at heart. She sees the difference between Finn and her other students and she helps him in anyway she can. When she and Max first meet Max is kind of a dick however the more he gets to know her he knows she special but he's afraid to open his heart again after Ally. It was kind of a bummer that Whit and Jack's characters had grown so much between the first book and this one but it was still nice for them along I be included. Poor Cody, he seems to have lost his way. I'm just curious to find out what's up with him. I highly recommend this series to everyone.

Please don't hate me but I wasn't the happiest with Ally (Max's ex-girlfriend) getting pregnant. It just didn't feel right. But then we wouldn't have Finn (Max and Ally's son). I fell in love with him immediately. He was the sweetest little boy. I couldn't have ask for a better character. Just thinking of him warms my heart and soul. He is a significant part of the story and one that brightens you. I think he's got some underlying issues but it doesn't matter, he's perfect.

I was so glad to hear from Jessie, Jules and Whit (Yesterday Is Gone). I loved them. Oh and Jack too. Even though he kinda stayed behind the scenes. Emma (Jessie and Jules's 2nd daughter) sorta stole the show. The antics between Emma and Finn were hilarious and i loved their relationship. Even though they are technically aunt and nephew. They acted more like siblings. They were close in age.

I really liked this story. It was heartwarming and sincere. I liked Max and Kate together. They had a beautiful relationship and it made me smile. I'm glad there was no drama or extreme turmoil. It was written extremely well and I loved the premise of the story. I'm saddened that all the evil Max had to endure when he was younger. I am so glad he met Papa Jack (Yesterday Is Gone). I honestly think he saved Max. I'd highly recommend this book. I thought it was really sweet and I felt the love written into it.

Max had endured a childhood that no one should have to. It wasn’t until he was in high school that he learnt what the love and support of family was when he was taken in by his high school coach Jessie and his wife Jules. He went on to pursue a college football career but felt unfulfilled so he joined the military never expecting what he left behind.

Kate is a kindergarten teacher who would do anything for her students. One student in particular has stolen her heart and she can’t let his home situation continue so she contacts Max even if it means losing the job she loves.

This is an emotional story about love, family and new beginnings. There was no denying the connection between Max and Kate but if they are to have a future together they must first deal with the past.

As might have been easy to guess, nothing is going to be easy, with the story about Max, but the problems that come out are so many! Nicely optimistic, with two epilogues
