Thayer: The Brinnswick Chronicles I Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 895 ratings

Our world is slowly healing after surviving a horrific war. The magical and non-magical creatures of Brinnswick have pulled together to mend the world, but the man I think—really, I know—is my viramore, my soulmate, has somehow been left behind.

I felt drawn to him as soon as I met him, and I wanted to explore what we were to each other, but I never got the chance. Two of my brothers and I were whisked away to the land of the fae for three years in order to save our realm. But now I’m back, and I want to pick up where we left off, only it’s not that easy.

Toby is still heartbroken over what’s happened, and it seems his past is out to get him when bodies drained of blood start appearing all over Brinnswick. As we follow leads, I need to regain his trust and help heal his broken heart… and just maybe he’ll help heal mine as well.

Thayer is the first book in The Brinnswick Chronicles and takes place in the same world as The Ellwood Chronicles, but can be read as a standalone novel. It contains explicit material and is intended for mature adults 18 years old and older.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.

She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

A wonderfully emotional story that was heartfelt. I loved the characters and I felt like I was right there with them in the story feeling every up and down with them. There was a bit of everything in here; angst, steam, smiles, laughs, suspense, action, drama… all in all a well rounded story that captured my attention from the start.

This is a five star story that was hurt by poor editing. For example, mid-way through the book, Kiki (Jorah’s Bonded) is described as a Phoenix. I was immediately confused because I could have sworn she was described as a Giant Eagle (emphasis on the word giant) in a previous book. But then, when she’s described again before the end of this book, she’s back to being an eagle. So the whole phoenix thing was a continuity error.
I don’t recall spelling mistakes, but there were errors in grammar throughout the book, such as wrong word or missing word.
This is just so sad. I hate seeing a quality story dragged down by poor presentation.

On the positive side, there was good balance between the characters. Each one was hurt and hurting each other, but they worked their way through it step-by-step until they could established proper trust. Toby’s trauma was respected. He was never dismissed or scoffed at. No one told him to get over it. It was acknowledged that Thayer did not have an easy time either. He only appeared to come through their separation with more ease because he had less emotional baggage and was a more naturally optimistic person. It still wasn’t a cake walk.
The process of finding understanding and forgiveness between them was well-written, following a natural flow that was believable and relatable.

This is an amazing start to a spin-off of an amazing series! (If you haven’t read the Ellwood Chronicles, get on it!)

Thayer and Toby are a perfect fit. They have to work at it though, because knowing you’re made for each other doesn’t mean it’s all perfect. Tony has some internal battles to fight from past experience, plus they have some external battles to fight too. It’s not high heat, but it’s perfectly emotional and so loving. Nicely balanced.

It’s got all the characters we know and love from the chronicles as well as the wonderful magical aspects and world building this author is great at. I’m excited to see this world continue and will be looking forward to what’s next.

This was an amazing story featuring Thayer and Toby. All of the Ellwoods were present and we get to learn more about the power of three and the faela lands. A great addition to the series! Highly recommended

I was so excited for Thayer and Toby’s story after meeting them in the Ellwood Chronicles. Toby has such a sad story, so it was wonderywat Hong him learn to trust his new family and Thayer. I loved getting to know Thayer and his brothers after their return from the Fae realm. Thayer and Toby are so sweet together. Watching them struggle through heartbreak and trauma (like Michele makes all her lead characters) was so sad, but they came through stronger together. Can’t wait for more from all of these great characters!

Seems like all the pairings in these series revolve around the hurt/comfort tripe. And speaking of series, you have to read the Elwood Chronicles books first. I know it says this series can standalone, but no. You definitely need to read Elwood first. Everything in this book is connected to what’s happened before and it takes place right after the final book in Elwood (but before the Elwood Kids book, so skip that until the end).

I love Tobias. Poor guy has been through so much and is so sweet and lonely. We really knew nothing about Thayer before this book. His name was mentioned several times in the Ellwood Chronicles series, but not nearly as much or as detailed as Basil and Jorah.

This is an interesting addition to Ellwood - I might even like it better. The cons: there are more typos here than the previous books. It suffers from the same repetitiveness that the entire Ellwood series does. It also suffers from the same inconsistencies. How strong the magic is and who can be beat with it is always changing, the distance things are, and some of the times set up in this land are sometimes forgotten about. So the writing could definitely be more polished and consistent, but those things are easy to ignore and don’t take from the story too much.

Just like Ellwood, there is plenty of kissing and romantic thoughts, not a lot of sex. We’re mostly focused on the supernatural story. And most of this book is related to Tony’s last as opposed to a new big bad, but we get some clues that something will be introduced.

Just a reminder, DO NOT READ the Ellwood Kids installment from the end of the Ellwood Chronicles. That is more like an Epilogue, but after the events of this series and it will spoil things for you from this series.

Poor Ailin and Seb, they're going to have gray hair before their time. First the Ellwood Chronicles and now the Brinnswick Chronicles. The kids are just growing up too fast. The magic gets stronger and more powerful. Things jus get more interesting as the days go by. I can't wait for the next book. The humor is there as well as the angsty storyline. Well worth the read.

This has been my least favorite so far. Thayer came off kind of selfish to me in this one and didn't treat his family very respectfully.

A great start to this spin off series. Loved it. Thayer and his brothers return after three years away in Faela. He has his work cut out getting Toby to trust him again. Everybody always leaves him. Toby's past comes rushing back . Fantasy at its best with mythical creatures, witches, vampires etc. Mystery, suspense and a great plot. Looking forward to next book.
